Isaiah 30:29–33 — The New International Version (NIV)

29 And you will sing

as on the night you celebrate a holy festival;

your hearts will rejoice

as when people playing pipes go up

to the mountain of the Lord,

to the Rock of Israel.

30 The Lord will cause people to hear his majestic voice

and will make them see his arm coming down

with raging anger and consuming fire,

with cloudburst, thunderstorm and hail.

31 The voice of the Lord will shatter Assyria;

with his rod he will strike them down.

32 Every stroke the Lord lays on them

with his punishing club

will be to the music of timbrels and harps,

as he fights them in battle with the blows of his arm.

33 Topheth has long been prepared;

it has been made ready for the king.

Its fire pit has been made deep and wide,

with an abundance of fire and wood;

the breath of the Lord,

like a stream of burning sulfur,

sets it ablaze.

Isaiah 30:29–33 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

29 Ye shall have a song, as in the night when a holy solemnity is kept;

And gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe

To come into the mountain of the Lord, to the mighty One of Israel.

30 And the Lord shall cause his glorious voice to be heard,

And shall shew the lighting down of his arm,

With the indignation of his anger,

And with the flame of a devouring fire,

With scattering, and tempest, and hailstones.

31 For through the voice of the Lord shall the Assyrian be beaten down,

Which smote with a rod.

32 And in every place where the grounded staff shall pass,

Which the Lord shall lay upon him,

It shall be with tabrets and harps:

And in battles of shaking will he fight with it.

33 For Tophet is ordained of old;

Yea, for the king it is prepared;

He hath made it deep and large:

The pile thereof is fire and much wood;

The breath of the Lord, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it.

Isaiah 30:29–33 — New Living Translation (NLT)

29 But the people of God will sing a song of joy,

like the songs at the holy festivals.

You will be filled with joy,

as when a flutist leads a group of pilgrims

to Jerusalem, the mountain of the Lord

to the Rock of Israel.

30 And the Lord will make his majestic voice heard.

He will display the strength of his mighty arm.

It will descend with devouring flames,

with cloudbursts, thunderstorms, and huge hailstones.

31 At the Lord’s command, the Assyrians will be shattered.

He will strike them down with his royal scepter.

32 And as the Lord strikes them with his rod of punishment,

his people will celebrate with tambourines and harps.

Lifting his mighty arm, he will fight the Assyrians.

33 Topheth—the place of burning—

has long been ready for the Assyrian king;

the pyre is piled high with wood.

The breath of the Lord, like fire from a volcano,

will set it ablaze.

Isaiah 30:29–33 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

29 You shall have a song

As in the night when a holy festival is kept,

And gladness of heart as when one goes with a flute,

To come into the mountain of the Lord,

To the Mighty One of Israel.

30 The Lord will cause His glorious voice to be heard,

And show the descent of His arm,

With the indignation of His anger

And the flame of a devouring fire,

With scattering, tempest, and hailstones.

31 For through the voice of the Lord

Assyria will be beaten down,

As He strikes with the rod.

32 And in every place where the staff of punishment passes,

Which the Lord lays on him,

It will be with tambourines and harps;

And in battles of brandishing He will fight with it.

33 For Tophet was established of old,

Yes, for the king it is prepared.

He has made it deep and large;

Its pyre is fire with much wood;

The breath of the Lord, like a stream of brimstone,

Kindles it.

Isaiah 30:29–33 — New Century Version (NCV)

29 You will sing happy songs

as on the nights you begin a festival.

You will be happy like people listening to flutes

as they come to the mountain of the Lord,

to the Rock of Israel.

30 The Lord will cause all people to hear his great voice

and to see his powerful arm come down with anger,

like a great fire that burns everything,

like a great storm with much rain and hail.

31 Assyria will be afraid when it hears the voice of the Lord,

because he will strike Assyria with a rod.

32 When the Lord punishes Assyria with a rod,

he will beat them to the music of tambourines and harps;

he will fight against them with his mighty weapons.

33 Topheth has been made ready for a long time;

it is ready for the king.

It was made deep and wide

with much wood and fire.

And the Lord’s breath will come

like a stream of burning sulfur and set it on fire.

Isaiah 30:29–33 — American Standard Version (ASV)

29 Ye shall have a song as in the night when a holy feast is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe to come unto the mountain of Jehovah, to the Rock of Israel. 30 And Jehovah will cause his glorious voice to be heard, and will show the lighting down of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and the flame of a devouring fire, with a blast, and tempest, and hailstones. 31 For through the voice of Jehovah shall the Assyrian be dismayed; with his rod will he smite him. 32 And every stroke of the appointed staff, which Jehovah shall lay upon him, shall be with the sound of tabrets and harps; and in battles with the brandishing of his arm will he fight with them. 33 For a Topheth is prepared of old; yea, for the king it is made ready; he hath made it deep and large; the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of Jehovah, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it.

