Mark 1:14–28

Ministry in Galilee

14 After y John was arrested, z Jesus went to Galilee, a preaching b the good news c d e of God: f g 15 “The time h is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God i has come j near. k Repent l and believe m in the good news!”

The First Disciples

16 As n He was passing along by the Sea of Galilee, o He saw Simon p and Andrew, q Simon’s brother. They were casting a net into the sea, r since they were fishermen.

17 “Follow Me,” s Jesus told them, “and I will make you fish for t u people!” v 18 Immediately they left their nets and followed w Him. x 19 Going on a little farther, He saw James y the son of Zebedee z and his brother John. a They were in their boat mending their nets. 20 Immediately He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed Him. b

Driving Out an Unclean Spirit

21 Then c they went into Capernaum, d and right away He entered the * synagogue e on the Sabbath f and began to teach. g 22 They were astonished h at His teaching i because, unlike the * scribes, j He was teaching them as one having authority.

23 Just then a man with an * unclean k spirit l was in their synagogue. m He cried out, n 24 “What do You have to do with us, o Jesus—Nazarene? p Have You come to destroy q us? I know who You are—the Holy r One of God!” s

25 But Jesus rebuked t him and said, “Be quiet, u v and come out of him!” 26 And the unclean spirit convulsed him, w shouted with a loud voice, and came out of him.

27 Then they were all amazed, x so they began to argue y with one another, saying, “What is this? A new teaching z with authority! a b He commands even the unclean c spirits, d and they obey Him.” 28 News about Him then spread throughout the entire vicinity of Galilee. e
