Footnotes
- 33 Heb “Jacob loved.”
- 34 Heb “Better my giving her to you than my giving her to another man.”
- 35 Heb “in exchange for Rachel.”
- 36 But they seemed like only a few days to him. This need not mean that the time passed quickly. More likely it means that the price seemed insignificant when compared to what he was getting in the bargain.
- 37 Heb “because of his love for her.” The words “was so great” are supplied for stylistic reasons.

Since Jacob was in love with Rachel, he told her father, “I’ll work for you for seven years if you’ll give me Rachel, your younger daughter, as my wife.”
“Agreed!” Laban replied. “I’d rather give her to you than to anyone else. Stay and work with me.” So Jacob worked seven years to pay for Rachel. But his love for her was so strong that it seemed to him but a few days.
