Come, all you beasts of the field,

come and devour, all you beasts of the forest!

10 Israel’s watchmen are blind,

they all lack knowledge;

they are all mute dogs,

they cannot bark;

they lie around and dream,

they love to sleep.

11 They are dogs with mighty appetites;

they never have enough.

They are shepherds who lack understanding;

they all turn to their own way,

they seek their own gain.

Isaiah 56:9–11 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

All ye beasts of the field, come to devour,

Yea, all ye beasts in the forest.

10 His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant,

They are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark;

Sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.

11 Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough,

And they are shepherds that cannot understand:

They all look to their own way,

Every one for his gain, from his quarter.

Isaiah 56:9–11 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Come, wild animals of the field!

Come, wild animals of the forest!

Come and devour my people!

10 For the leaders of my people—

the Lord’s watchmen, his shepherds—

are blind and ignorant.

They are like silent watchdogs

that give no warning when danger comes.

They love to lie around, sleeping and dreaming.

11 Like greedy dogs, they are never satisfied.

They are ignorant shepherds,

all following their own path

and intent on personal gain.

Isaiah 56:9–11 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

All you beasts of the field, come to devour,

All you beasts in the forest.

10 His watchmen are blind,

They are all ignorant;

They are all dumb dogs,

They cannot bark;

Sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.

11 Yes, they are greedy dogs

Which never have enough.

And they are shepherds

Who cannot understand;

They all look to their own way,

Every one for his own gain,

From his own territory.

Isaiah 56:9–11 — New Century Version (NCV)

All you animals of the field,

all you animals of the forest, come to eat.

10 The leaders who are to guard the people are blind;

they don’t know what they are doing.

All of them are like quiet dogs

that don’t know how to bark.

They lie down and dream

and love to sleep.

11 They are like hungry dogs

that are never satisfied.

They are like shepherds

who don’t know what they are doing.

They all have gone their own way;

all they want to do is satisfy themselves.

Isaiah 56:9–11 — American Standard Version (ASV)

All ye beasts of the field, come to devour, yea, all ye beasts in the forest. 10 His watchmen are blind, they are all without knowledge; they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber. 11 Yea, the dogs are greedy, they can never have enough; and these are shepherds that cannot understand: they have all turned to their own way, each one to his gain, from every quarter.

Isaiah 56:9–11 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

All you animals in the field,

all you animals in the forest,

come and eat.

10 ⸤Israel’s⸥ watchmen are blind.

None of them know anything.

All of them are like dogs that are unable to bark.

They lie around dreaming; they love to sleep.

11 These dogs have huge appetites.

They are never full.

They are the shepherds,

but they don’t understand.

All of them have turned to go their own ways.

Each one seeks his own gain.

11 These dogs have fierce appetites;

they never have enough.

And they are shepherds

who have no discernment;

all of them turn to their own way,

every last one for his own gain.

none of them know.

They are all dumb dogs;

they are unable to bark,

panting, lying down,

loving to slumber.

11 And the dogs have a greedy appetite;

they are never satisfied.

And they are the shepherds!

They do not have understanding.

They all turn to their own way,

each one for his own gain, every one of them.

Come and destroy like animals in the forest.

They don’t know the Lord.

All of them are like watchdogs that can’t even bark.

They just lie around and dream.

They love to sleep.

11 They are like dogs that love to eat.

They never get enough.

They are like shepherds who don’t have any understanding.

All of them do as they please.

They only look for what they can get for themselves.

Isaiah 56:9–11 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

All you beasts of the field,

All you beasts in the forest,

Come to eat.

10 His watchmen are blind,

All of them know nothing.

All of them are mute dogs unable to bark,

Dreamers lying down, who love to slumber;

11 And the dogs are greedy, they are not satisfied.

And they are shepherds who have no understanding;

They have all turned to their own way,

Each one to his unjust gain, to the last one.
