Lamentations 3:17–20

17 I have been deprived of peace;

I have forgotten what prosperity is.

18 So I say, “My splendor is gone

and all that I had hoped from the Lord.”

19 I remember my affliction and my wandering,

the bitterness and the gall.

20 I well remember them,

and my soul is downcast within me.

17 And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace: I forgat prosperity.

18 And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the Lord:

19 Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.

20 My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.

17 Peace has been stripped away,

and I have forgotten what prosperity is.

18 I cry out, “My splendor is gone!

Everything I had hoped for from the Lord is lost!”

19 The thought of my suffering and homelessness

is bitter beyond words.

20 I will never forget this awful time,

as I grieve over my loss.

17 You have moved my soul far from peace;

I have forgotten prosperity.

18 And I said, “My strength and my hope

Have perished from the Lord.”

19 Remember my affliction and roaming,

The wormwood and the gall.

20 My soul still remembers

And sinks within me.

17 I have no more peace.

I have forgotten what happiness is.

18 I said, “My strength is gone,

and I have no hope in the Lord.”

19 Lord, remember my suffering and my misery,

my sorrow and trouble.

20 Please remember me

and think about me.

17 And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace; I forgat prosperity. 18 And I said, My strength is perished, and mine expectation from Jehovah.

19 Remember mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall. 20 My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is bowed down within me.

17 And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace: I have forgotten prosperity. 18 And I said, My strength is perished, and my hope in Jehovah. 19 Remember thou mine affliction and my wandering, the wormwood and the gall. 20 My soul hath them constantly in remembrance, and is humbled in me.

17 “My soul has been kept from enjoying peace. 

I have forgotten what happiness is. 

18 I said, ‘I’ve lost my strength ⸤to live⸥ and my hope in the Lord.’ 

19 Remember my suffering and my ⸤aimless⸥ wandering, 

the wormwood and poison. 

20 My soul continues to remember ⸤these things⸥ and is so discouraged. 

17 My soul has been deprived of peace;

I have forgotten what happiness is.

18 Then I thought: My future is lost,

as well as my hope from the Lord.

19 Remember my affliction and my homelessness,

the wormwood and the poison.

20 I continually remember them

and have become depressed.

17 my soul is bereft of peace;

I have forgotten what happiness is;

18 so I say, “Gone is my glory

and all that I had hoped for from the Lord.”

19 The thought of my affliction and my homelessness

is wormwood and gall!

20 My soul continually thinks of it

and is bowed down within me.

17 My life has been removed from peace,

I have forgotten goodness.

18 And I have said, “My glory is ruined,

my expectation from Yahweh.”

19 Remember my misery and bitterness,

the wormwood and venom!

20 Surely my soul remembers

and bows down within me.

17 I have lost all hope of ever having any peace.

I’ve forgotten what good times are like.

18 So I say, “My glory has faded away.

My hope in the Lord is gone.”

19 I remember how I suffered and wandered.

I remember how bitter my life was.

20 I remember it very well.

My spirit is very sad deep down inside me.

17 My soul has been rejected from peace;

I have forgotten happiness.

18 So I say, “My strength has perished,

And so has my hope from the Lord.”

19 Remember my affliction and my wandering, the wormwood and bitterness.

20 Surely my soul remembers

And is bowed down within me.
