Luke 20:47–21:3

47 They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.”

1 As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. 2 He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. 3 “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others.

47 Which devour widows’ houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

1 And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. 2 And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites. 3 And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:

47 Yet they shamelessly cheat widows out of their property and then pretend to be pious by making long prayers in public. Because of this, they will be severely punished.”

1 While Jesus was in the Temple, he watched the rich people dropping their gifts in the collection box. 2 Then a poor widow came by and dropped in two small coins.

3 “I tell you the truth,” Jesus said, “this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them.

1 And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, 2 and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. 3 So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all;

47 But they cheat widows and steal their houses and then try to make themselves look good by saying long prayers. They will receive a greater punishment.”

1 As Jesus looked up, he saw some rich people putting their gifts into the Temple money box. 2 Then he saw a poor widow putting two small copper coins into the box. 3 He said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow gave more than all those rich people.

1 And he looked up, and saw the rich men that were casting their gifts into the treasury. 2 And he saw a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites. 3 And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, This poor widow cast in more than they all:

47 who devour the houses of widows, and as a pretext make long prayers. These shall receive a severer judgment.

1 And he looked up and saw the rich casting their gifts into the treasury; 2 but he saw also a certain poor widow casting therein two mites. 3 And he said, Verily I say unto you, that this poor widow has cast in more than all;

47 They rob widows by taking their houses and then say long prayers to make themselves look good. The experts in Moses’ Teachings will receive the most severe punishment.” 

1 Looking up, Jesus saw people, especially the rich, dropping their gifts into the temple offering box. 2 He noticed a poor widow drop in two small coins. 3 He said, “I can guarantee this truth: This poor widow has given more than all the others.

1 He looked up and saw the rich dropping their offerings into the temple treasury. 2 He also saw a poor widow dropping in two tiny coins. 3 “I tell you the truth,” He said. “This poor widow has put in more than all of them.

47 They devour widows’ houses and for the sake of appearance say long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”

1 He looked up and saw rich people putting their gifts into the treasury; 2 he also saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. 3 He said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them,

47 who devour the houses of widows and pray lengthy prayers for the sake of appearance. These will receive more severe condemnation!”

1 And he looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the contribution box, 2 and he saw a certain poor widow putting in there two small copper coins. 3 And he said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow put in more than all of them.

47 They take over the houses of widows. They say long prayers to show off. God will punish those men very much.”

3 “What I’m about to tell you is true,” Jesus said. “That poor widow has put in more than all the others.
