Jeremiah 8:21–22

21 Since my people are crushed, I am crushed;

I mourn, and horror grips me.

22 Is there no balm in Gilead?

Is there no physician there?

Why then is there no healing

for the wound of my people?

21 For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am black; astonishment hath taken hold on me. 22 Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?

21 I hurt with the hurt of my people.

I mourn and am overcome with grief.

22 Is there no medicine in Gilead?

Is there no physician there?

Why is there no healing

for the wounds of my people?

21 For the hurt of the daughter of my people I am hurt.

I am mourning;

Astonishment has taken hold of me.

22 Is there no balm in Gilead,

Is there no physician there?

Why then is there no recovery

For the health of the daughter of my people?

21 Because my people are crushed, I am crushed.

I cry loudly and am afraid for them.

22 Isn’t there balm in the land of Gilead?

Isn’t there a doctor there?

So why aren’t the hurts of my people healed?

21 For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt: I mourn; dismay hath taken hold on me. 22 Is there no balm in Gilead? is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?

21 —For the breach of the daughter of my people am I crushed; I go mourning; astonishment hath taken hold of me. 22 Is there no balm in Gilead? is there no physician there? Why then is there no dressing applied for the healing of the daughter of my people?

21 I am crushed because my dear people have been crushed. 

I mourn; terror grips me. 

22 Isn’t there medicine in Gilead? 

Aren’t there doctors there? 

Then why hasn’t the health of my dear people been restored? 

21 I am broken by the brokenness

of my dear people.

I mourn; horror has taken hold of me.

22 Is there no balm in Gilead?

Is there no physician there?

So why has the healing of my dear people

not come about?

21 For the brokenness of the daughter of my people I am broken,

I mourn, and horror has seized me.

22 Is there no balm in Gilead?

Is there no physician there?

Why then has the health of the daughter of my people

not been restored?

21 “Because of the wound of the daughter of my people I am broken down,

I mourn, horror has seized me.

22 Is there no balm in Gilead?

Is there no healer there?

Why, then, has the healing of the daughter of my people not been restored?

21 My people are crushed, so I am crushed.

I sob, and I am filled with horror.

22 Isn’t there any healing lotion in Gilead?

Isn’t there a doctor there?

Then why doesn’t someone heal

the wounds of my people?

21 For the brokenness of the daughter of my people I am broken;

I mourn, dismay has taken hold of me.

22 Is there no balm in Gilead?

Is there no physician there?

Why then has not the health of the daughter of my people been restored?
