Isaiah 48:2–3

2 you who call yourselves citizens of the holy city

and claim to rely on the God of Israel—

the Lord Almighty is his name:

3 I foretold the former things long ago,

my mouth announced them and I made them known;

then suddenly I acted, and they came to pass.

2 For they call themselves of the holy city,

And stay themselves upon the God of Israel;

The Lord of hosts is his name.

3 I have declared the former things from the beginning;

And they went forth out of my mouth, and I shewed them;

I did them suddenly, and they came to pass.

2 even though you call yourself the holy city

and talk about depending on the God of Israel,

whose name is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

3 Long ago I told you what was going to happen.

Then suddenly I took action,

and all my predictions came true.

2 For they call themselves after the holy city,

And lean on the God of Israel;

The Lord of hosts is His name:

3 “I have declared the former things from the beginning;

They went forth from My mouth, and I caused them to hear it.

Suddenly I did them, and they came to pass.

2 You call yourselves people of the holy city,

and you depend on the God of Israel,

who is named the Lord All-Powerful.

3 Long ago I told you what would happen.

I said these things and made them known;

suddenly I acted, and these things happened.

2 (for they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the God of Israel; Jehovah of hosts is his name): 3 I have declared the former things from of old; yea, they went forth out of my mouth, and I showed them: suddenly I did them, and they came to pass.

2 For they are named after the holy city, and stay themselves upon the God of Israel: Jehovah of hosts is his name. 3 I have declared the former things long ago; and they went forth out of my mouth, and I caused them to be heard: I wrought suddenly, and they came to pass.

2 You call yourselves ⸤citizens⸥ of the holy city. 

You depend on the God of Israel. 

His name is the Lord of Armies. 

3 From the beginning I revealed to you what would happen. 

These words came out of my mouth, 

and I made them known. 

Suddenly, I acted, and they happened. 

2 For they are named after the Holy City,

and lean on the God of Israel;

His name is Yahweh of Hosts.

3 I declared the past events long ago;

they came out of My mouth; I proclaimed them.

Suddenly I acted, and they occurred.

2 For they call themselves after the holy city

and lean on the God of Israel;

the Lord of hosts is his name.

3 The former things I declared long ago;

they went out from my mouth, and I made them known;

then suddenly I did them, and they came to pass.

2 For they call themselves after the holy city,

and they lean on the God of Israel—

Yahweh of hosts is his name.

3 “I declared the former things from of old,

and they went out from my mouth.

And I announced them suddenly;

I acted, and they came to pass,

2 You call yourselves citizens of the holy city of Jerusalem.

You say you depend on Israel’s God.

His name is The Lord Who Rules Over All. He says,

3 “Long ago I told you ahead of time what would happen.

I announced it and made it known.

Then all of a sudden I acted.

And those things took place.

2 “For they call themselves after the holy city

And lean on the God of Israel;

The Lord of hosts is His name.

3 “I declared the former things long ago

And they went forth from My mouth, and I proclaimed them.

Suddenly I acted, and they came to pass.
