The Future of Bible Study Is Here.
John 5:31–6:14
31 “If I testify about Myself, My testimony is not valid. y 32 There is Another who testifies about Me, and I know that the testimony He gives about Me is valid. z a 33 You have sent messengers to John, and he has testified to the truth. b 34 I don’t receive man’s testimony, but I say these things so that you may be saved. 35 John c d was a burning and shining lamp, e and for a time you were willing to enjoy his light. f
36 “But I have a greater testimony than John’s because of the works that the Father has given Me to accomplish. g These very works I am doing testify about Me that the Father has sent h Me. 37 The Father who sent Me has Himself testified i about Me. You have not heard His voice at any time, and you haven’t seen His form. j 38 You don’t have His word living in you, because you don’t believe the One He sent. 39 You pore over k the Scriptures l because you think you have eternal life in them, yet they testify about Me. m 40 And you are not willing n to come to Me o so that you may have life.
41 “I do not accept glory p from men, 42 but I know you—that you have no love for God q within you. 43 I have come in My Father’s name, r yet you don’t accept Me. s If someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him. 44 How can you believe? While accepting glory from one another, you don’t seek the glory that comes from the only t God. u 45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. Your accuser is Moses, v on whom you have set your hope. 46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, because he wrote about Me. 47 But if you don’t believe his writings, w how will you believe My words?” x
The Fourth Sign: Feeding 5,000
6 After y this, Jesus crossed the Sea of Galilee z (or Tiberias a). 2 And a huge crowd was following Him because they saw the signs that He was performing by healing the sick. 3 So Jesus went up a mountain and sat down there with His disciples.
4 Now the * Passover, a Jewish festival, was near. 5 Therefore, when Jesus looked up and noticed a huge crowd coming toward Him, b He asked Philip, c “Where will we buy bread so these people can eat?” 6 He asked this to test him, d for He Himself knew what He was going to do.
7 Philip answered, “Two hundred * denarii e worth of bread wouldn’t be enough for each of them to have a little.”
8 One of His disciples, Andrew, f Simon g Peter’s h brother, said to Him, 9 “There’s a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish—but what are they for so many?”
10 Then Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.”
There was plenty of grass in that place, so they sat down. The men numbered about 5,000. i 11 Then Jesus took the loaves, and after giving thanks He distributed them to those who were seated—so also with the fish, as much as they wanted. j
12 When they were full, He told His disciples, “Collect the leftovers so that nothing is wasted.” k 13 So they collected them and filled 12 baskets with the pieces from the five barley loaves that were left over by those who had eaten.
14 When the people saw the sign l He had done, they said, “This really is the Prophet m who was to come n into the world!” o
