Isaiah 7:9–12

9 The head of Ephraim is Samaria,

and the head of Samaria is only Remaliah’s son.

If you do not stand firm in your faith,

you will not stand at all.’ ”

10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz, 11 “Ask the Lord your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.”

12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask; I will not put the Lord to the test.”

9 And the head of Ephraim is Samaria,

And the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son.

If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.

10 Moreover the Lord spake again unto Ahaz, saying,

11 Ask thee a sign of the Lord thy God;

Ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.

12 But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the Lord.

9 Israel is no stronger than its capital, Samaria,

and Samaria is no stronger than its king, Pekah son of Remaliah.

Unless your faith is firm,

I cannot make you stand firm.”

10 Later, the Lord sent this message to King Ahaz: 11 “Ask the Lord your God for a sign of confirmation, Ahaz. Make it as difficult as you want—as high as heaven or as deep as the place of the dead.”

12 But the king refused. “No,” he said, “I will not test the Lord like that.”

9 The head of Ephraim is Samaria,

And the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son.

If you will not believe,

Surely you shall not be established.” ’ ”

10 Moreover the Lord spoke again to Ahaz, saying, 11 “Ask a sign for yourself from the Lord your God; ask it either in the depth or in the height above.”

12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, nor will I test the Lord!”

9 Israel is led by the city of Samaria,

and Samaria is led by its weak king, the son of Remaliah.

If your faith is not strong,

you will not have strength enough to last.’ ”

10 Then the Lord spoke to Ahaz again, saying, 11 “Ask for a sign from the Lord your God to prove to yourself that these things are true. It may be a sign from as deep as the place of the dead or as high as the heavens.”

12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask for a sign or test the Lord.”

10 And Jehovah spoke again to Ahaz, saying, 11 Ask for thee a sign from Jehovah thy God; ask for it in the deep, or in the height above. 12 And Ahaz said, I will not ask, and will not tempt Jehovah.

9 The capital of Ephraim is Samaria, 

and the leader of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. 

If you don’t remain faithful, 

you won’t remain standing.” 

10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz, 11 “Ask the Lord your God for a sign. It can be anything you want.” 

12 But Ahaz answered, “I won’t ask; I wouldn’t think of testing the Lord.”

10 Then the Lord spoke again to Ahaz: 11 “Ask for a sign from the Lord your God—from the depths of Sheol to the heights of heaven.”

12 But Ahaz replied, “I will not ask. I will not test the Lord.”

If you do not stand firm in faith,

you shall not stand at all.”

10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz, saying, 11 “Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” 12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.”

9 And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you do not believe then you will not endure.” ’ ”

10 And Yahweh continued to speak to Ahaz, saying, 11 “Ask for a sign for yourself from Yahweh God; make it deep as Sheol or make it high as above.” 12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put Yahweh to the test.”

you will not stand at all.” ’ ”

10 The Lord spoke to Ahaz through me again. He said, 11 “I am the Lord your God. Ask me to give you a miraculous sign. It can be anything in the deepest grave or in the highest heaven.”

12 But Ahaz said, “I won’t ask. I won’t put the Lord to the test.”

9 and the head of Ephraim is Samaria and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you will not believe, you surely shall not last.” ’ ”

10 Then the Lord spoke again to Ahaz, saying,

11 “Ask a sign for yourself from the Lord your God; make it deep as Sheol or high as heaven.”

12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, nor will I test the Lord!”
