The Future Deliverance of Jerusalem

12This is a message about Israel from the Lord, the Lord who spread out the skies, created the earth, and gave life to man. He says, 2“I will make Jerusalem like a cup of wine; the nations round her will drink and stagger like drunken men. And when they besiege Jerusalem, the cities of the rest of Judah will also be besieged. 3But when that time comes, I will make Jerusalem like a heavy stone—any nation that tries to lift it will be hurt. All the nations of the world will join forces to attack her.

All the nations will gather against it to try to move it, but they will only hurt themselves.

The word of Yahweh concerning Israel. “Thus declares Yahweh, who stretches out the heavens, founds the earth, and forms the spirit of humankind in its midst: ‘Look, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup of reeling for all the surrounding nations; it will also be against Judah in the siege against Jerusalem. And then on that day I will make Jerusalem a stone weight for all the peoples. All those lifting it up will grievously hurt themselves, and all the nations of the earth will assemble against it.

KJV 1900King James Version

The burden of the word of the Lord for Israel, saith the Lord,

Which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth,

And formeth the spirit of man within him.

Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about,

When they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.

And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people:

All that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces,

Though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
