Psalm 5:4–10 — The New International Version (NIV)

For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness;

with you, evil people are not welcome.

The arrogant cannot stand

in your presence.

You hate all who do wrong;

you destroy those who tell lies.

The bloodthirsty and deceitful

you, Lord, detest.

But I, by your great love,

can come into your house;

in reverence I bow down

toward your holy temple.

Lead me, Lord, in your righteousness

because of my enemies—

make your way straight before me.

Not a word from their mouth can be trusted;

their heart is filled with malice.

Their throat is an open grave;

with their tongues they tell lies.

10 Declare them guilty, O God!

Let their intrigues be their downfall.

Banish them for their many sins,

for they have rebelled against you.

Psalm 5:4–10 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness:

Neither shall evil dwell with thee.

The foolish shall not stand in thy sight:

Thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing:

The Lord will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.

But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy:

And in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies;

Make thy way straight before my face.

For there is no faithfulness in their mouth;

Their inward part is very wickedness;

Their throat is an open sepulchre;

They flatter with their tongue.

10 Destroy thou them, O God;

Let them fall by their own counsels;

Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions;

For they have rebelled against thee.

Psalm 5:4–10 — New Living Translation (NLT)

O God, you take no pleasure in wickedness;

you cannot tolerate the sins of the wicked.

Therefore, the proud may not stand in your presence,

for you hate all who do evil.

You will destroy those who tell lies.

The Lord detests murderers and deceivers.

Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house;

I will worship at your Temple with deepest awe.

Lead me in the right path, O Lord,

or my enemies will conquer me.

Make your way plain for me to follow.

My enemies cannot speak a truthful word.

Their deepest desire is to destroy others.

Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave.

Their tongues are filled with flattery.

10 O God, declare them guilty.

Let them be caught in their own traps.

Drive them away because of their many sins,

for they have rebelled against you.

Psalm 5:4–10 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness,

Nor shall evil dwell with You.

The boastful shall not stand in Your sight;

You hate all workers of iniquity.

You shall destroy those who speak falsehood;

The Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy;

In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple.

Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies;

Make Your way straight before my face.

For there is no faithfulness in their mouth;

Their inward part is destruction;

Their throat is an open tomb;

They flatter with their tongue.

10 Pronounce them guilty, O God!

Let them fall by their own counsels;

Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions,

For they have rebelled against You.

Psalm 5:4–10 — New Century Version (NCV)

You are not a God who is pleased with the wicked;

you do not live with those who do evil.

Those people who make fun of you cannot stand before you.

You hate all those who do evil.

You destroy liars;

the Lord hates those who kill and trick others.

Because of your great love,

I can come into your Temple.

Because I fear and respect you,

I can worship in your holy Temple.

Lord, since I have many enemies,

show me the right thing to do.

Show me clearly how you want me to live.

My enemies’ mouths do not tell the truth;

in their hearts they want to destroy others.

Their throats are like open graves;

they use their tongues for telling lies.

10 God, declare them guilty!

Let them fall into their own traps.

Send them away because their sins are many;

they have turned against you.

Psalm 5:4–10 — American Standard Version (ASV)

For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness:

Evil shall not sojourn with thee.

The arrogant shall not stand in thy sight:

Thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

Thou wilt destroy them that speak lies:

Jehovah abhorreth the blood-thirsty and deceitful man.

But as for me, in the abundance of thy lovingkindness will I come into thy house:

In thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

Lead me, O Jehovah, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies;

Make thy way straight before my face.

For there is no faithfulness in their mouth;

Their inward part is very wickedness;

Their throat is an open sepulchre;

They flatter with their tongue.

10 Hold them guilty, O God;

Let them fall by their own counsels;

Thrust them out in the multitude of their transgressions;

For they have rebelled against thee.

Psalm 5:4–10 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

For thou art not a •God that hath pleasure in wickedness; evil shall not sojourn with thee. Insolent fools shall not stand before thine eyes; thou hatest all workers of iniquity. Thou wilt destroy them that speak lies: Jehovah abhorreth a man of blood and deceit.

But as for me, in the greatness of thy loving-kindness will I enter thy house; I will bow down toward the temple of thy holiness in thy fear. Lead me, Jehovah, in thy righteousness, because of my foes; make thy way plain before me. For there is no certainty in their mouth; their inward part is perversion, their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue. 10 Bring guilt upon them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels: drive them out in the multitude of their transgressions, for they have rebelled against thee.

Psalm 5:4–10 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness.

Evil will never be your guest.

Those who brag cannot stand in your sight.

You hate all troublemakers.

You destroy those who tell lies.

The Lord is disgusted with bloodthirsty and deceitful people.

But I will enter your house because of your great mercy.

Out of reverence for you, I will bow toward your holy temple.

O Lord, lead me in your righteousness because of those who spy on me.

Make your way in front of me smooth.

Nothing in their mouths is truthful.

Destruction comes from their hearts.

Their throats are open graves.

They flatter with their tongues.

10 Condemn them, O God.

Let their own schemes be their downfall.

Throw them out for their many crimes

because they have rebelled against you.

Psalm 5:4–10 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

For You are not a God who delights in wickedness;

evil cannot dwell with You.

The boastful cannot stand in Your presence;

You hate all evildoers.

You destroy those who tell lies;

the Lord abhors a man of bloodshed and treachery.

But I enter Your house

by the abundance of Your faithful love;

I bow down toward Your holy temple

in reverential awe of You.

Lord, lead me in Your righteousness

because of my adversaries;

make Your way straight before me.

For there is nothing reliable in what they say;

destruction is within them;

their throat is an open grave;

they flatter with their tongues.

10 Punish them, God;

let them fall by their own schemes.

Drive them out because of their many crimes,

for they rebel against You.

But as for me, through the abundance of your steadfast love

I will enter your house.

I will bow down toward your holy temple in awe of you.

O Yahweh, lead me in your righteousness because of my enemies;

make straight before me your way.

For there is not anything reliable in his mouth;

their inner part is destruction.

Their throat is an open grave;

with their tongue they speak deceit.

10 Treat them as guilty, O God;

let them fall because of their plans.

Because of the abundance of their transgressions cast them out,

for they have rebelled against you.

Psalm 5:4–10 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Lord, you hate murderers and those who cheat others.

Because of your great love

I will come into your house.

With deep respect I will bow down

toward your holy temple.

Lord, I have many enemies.

Lead me in your right path.

Make your way smooth and straight for me.

Not a word from their mouths can be trusted.

Their hearts are filled with plans to destroy others.

Their throats are like open graves.

With their tongues they tell lies.

10 God, show that they are guilty.

Let their evil plans bring them down.

Send them away because of their many sins.

They have refused to obey you.

Psalm 5:4–10 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness;

No evil dwells with You.

The boastful shall not stand before Your eyes;

You hate all who do iniquity.

You destroy those who speak falsehood;

The Lord abhors the man of bloodshed and deceit.

But as for me, by Your abundant lovingkindness I will enter Your house,

At Your holy temple I will bow in reverence for You.

O Lord, lead me in Your righteousness because of my foes;

Make Your way straight before me.

There is nothing reliable in what they say;

Their inward part is destruction itself.

Their throat is an open grave;

They flatter with their tongue.

10 Hold them guilty, O God;

By their own devices let them fall!

In the multitude of their transgressions thrust them out,

For they are rebellious against You.
