Jeremiah 4:11–15

11 At that time this people and Jerusalem will be told, “A scorching wind from the barren heights in the desert blows toward my people, but not to winnow or cleanse; 12 a wind too strong for that comes from me. Now I pronounce my judgments against them.”

13 Look! He advances like the clouds,

his chariots come like a whirlwind,

his horses are swifter than eagles.

Woe to us! We are ruined!

14 Jerusalem, wash the evil from your heart and be saved.

How long will you harbor wicked thoughts?

15 A voice is announcing from Dan,

proclaiming disaster from the hills of Ephraim.

11 At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem,

A dry wind of the high places in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people,

Not to fan, nor to cleanse,

12 Even a full wind from those places shall come unto me:

Now also will I give sentence against them.

13 Behold, he shall come up as clouds,

And his chariots shall be as a whirlwind:

His horses are swifter than eagles.

Woe unto us! for we are spoiled.

14 O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved.

How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?

15 For a voice declareth from Dan,

And publisheth affliction from mount Ephraim.

11 The time is coming when the Lord will say

to the people of Jerusalem,

“My dear people, a burning wind is blowing in from the desert,

and it’s not a gentle breeze useful for winnowing grain.

12 It is a roaring blast sent by me!

Now I will pronounce your destruction!”

13 Our enemy rushes down on us like storm clouds!

His chariots are like whirlwinds.

His horses are swifter than eagles.

How terrible it will be, for we are doomed!

14 O Jerusalem, cleanse your heart

that you may be saved.

How long will you harbor

your evil thoughts?

15 Your destruction has been announced

from Dan and the hill country of Ephraim.

11 At that time it will be said

To this people and to Jerusalem,

“A dry wind of the desolate heights blows in the wilderness—

Toward the daughter of My people—

Not to fan or to cleanse—

12 A wind too strong for these will come for Me;

Now I will also speak judgment against them.”

13 “Behold, he shall come up like clouds,

And his chariots like a whirlwind.

His horses are swifter than eagles.

Woe to us, for we are plundered!”

14 O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness,

That you may be saved.

How long shall your evil thoughts lodge within you?

15 For a voice declares from Dan

And proclaims affliction from Mount Ephraim:

11 At that time this message will be given to Judah and Jerusalem: “A hot wind blows from the bare hilltops of the desert toward the Lord’s people. It is not a gentle wind to separate grain from chaff. 12 I feel a stronger wind than that. Now even I will announce judgments against the people of Judah.”

13 Look! The enemy rises up like a cloud,

and his chariots come like a tornado.

His horses are faster than eagles.

How terrible it will be for us! We are ruined!

14 People of Jerusalem, clean the evil from your hearts so that you can be saved.

Don’t continue making evil plans.

15 A voice from Dan makes an announcement

and brings bad news from the mountains of Ephraim.

11 At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A hot wind from the bare heights in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to winnow, nor to cleanse; 12 a full wind from these shall come for me: now will I also utter judgments against them. 13 Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as the whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us! for we are ruined. 14 O Jerusalem, wash thy heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thine evil thoughts lodge within thee? 15 For a voice declareth from Dan, and publisheth evil from the hills of Ephraim.

11 At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A hot wind cometh from the heights in the wilderness, on the way of the daughter of my people, not for fanning, nor for cleansing. 12 A wind more vehement than that shall come from me: now will I also pronounce judgments against them. 13 Behold, he cometh up as clouds, and his chariots are as a whirlwind; his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us! for we are destroyed. 14 Wash thy heart, Jerusalem, from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee? 15 For a voice declareth from Dan, and publisheth affliction from mount Ephraim.

11 At that time it will be said to these people and to Jerusalem: 

“A hot wind from the heights will blow in the desert 

on the tracks of my people. 

It will not be a wind that winnowsor cleanses. 

12 It will be a stronger wind than that. 

It will come from me. 

Now, I will pass sentence on them.” 

13 The enemy comes up like clouds. 

His chariots are like a raging wind. 

His horses are faster than eagles. 

How horrible it will be for us! We will be destroyed! 

14 Jerusalem, wash the evil from your heart 

so that you may be rescued. 

Don’t continue making evil plans. 

15 A message is heard from Dan, 

and a report of disaster comes from the mountains of Ephraim. 

11 “At that time it will be said to this people and to Jerusalem, ‘A searing wind blows from the barren heights in the wilderness on the way to My dear people. It comes not to winnow or to sift; 12 a wind too strong for this comes at My call. Now I will also pronounce judgments against them.’ ”

13 Look, he advances like clouds;

his chariots are like a storm.

His horses are swifter than eagles.

Woe to us, for we are ruined!

14 Wash the evil from your heart, Jerusalem,

so that you will be delivered.

How long will you harbor

malicious thoughts within you?

15 For a voice announces from Dan,

proclaiming malice from Mount Ephraim.

11 At that time it will be said to this people and to Jerusalem: A hot wind comes from me out of the bare heights in the desert toward the daughter of my people, not to winnow or cleanse, 12 a wind too strong for that. Now it is I who speak in judgment against them.

13 Look! He comes up like clouds,

his chariots like the whirlwind;

his horses are swifter than eagles—

woe to us, for we are ruined!

14 O Jerusalem, wash your heart clean of wickedness

so that you may be saved.

How long shall your evil schemes

lodge within you?

15 For a voice declares from Dan

and proclaims disaster from Mount Ephraim.

11 At that time it will be said to this people and to Jerusalem,

“A hot wind from the barren heights in the desert,

in the direction of the daughter of my people,

not to winnow and not to cleanse,

12 a wind too strong for these will come for me,

now also I speak judgments against them.”

13 Look, he comes up like the clouds,

and his chariots are like the whirlwind,

his horses are swifter than eagles,

woe to us, for we are devastated.

14 Cleanse your heart from wickedness, O Jerusalem,

so that you may be saved.

How long will your thoughts of mischief

dwell in your inner part?

15 For a voice is declaring from Dan,

and is proclaiming disaster from the mountain of Ephraim.

11 At that time the people of Judah and Jerusalem will be warned. They will be told, “A hot and dry wind is coming, my people. It is blowing toward you from the bare hilltops in the desert. But it does not separate straw from grain. 12 It is much too strong for that. The wind is coming from me. I am making my decision against you.”

13 Look! Our enemies are approaching like the clouds.

Their chariots are coming like a strong wind.

Their horses are faster than eagles.

How terrible it will be for us!

We’ll be destroyed!

14 People of Jerusalem, wash your sins from your hearts and be saved.

How long will you hold on to your evil thoughts?

15 A voice is speaking all the way from the city of Dan.

From the hills of Ephraim it announces

that trouble is coming.

11 In that time it will be said to this people and to Jerusalem, “A scorching wind from the bare heights in the wilderness in the direction of the daughter of My people—not to winnow and not to cleanse,

12 a wind too strong for this—will come at My command; now I will also pronounce judgments against them.

13 “Behold, he goes up like clouds,

And his chariots like the whirlwind;

His horses are swifter than eagles.

Woe to us, for we are ruined!”

14 Wash your heart from evil, O Jerusalem,

That you may be saved.

How long will your wicked thoughts

Lodge within you?

15 For a voice declares from Dan,

And proclaims wickedness from Mount Ephraim.
