9:4I prayed to the LORD my God, confessing in this way:
“O Lord,12 great and awesome God who is faithful to his covenant13 with those who love him and keep his commandments, 9:5we have sinned! We have done what is wrong and wicked; we have rebelled by turning away from your commandments and standards. 9:6We have not paid attention to your servants the prophets, who spoke by your authority14 to our kings, our leaders, and our ancestors,15 and to all the inhabitants16 of the land as well.
Footnotes

- 14 Heb “in your name.” Another option is to translate, “as your representatives.”

Ah, Lord—the great and awe-inspiring God who keeps his gracious covenant with those who love him and keep his commands—we have sinned, done wrong, acted wickedly, rebelled, and turned away from your commands and ordinances. I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed:
“O Lord, you are a great and awesome God! You always fulfill your covenant and keep your promises of unfailing love to those who love you and obey your commands. But we have sinned and done wrong. And I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession, and said,
O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments; We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments: Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.
