8 Turn and flee, hide in deep caves,

you who live in Dedan,

for I will bring disaster on Esau

at the time when I punish him.

9 If grape pickers came to you,

would they not leave a few grapes?

If thieves came during the night,

would they not steal only as much as they wanted?

8 Flee ye, turn back,

Dwell deep, O inhabitants of Dedan;

For I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him,

The time that I will visit him.

9 If grapegatherers come to thee, would they not leave some gleaning grapes?

If thieves by night, they will destroy till they have enough.

8 Turn and flee!

Hide in deep caves, you people of Dedan!

For when I bring disaster on Edom,

I will punish you, too!

9 Those who harvest grapes

always leave a few for the poor.

If thieves came at night,

they would not take everything.

8 Flee, turn back, dwell in the depths, O inhabitants of Dedan!

For I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him,

The time that I will punish him.

9 If grape-gatherers came to you,

Would they not leave some gleaning grapes?

If thieves by night,

Would they not destroy until they have enough?

8 You people living in the town of Dedan,

run away and hide in deep caves,

because I will bring disaster on the people of Esau.

It is time for me to punish them.

9 If workers came and picked the grapes from your vines,

they would leave a few grapes behind.

If robbers came at night,

they would steal only enough for themselves.

8 Flee ye, turn back, dwell in the depths, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him, the time that I shall visit him. 9 If grape-gatherers came to thee, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? if thieves by night, would they not destroy till they had enough?

8 Flee, turn back, dwell deep down, ye inhabitants of Dedan! For I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him, the time that I visit him. 9 If grape-gatherers had come to thee, would they not have left a gleaning? If thieves by night, they would destroy only till they had enough.

9 If people come to pick your grapes, 

won’t they leave a few grapes behind? 

If thieves come during the night, 

won’t they steal only until they’ve had enough? 

8 Run! Turn back! Lie low,

residents of Dedan,

for I will bring Esau’s calamity on him

at the time I punish him.

9 If grape harvesters came to you,

they would destroy only what they wanted.

For I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him,

even they would pillage only what they wanted.

8 Flee! Turn back! Get down low!

For I will bring upon him the disaster of Esau

at the time when I will punish him.

9 If grape-gatherers come to you,

would they not leave gleanings?

If thieves in the night,

they destroy only enough for them.

8 Turn around and run away, you who live in Dedan.

Hide in deep caves.

I will bring trouble on Esau’s family line.

I will do it at the time I punish them.

9 Edom, suppose grape pickers came to harvest your vines.

They would still leave a few grapes.

Suppose robbers came at night.

They would steal only as much as they wanted.
