119:121I do what is fair and right.157
Do not abandon me to my oppressors!
119:122Guarantee the welfare of your servant!158
Do not let the arrogant oppress me!
119:123My eyes grow tired as I wait for your deliverance,159
for your reliable promise to be fulfilled.160
119:124Show your servant your loyal love!161
Teach me your statutes!
119:125I am your servant. Give me insight,
so that I can understand162 your rules.
119:126It is time for the Lord to act—
they break your law!
119:127For this reason163 I love your commands
more than gold, even purest gold.
119:128For this reason I carefully follow all your precepts.164
I hate all deceitful actions.165
Footnotes
- 157 Heb “do justice and righteousness.”
- 158 Heb “be surety for your servant for good.”
- 159 Heb “my eyes fail for your deliverance.” The psalmist has intently kept his eyes open, looking for God to intervene, but now his eyes are watery and bloodshot, impairing his vision. See the similar phrase in v. 82.
- 160 Heb “and for the word of your faithfulness.”
- 161 Heb “do with your servant according to your loyal love.”
- 162 or “know.” The cohortative verbal form with vav (ו) conjunctive indicates purpose/result after the preceding imperative.
- 163 “For this reason” connects logically with the statement made in v. 126. Because the judgment the psalmist fears (see vv. 119–120) is imminent, he remains loyal to God’s law.
- 164 Heb “for this reason all the precepts of everything I regard as right.” The phrase “precepts of everything” is odd. It is preferable to take the kaf (ך) on כֹּל (kol, “everything) with the preceding form as a pronominal suffix, “your precepts,” and the lamed (ל) with the following verb as an emphatic particle. See L. C. Allen, Psalms 101–150 (), .
- 165 Heb “every false path.”

I have done what is just and right;
do not leave me to my oppressors.
Give your servant a pledge of good;
let not the insolent oppress me.
My eyes long for your salvation
and for the fulfillment of your righteous promise.
Deal with your servant according to your steadfast love,
and teach me your statutes.
I am your servant; give me understanding,
that I may know your testimonies!
It is time for the Lord to act,
for your law has been broken.
Therefore I love your commandments
above gold, above fine gold.
Therefore I consider all your precepts to be right;
I hate every false way.

I have done what is righteous and just;
do not leave me to my oppressors.
Ensure your servant’s well-being;
do not let the arrogant oppress me.
My eyes fail, looking for your salvation,
looking for your righteous promise.
Deal with your servant according to your love
and teach me your decrees.
I am your servant; give me discernment
that I may understand your statutes.
It is time for you to act, Lord;
your law is being broken.
Because I love your commands
more than gold, more than pure gold,
and because I consider all your precepts right,
I hate every wrong path.

Don’t leave me to the mercy of my enemies,
for I have done what is just and right.
Please guarantee a blessing for me.
Don’t let the arrogant oppress me!
My eyes strain to see your rescue,
to see the truth of your promise fulfilled.
I am your servant; deal with me in unfailing love,
and teach me your decrees.
Give discernment to me, your servant;
then I will understand your laws.
Lord, it is time for you to act,
for these evil people have violated your instructions.
Truly, I love your commands
more than gold, even the finest gold.
Each of your commandments is right.
That is why I hate every false way.

AIN.
I have done judgment and justice:
Leave me not to mine oppressors.
Be surety for thy servant for good:
Let not the proud oppress me.
Mine eyes fail for thy salvation,
And for the word of thy righteousness.
Deal with thy servant according unto thy mercy,
And teach me thy statutes.
I am thy servant; give me understanding,
That I may know thy testimonies.
It is time for thee, Lord, to work:
For they have made void thy law.
Therefore I love thy commandments
Above gold; yea, above fine gold.
Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right;
And I hate every false way.
