Isaiah 5:27–30 — The New International Version (NIV)

27 Not one of them grows tired or stumbles,

not one slumbers or sleeps;

not a belt is loosened at the waist,

not a sandal strap is broken.

28 Their arrows are sharp,

all their bows are strung;

their horses’ hooves seem like flint,

their chariot wheels like a whirlwind.

29 Their roar is like that of the lion,

they roar like young lions;

they growl as they seize their prey

and carry it off with no one to rescue.

30 In that day they will roar over it

like the roaring of the sea.

And if one looks at the land,

there is only darkness and distress;

even the sun will be darkened by clouds.

Isaiah 5:27–30 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

27 None shall be weary nor stumble among them;

None shall slumber nor sleep;

Neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed,

Nor the latchet of their shoes be broken:

28 Whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent,

Their horses’ hoofs shall be counted like flint,

And their wheels like a whirlwind:

29 Their roaring shall be like a lion,

They shall roar like young lions:

Yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey,

And shall carry it away safe, and none shall deliver it.

30 And in that day they shall roar against them like the roaring of the sea:

And if one look unto the land, behold darkness and sorrow,

And the light is darkened in the heavens thereof.

Isaiah 5:27–30 — New Living Translation (NLT)

27 They will not get tired or stumble.

They will not stop for rest or sleep.

Not a belt will be loose,

not a sandal strap broken.

28 Their arrows will be sharp

and their bows ready for battle.

Sparks will fly from their horses’ hooves,

and the wheels of their chariots will spin like a whirlwind.

29 They will roar like lions,

like the strongest of lions.

Growling, they will pounce on their victims and carry them off,

and no one will be there to rescue them.

30 They will roar over their victims on that day of destruction

like the roaring of the sea.

If someone looks across the land,

only darkness and distress will be seen;

even the light will be darkened by clouds.

Isaiah 5:27–30 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

27 No one will be weary or stumble among them,

No one will slumber or sleep;

Nor will the belt on their loins be loosed,

Nor the strap of their sandals be broken;

28 Whose arrows are sharp,

And all their bows bent;

Their horses’ hooves will seem like flint,

And their wheels like a whirlwind.

29 Their roaring will be like a lion,

They will roar like young lions;

Yes, they will roar

And lay hold of the prey;

They will carry it away safely,

And no one will deliver.

30 In that day they will roar against them

Like the roaring of the sea.

And if one looks to the land,

Behold, darkness and sorrow;

And the light is darkened by the clouds.

Isaiah 5:27–30 — New Century Version (NCV)

27 Not one of them becomes tired or falls down.

Not one of them gets sleepy and falls asleep.

Their weapons are close at hand,

and their sandal straps are not broken.

28 Their arrows are sharp,

and all of their bows are ready to shoot.

The horses’ hoofs are hard as rocks,

and their chariot wheels move like a whirlwind.

29 Their shout is like the roar of a lion;

it is loud like a young lion.

They growl as they grab their captives.

There is no one to stop them from taking their captives away.

30 On that day they will roar

like the waves of the sea.

And when people look at the land,

they will see only darkness and pain;

all light will become dark in this thick cloud.

Isaiah 5:27–30 — American Standard Version (ASV)

27 None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken: 28 whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent; their horses’ hoofs shall be accounted as flint, and their wheels as a whirlwind: 29 their roaring shall be like a lioness, they shall roar like young lions; yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and carry it away safe, and there shall be none to deliver. 30 And they shall roar against them in that day like the roaring of the sea: and if one look unto the land, behold, darkness and distress; and the light is darkened in the clouds thereof.

Isaiah 5:27–30 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

27 None among them is weary, none stumbleth; they slumber not, nor sleep; none hath the girdle of his loins loosed, nor the thong of his sandals broken; 28 their arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent; their horses’ hoofs are reckoned as the flint, and their wheels as a whirlwind. 29 Their roaring is like a lioness, they roar as the young lions; yea, they growl, and snatch the prey, and carry it away safe, and there is none to deliver; 30 and they shall roar against them in that day like the roaring of the sea. And if one look upon the earth, behold darkness and distress, and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof.

