Matthew 14:5–6

5 Herod wanted to kill John, but he was afraid of the people, because they considered John a prophet.

6 On Herod’s birthday the daughter of Herodias danced for the guests and pleased Herod so much

5 And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet. 6 But when Herod’s birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

5 Herod wanted to kill John, but he was afraid of a riot, because all the people believed John was a prophet.

6 But at a birthday party for Herod, Herodias’s daughter performed a dance that greatly pleased him,

5 And although he wanted to put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

6 But when Herod’s birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod.

5 And while desiring to kill him, he feared the crowd, because they held him for a prophet. 6 But when Herod’s birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod;

5 So Herod wanted to kill John. However, he was afraid of the people because they thought John was a prophet. 

6 When Herod celebrated his birthday, Herodias’ daughter danced for his guests. Herod was so delighted with her that

6 But when Herod’s birthday celebration came, Herodias’s daughter danced before them and pleased Herod.
