Job 5:6–8

6 For hardship does not spring from the soil,

nor does trouble sprout from the ground.

7 Yet man is born to trouble

as surely as sparks fly upward.

8 “But if I were you, I would appeal to God;

I would lay my cause before him.

6 Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust,

Neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;

7 Yet man is born unto trouble,

As the sparks fly upward.

8 I would seek unto God,

And unto God would I commit my cause:

6 But evil does not spring from the soil,

and trouble does not sprout from the earth.

7 People are born for trouble

as readily as sparks fly up from a fire.

8 “If I were you, I would go to God

and present my case to him.

6 For affliction does not come from the dust,

Nor does trouble spring from the ground;

7 Yet man is born to trouble,

As the sparks fly upward.

8 “But as for me, I would seek God,

And to God I would commit my cause—

6 Hard times do not come up from the ground,

and trouble does not grow from the earth.

7 People produce trouble

as surely as sparks fly upward.

8 “But if I were you, I would call on God

and bring my problem before him.

6 For affliction cometh not forth from the dust,

Neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;

7 But man is born unto trouble,

As the sparks fly upward.

8 But as for me, I would seek unto God,

And unto God would I commit my cause;

6 For evil cometh not forth from the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground; 7 For man is born to trouble, as the sparks fly upwards. 8 But as for me I will seek unto •God, and unto God commit my cause;

6 Certainly, sorrow doesn’t come from the soil, 

and trouble doesn’t sprout from the ground. 

7 But a person is born for trouble as surely as sparks fly up ⸤from a fire⸥. 

8 “But I would seek God’s help 

and present my case to him. 

6 For distress does not grow out of the soil,

and trouble does not sprout from the ground.

7 But mankind is born for trouble

as surely as sparks fly upward.

8 However, if I were you, I would appeal to God

and would present my case to Him.

6 For misery does not come from the earth,

nor does trouble sprout from the ground,

7 but humans are born to trouble

just as sparks fly upward.

8 “As for me, I would seek God,

and to God I would commit my cause.

6 Indeed, mischief does not come from the dust,

and trouble does not sprout from the earth.

7 But a human being is born to trouble,

and they soar aloft like sparks.

8 “But I myself will seek God,

and to God I would commit my cause.

6 Hard times don’t just grow out of the soil.

Trouble doesn’t jump out of the ground.

7 People are born to have trouble.

And that’s just as sure as sparks fly up.

8 “If I were you, I’d make my appeal to God.

I’d bring my case to be judged by him.

6 “For affliction does not come from the dust,

Nor does trouble sprout from the ground,

7 For man is born for trouble,

As sparks fly upward.

8 “But as for me, I would seek God,

And I would place my cause before God;
