Footnotes

  1. 14 Or “for he will.” The translation assumes the כִּי (ki) is asseverative here, rather than causal.
  2. 15 Heb “he will hide me in his hut.”
  3. 16 Or “trouble.”
  4. 17 Heb “tent.”
  5. 18 The three imperfect verb forms in v. 5 anticipate a positive response to the prayer offered in vv. 7–12.
  6. 19 Heb “on a rocky summit he lifts me up.” The Lord places the psalmist in an inaccessible place where his enemies cannot reach him. See Ps 18:2.
  7. 20 Heb “and now my head will be lifted up over my enemies all around me.” In vv. 1–3 the psalmist generalizes, but here we discover that he is facing a crisis and is under attack from enemies (see vv. 11–12).
  8. 21 Heb “I will sacrifice in his tent sacrifices of a shout for joy” (that is, “sacrifices accompanied by a joyful shout”).

at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy;

I will sing and make music to the Lord.

NLTNew Living Translation

For he will conceal me there when troubles come;

he will hide me in his sanctuary.

Then I will hold my head high

At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy,

singing and praising the Lord with music.

He will conceal me in the hiding place of his tent.

He will set me high upon a rock.

And now my head will be high over my enemies round about me.

I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to Yahweh.

KJV 1900King James Version

For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion:

In the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me;

He shall set me up upon a rock.

And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me:

Therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy;

I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord.
