Revelation 11:1–19

The Two Witnesses

11 Then I was given a measuring reed l like a rod, m with these words: “Go n and measure God’s sanctuary and the altar, and count those who worship there. But exclude the courtyard outside the sanctuary. o Don’t measure it, because it is given to the nations, p q and they will trample the holy city r for 42 months. s I will empower t my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, u v dressed in * sackcloth.” w x These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord y of the earth. z If anyone wants to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and consumes their enemies; a if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this way. These men have the power to close up the sky so that it does not rain during the days of their prophecy. b They also have power over the waters to turn them into blood c and to strike the earth with every plague whenever they want. d

The Witnesses Martyred

When they finish their testimony, the beast e f that comes up out of the * abyss g will make war with them, conquer them, and kill them. Their dead bodies h i will lie in the public square j of the great city, k which prophetically l is called Sodom m and Egypt, n where also their Lord was crucified. And representatives from o the peoples, tribes, languages, and nations p will view their bodies for three and a half days and not permit their bodies to be put into a tomb. q 10 Those who live on the earth will gloat r over them and celebrate and send gifts to one another because these two prophets brought judgment to those who live on the earth.

The Witnesses Resurrected

11 But after 3½ days, the breath s of life t from God entered them, and they stood on their feet. So great fear fell on those who saw them. 12 Then they heard u a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here.” They went up to heaven in a cloud, while their enemies watched them. v 13 At that moment a violent earthquake took place, w a tenth of the city fell, and 7,000 people were killed in the earthquake. The survivors were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven. 14 The second woe x has passed. Take note: The third woe is coming quickly!

The Seventh Trumpet

15 The seventh angel blew his trumpet, y and there were loud voices in heaven saying:

The kingdom of the * world has become the kingdom

of our Lord and of His * Messiah,

and He will reign forever and ever! z

16 The 24 elders, who were seated before God on their thrones, fell facedown and worshiped God, 17 saying:

We thank You, Lord God, the Almighty,

who is and who was, a b

because You have taken Your great power

and have begun to reign. c

18 The nations were angry, d

but Your wrath has come.

The time has come

for the dead to be judged

and to give the reward

to Your servants the prophets, e

to the * saints, and to those who fear Your name,

both small and great, f

and the time has come to destroy

those who destroy the earth.

19 God’s sanctuary in heaven was opened, and the ark of His covenant g appeared in His sanctuary. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings of thunder, h an earthquake, i and severe hail.

Revelation 21:1–22:21

The New Creation

21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, p for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, q and the sea no longer existed. r I also saw the Holy City, s new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, t prepared like a bride adorned for her husband. u

Then I heard a loud voice v from the throne: w x

Look! God’s dwelling y is with humanity,

and He will live with them.

They will be His people, z

and God Himself will be with them

and be their God. a

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. b

Death will no longer exist; c

grief, crying, and pain will exist no longer, d

because the previous things e have passed away. f

Then the One seated on the throne said, “Look! I am making everything new.” He also said, “Write, because these words g are faithful and true.” h And He said to me, “It is done! i I am the * Alpha and the Omega, j the Beginning and the End. k I will give water as a gift to the thirsty l from the spring of life. m The victor n will inherit these things, and I will be his God, and he will be My son. o But the cowards, unbelievers, p vile, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars q—their share will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, r which is the second death.” s

The New Jerusalem

Then one of the seven angels, who had held the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues, t came and spoke with me: “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 He then carried me away in the Spirit u v to a great and high mountain w and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, 11 arrayed with God’s glory. x Her radiance was like a very precious stone, like a jasper stone, bright as crystal. 12 The city had a massive high wall, with 12 gates. Twelve angels were at the gates; the names of the 12 tribes of Israel’s sons were inscribed on the gates. 13 There were three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west. y 14 The city wall had 12 foundations, and the 12 names of the Lamb’s 12 apostles were on the foundations.

15 The one who spoke with me had a gold measuring rod z to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. a 16 The city is laid out in a square; its length and width are the same. He measured the city with the rod at 12,000 stadia. b Its length, width, and height are equal. 17 Then he measured its wall, 144 * cubits according to human measurement, which the angel used. 18 The building material of its wall was jasper, and the city was pure gold like clear glass.

19 The foundations of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone: c

the first foundation jasper,

the second sapphire,

the third chalcedony,

the fourth emerald,

20 the fifth sardonyx,

the sixth carnelian,

the seventh chrysolite,

the eighth beryl,

the ninth topaz,

the tenth chrysoprase,

the eleventh jacinth,

the twelfth amethyst.

21 The 12 gates are 12 pearls; each individual gate was made of a single pearl. The broad street d of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.

22 I did not see a sanctuary in it, because the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its sanctuary. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because God’s glory illuminates it, and its lamp is the Lamb. e 24 The nations f will walk in its light, g and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. h i 25 Each day its gates will never close because it will never be night there. j 26 They will bring the glory and honor of the nations into it. k l 27 Nothing profane will ever enter it: m no one who does what is vile or false, but only those written in the Lamb’s book of life. n

The Source of Life

22 Then he showed me the river o of living water, p sparkling like crystal, q flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb r down the middle of the broad street of the city. The tree of life s was on both sides of the river, bearing 12 kinds of fruit, producing its fruit every month. t The leaves of the tree are for healing the nations, u and there will no longer be any curse. v The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, w and His * slaves will serve Him. They will see His face, x and His name will be on their foreheads. y Night will no longer exist, z and people will not need lamplight or sunlight, because the Lord God will give them light. a And they will reign forever and ever.

The Time Is Near

Then he said to me, “These words are faithful and true. b And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, c has sent His angel to show His slaves what must quickly take place.” d e

Look, I am coming quickly! f The one who keeps the prophetic words of this book is blessed.” g

I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. When I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had shown them to me. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow slave with you, your * brothers the prophets, and those who keep the words …
