Nehemiah Ensures That the Levites Receive Their Portion of the Offerings

10I learned that the Levites had not been given their portions. So each of the Levites and singers, who conducted the worship ⸤in the temple⸥, had left for their own fields. 11I reprimanded the leaders. “Why is God’s temple being neglected?” I asked. So I brought the Levites back together and put them back in their places of service.

And then I came to learn that the food of the Levites had not been given to them, so that the Levites and the singers, the doers of the work, had gone back each to his field. So I quarreled with the prefects, and I said, “Why is the house of God forsaken?” And I gathered them and set them at their station.

And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them: for the Levites and the singers, that did the work, were fled every one to his field. Then contended I with the rulers, and said, Why is the house of God forsaken? And I gathered them together, and set them in their place.
