Jeremiah 6:8–10

8 Take warning, Jerusalem,

or I will turn away from you

and make your land desolate

so no one can live in it.”

9 This is what the Lord Almighty says:

“Let them glean the remnant of Israel

as thoroughly as a vine;

pass your hand over the branches again,

like one gathering grapes.”

10 To whom can I speak and give warning?

Who will listen to me?

Their ears are closed

so they cannot hear.

The word of the Lord is offensive to them;

they find no pleasure in it.

8 Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited.

9 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, They shall throughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets. 10 To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the Lord is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

8 Listen to this warning, Jerusalem,

or I will turn from you in disgust.

Listen, or I will turn you into a heap of ruins,

a land where no one lives.”

9 This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says:

“Even the few who remain in Israel

will be picked over again,

as when a harvester checks each vine a second time

to pick the grapes that were missed.”

10 To whom can I give warning?

Who will listen when I speak?

Their ears are closed,

and they cannot hear.

They scorn the word of the Lord.

They don’t want to listen at all.

8 Be instructed, O Jerusalem,

Lest My soul depart from you;

Lest I make you desolate,

A land not inhabited.”

9 Thus says the Lord of hosts:

“They shall thoroughly glean as a vine the remnant of Israel;

As a grape-gatherer, put your hand back into the branches.”

10 To whom shall I speak and give warning,

That they may hear?

Indeed their ear is uncircumcised,

And they cannot give heed.

Behold, the word of the Lord is a reproach to them;

They have no delight in it.

8 Listen to this warning, Jerusalem,

or I will turn my back on you

and make your land an empty desert

where no one can live.”

9 This is what the Lord All-Powerful says:

“Gather the few people of Israel who are left alive,

as you would gather the last grapes on a grapevine.

Check each vine again,

like someone who gathers grapes.”

10 To whom can I speak? Whom can I warn?

Who will listen to me?

The people of Israel have closed ears,

so they cannot hear my warnings.

They don’t like the word of the Lord;

they don’t want to listen to it!

9 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, They shall thoroughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn again thy hand as a grape-gatherer into the baskets. 10 To whom shall I speak and testify, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of Jehovah is become unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

8 Be thou instructed, Jerusalem, lest my soul be alienated from thee; lest I make thee a desolation, a land not inhabited.

9 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: They shall thoroughly glean like a vine the remnant of Israel: turn back thy hand, as a grape-gatherer unto the baskets. 10 To whom shall I speak and testify, that they may hear? Behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of Jehovah is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

8 Pay attention to my warning, Jerusalem, 

or I will turn away from you. 

I will make your land desolate, 

a land where no one will live. 

9 This is what the Lord of Armies says: 

Thoroughly pick through the faithful few of Israel 

like someone picks through a grapevine. 

Like someone picking grapes, pass your hand over its branches again. 

10 Whom can I speak to? 

Whom can I give a warning to? 

Who will listen? 

Their ears are plugged, 

and they aren’t able to pay attention. 

When the Lord speaks his word to them, 

they show contempt for it and object to it. 

8 Be warned, Jerusalem,

or I will turn away from you;

I will make you a desolation,

a land without inhabitants.

9 This is what the Lord of Hosts says:

Glean the remnant of Israel

as thoroughly as a vine.

Pass your hand once more like a grape gatherer

over the branches.

10 Who can I speak to and give such a warning

that they will listen?

Look, their ear is uncircumcised,

so they cannot pay attention.

See, the word of the Lord has become contemptible to them—

they find no pleasure in it.

8 Take warning, O Jerusalem,

or I shall turn from you in disgust

and make you a desolation,

an uninhabited land.

9 Thus says the Lord of hosts:

Glean thoroughly as a vine

the remnant of Israel;

like a grape gatherer, pass your hand again

over its branches.

10 To whom shall I speak and give warning,

that they may hear?

See, their ears are closed;

they cannot listen.

The word of the Lord is to them an object of scorn;

they take no pleasure in it.

8 Be warned, O Jerusalem,

lest I turn away from you in disgust,

lest I make you a desolation,

a land that is not inhabited.”

9 Thus says Yahweh of hosts:

“They will thoroughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine,

turn back your hand over the branches like a grape-gatherer.

10 To whom shall I speak and admonish,

that they may hear?

Look, their ears are closed,

and they are not able to listen attentively.

Look, the word of Yahweh is to them an object of scorn,

they do not delight in it.

8 Jerusalem, listen to my warning.

If you do not, I will turn away from you.

Your land will become a desert.

No one will be able to live there.”

9 The Lord rules over all. He says to me,

“People gather the few grapes that are left on a vine.

So let Israel’s enemies gather the few people

who are left alive in the land.

Look carefully at the branches again.

Do it like someone who gathers the last few grapes.”

10 Who can I speak to? Who can I warn?

Who will even listen to me?

Their ears are closed

so they can’t hear.

The Lord’s message displeases them.

They don’t take any delight in it.

8 “Be warned, O Jerusalem,

Or I shall be alienated from you,

And make you a desolation,

A land not inhabited.”

9 Thus says the Lord of hosts,

“They will thoroughly glean as the vine the remnant of Israel;

Pass your hand again like a grape gatherer

Over the branches.”

10 To whom shall I speak and give warning

That they may hear?

Behold, their ears are closed

And they cannot listen.

Behold, the word of the Lord has become a reproach to them;

They have no delight in it.