Isaiah 5:27–30 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

27 None of them grow tired or stumble.

None of them slumber or sleep.

The belts on their waists aren’t loose

or their sandal straps broken.

28 Their arrows are sharpened; all their bows are ready to shoot.

Their horses’ hoofs are as hard as flint.

Their chariot wheels are as quick as the wind.

29 They roar like a lioness.

They growl like a young lion.

They growl as they snatch their prey

and carry it off to where no one can rescue it.

30 On that day they will roar over their prey

as the sea roars.

If they look at the land,

they will see only darkness and distress.

Even the light will be darkened by thick clouds.

Isaiah 5:27–30 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

27 None of them grows weary or stumbles;

no one slumbers or sleeps.

No belt is loose

and no sandal strap broken.

28 Their arrows are sharpened,

and all their bows strung.

Their horses’ hooves are like flint;

their chariot wheels are like a whirlwind.

29 Their roaring is like a lion’s;

they roar like young lions;

they growl and seize their prey

and carry it off,

and no one can rescue it.

30 On that day they will roar over it,

like the roaring of the sea.

When one looks at the land,

there will be darkness and distress;

light will be obscured by clouds.

Isaiah 5:27–30 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

27 None of them is weary, none stumbles,

none slumbers or sleeps,

not a loincloth is loose,

not a sandal-thong broken;

28 their arrows are sharp,

all their bows bent,

their horses’ hoofs seem like flint,

and their wheels like the whirlwind.

29 Their roaring is like a lion,

like young lions they roar;

they growl and seize their prey,

they carry it off, and no one can rescue.

30 They will roar over it on that day,

like the roaring of the sea.

And if one look to the land—

only darkness and distress;

and the light grows dark with clouds.

Isaiah 5:27–30 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

27 None is weary,

and none among him stumbles;

none slumbers and none sleeps.

And no loincloth on his waist is opened,

and no thong of his sandals is drawn away.

28 Whose arrows are sharp,

and all of his bows are bent.

The hoofs of his horses are reckoned like flint,

and his wheels like the storm wind.

29 His roaring is like the lion,

and he roars like young lions.

And he growls and seizes his prey,

and he carries it off,

and not one can rescue it.

30 And he will roar over him on that day

like the roaring of the sea,

and if one looks to the land, look! Darkness! Distress!

And the light grows dark with its clouds.

Isaiah 5:27–30 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

27 None of them grows tired.

None of them falls down.

None of them sleeps or even takes a nap.

All of them are ready for battle.

Every belt is pulled tight.

Not a single sandal strap is broken.

28 The enemies’ arrows are sharp.

All of their bows are ready.

The hoofs of their horses are as hard as rock.

Their chariot wheels turn like a twister.

29 The sound of their army is like the roar of lions.

It’s like the roar of young lions.

They growl as they capture what they were chasing.

They carry it off.

No one can take it away from them.

30 At that time the enemy army will roar over Israel.

It will sound like the roaring of the ocean.

If someone looks at the land of Israel,

he will see darkness and trouble.

The clouds will make even the light become dark.

Isaiah 5:27–30 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

27 No one in it is weary or stumbles,

None slumbers or sleeps;

Nor is the belt at its waist undone,

Nor its sandal strap broken.

28 Its arrows are sharp and all its bows are bent;

The hoofs of its horses seem like flint and its chariot wheels like a whirlwind.

29 Its roaring is like a lioness, and it roars like young lions;

It growls as it seizes the prey

And carries it off with no one to deliver it.

30 And it will growl over it in that day like the roaring of the sea.

If one looks to the land, behold, there is darkness and distress;

Even the light is darkened by its clouds.
