Isaiah 33:7–9 — The New International Version (NIV)

Look, their brave men cry aloud in the streets;

the envoys of peace weep bitterly.

The highways are deserted,

no travelers are on the roads.

The treaty is broken,

its witnesses are despised,

no one is respected.

The land dries up and wastes away,

Lebanon is ashamed and withers;

Sharon is like the Arabah,

and Bashan and Carmel drop their leaves.

Isaiah 33:7–9 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Behold, their valiant ones shall cry without:

The ambassadors of peace shall weep bitterly.

The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth:

He hath broken the covenant,

He hath despised the cities, he regardeth no man.

The earth mourneth and languisheth:

Lebanon is ashamed and hewn down:

Sharon is like a wilderness;

And Bashan and Carmel shake off their fruits.

Isaiah 33:7–9 — New Living Translation (NLT)

But now your brave warriors weep in public.

Your ambassadors of peace cry in bitter disappointment.

Your roads are deserted;

no one travels them anymore.

The Assyrians have broken their peace treaty

and care nothing for the promises they made before witnesses.

They have no respect for anyone.

The land of Israel wilts in mourning.

Lebanon withers with shame.

The plain of Sharon is now a wilderness.

Bashan and Carmel have been plundered.

Isaiah 33:7–9 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

Surely their valiant ones shall cry outside,

The ambassadors of peace shall weep bitterly.

The highways lie waste,

The traveling man ceases.

He has broken the covenant,

He has despised the cities,

He regards no man.

The earth mourns and languishes,

Lebanon is shamed and shriveled;

Sharon is like a wilderness,

And Bashan and Carmel shake off their fruits.

Isaiah 33:7–9 — New Century Version (NCV)

See, brave people are crying out in the streets;

those who tried to bring peace are weeping loudly.

There is no one on the roads,

no one walking in the paths.

People have broken the agreements they made.

They refuse to believe the proof from witnesses.

No one respects other people.

The land is sick and dying;

Lebanon is ashamed and dying.

The Plain of Sharon is dry like the desert,

and the trees of Bashan and Carmel are dying.

Isaiah 33:7–9 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Behold, their valiant ones cry without; the ambassadors of peace weep bitterly. The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth: the enemy hath broken the covenant, he hath despised the cities, he regardeth not man. The land mourneth and languisheth; Lebanon is confounded and withereth away; Sharon is like a desert; and Bashan and Carmel shake off their leaves.

Isaiah 33:7–9 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Behold, their valiant ones cry without; the messengers of peace weep bitterly. The highways are desolate, the wayfaring man ceaseth. He hath broken the covenant, he hath despised the cities, he regardeth no man. The land mourneth, it languisheth; Lebanon is ashamed, is withered; the Sharon is become as a desert, and Bashan and Carmel are stripped.

Sharon has become like a wilderness.

Bashan and Carmel are shaken.

Isaiah 33:7–9 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Listen! Their warriors cry loudly in the streets;

the messengers of peace weep bitterly.

The highways are deserted;

travel has ceased.

An agreement has been broken,

cities despised,

and human life disregarded.

The land mourns and withers;

Lebanon is ashamed and decayed.

Sharon is like a desert;

Bashan and Carmel shake off their leaves.

Isaiah 33:7–9 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

travelers have quit the road.

its oaths are despised,

its obligation is disregarded.

The land mourns and languishes;

Lebanon is confounded and withers away;

Sharon is like a desert;

and Bashan and Carmel shake off their leaves.

Isaiah 33:7–9 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

Look! Their heroes cry out in the street;

the messengers of peace weep bitterly.

Highways are deserted;

the traveler on the road ceases.

One breaks a treaty,

he rejects the cities,

he does not hold man in high regard.

The land mourns; it languishes.

Lebanon feels abashed; it withers.

Sharon is like the desert,

and Bashan and Carmel are losing their leaves.

Isaiah 33:7–9 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Look! Judah’s brave men cry out loud in the streets.

The messengers who were sent to bring peace sob bitter tears.

The wide roads are deserted.

No one travels on them.

Our peace treaty with Assyria is broken.

Those who witnessed it are looked down on.

No one is respected.

The land is filled with sadness and wastes away.

Lebanon is full of shame and dries up.

The rich land of Sharon is like the Arabah Desert.

The trees of Bashan and Carmel drop their leaves.

Isaiah 33:7–9 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

Behold, their brave men cry in the streets,

The ambassadors of peace weep bitterly.

The highways are desolate, the traveler has ceased,

He has broken the covenant, he has despised the cities,

He has no regard for man.

The land mourns and pines away,

Lebanon is shamed and withers;

Sharon is like a desert plain,

And Bashan and Carmel lose their foliage.