Isaiah 30:29–33 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

29 Ye shall have a song, as in the night when a feast is sanctified; and joy of heart, as of one who goeth with a pipe to come unto the mountain of Jehovah, to the Rock of Israel. 30 And Jehovah will cause the majesty of his voice to be heard, and will shew the lighting down of his arm with indignation of anger, and a flame of consuming fire, with waterflood and storm and hailstones. 31 For through the voice of Jehovah shall the Assyrian be broken down: he will smite him with the rod. 32 And wherever shall pass the appointed staff, which Jehovah shall lay upon him, it shall be with tambours and harps; and with tumultuous battles will he fight with it. 33 For Topheth is prepared of old; for the king also it is prepared: he hath made it deep and large; its pile is fire and much wood; the breath of Jehovah, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it.

Isaiah 30:29–33 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

29 You will sing a song

like the song you sing on a festival night.

Your hearts will be happy like someone going out with a flute

on the way to the Lord’s mountain, to the rock of Israel.

30 The Lord will make his majestic voice heard.

He will come down with all his might,

with furious anger,

with fire storms, windstorms, rainstorms, and hailstones.

31 At the sound of the Lord, the people of Assyria will be shattered.

He will strike them with his rod.

32 To the sound of tambourines and lyres, the Lord will pound on them.

He will fight them in battle, swinging his fists.

33 Topheth was prepared long ago.

It was made ready for the king.

It was made deep and wide and piled high with plenty of burning logs.

The Lord’s breath will be like a flood of burning sulfur,

setting it on fire.

Isaiah 30:29–33 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

29 Your singing will be like that

on the night of a holy festival,

and your heart will rejoice

like one who walks to the music of a flute,

going up to the mountain of the Lord,

to the Rock of Israel.

30 And the Lord will make the splendor of His voice heard

and reveal His arm striking in angry wrath

and a flame of consuming fire,

in driving rain, a torrent, and hailstones.

31 Assyria will be shattered by the voice of the Lord.

He will strike with a rod.

32 And every stroke of the appointed staff

that the Lord brings down on him

will be to the sound of tambourines and lyres;

He will fight against him with brandished weapons.

33 Indeed! Topheth has been ready

for the king for a long time now.

Its funeral pyre is deep and wide,

with plenty of fire and wood.

The breath of the Lord, like a torrent of brimstone,

kindles it.

Isaiah 30:29–33 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

29 You shall have a song as in the night when a holy festival is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one sets out to the sound of the flute to go to the mountain of the Lord, to the Rock of Israel. 30 And the Lord will cause his majestic voice to be heard and the descending blow of his arm to be seen, in furious anger and a flame of devouring fire, with a cloudburst and tempest and hailstones. 31 The Assyrian will be terror-stricken at the voice of the Lord, when he strikes with his rod. 32 And every stroke of the staff of punishment that the Lord lays upon him will be to the sound of timbrels and lyres; battling with brandished arm he will fight with him. 33 For his burning place has long been prepared; truly it is made ready for the king, its pyre made deep and wide, with fire and wood in abundance; the breath of the Lord, like a stream of sulfur, kindles it.

Isaiah 30:29–33 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

29 You shall have a song as in the night when a holy festival is kept,

and a gladness of heart like one who goes with the flute,

to go to the mountain of Yahweh, to the rock of Israel.

30 And Yahweh will cause the majesty of his voice to be heard,

and he will cause the descent of his arm to be seen,

in furious anger and a flame of devouring fire,

with a cloudburst and a rainstorm and stones of hail.

31 Indeed, Assyria will be shattered by the voice of Yahweh;

he strikes with the rod.

32 And every stroke of the staff of foundation that Yahweh lays will be on it with timbrels and lyres,

and he will fight against it with battles of brandishing.

33 For Topheth has been prepared from yesterday;

indeed, it is made ready for the king.

He makes its pile of wood deep and wide;

he makes fire and wood abundant.

The breath of Yahweh burns in it like a stream of sulfur.

Isaiah 30:29–33 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

29 You will sing

as you do on the night you celebrate a holy feast.

Your hearts will be filled with joy.

You will be as joyful as people playing their flutes

as they go up to the mountain of the Lord.

He is the Rock of Israel.

30 The Lord will cause people to hear his powerful voice.

He will make them see his arm coming down to punish them.

It will come down with burning anger and destroying fire.

It will come down with rain, thunderstorms and hail.

31 The voice of the Lord will tear the Assyrians apart.

He will strike them down with his mighty rod.

32 He will strike them

with his rod to punish them.

Each time he does, his people will celebrate

with the music of harps and tambourines.

He will use his powerful arm

to strike the Assyrians down in battle.

33 In the Valley of Ben Hinnom, Topheth has been prepared for a long time.

It has been made ready for the king of Assyria.

Its fire pit has been made deep and wide.

It has plenty of wood for the fire.

The breath of the Lord

will be like a stream of burning sulfur.

It will set the wood on fire.

Isaiah 30:29–33 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

29 You will have songs as in the night when you keep the festival,

And gladness of heart as when one marches to the sound of the flute,

To go to the mountain of the Lord, to the Rock of Israel.

30 And the Lord will cause His voice of authority to be heard,

And the descending of His arm to be seen in fierce anger,

And in the flame of a consuming fire

In cloudburst, downpour and hailstones.

31 For at the voice of the Lord Assyria will be terrified,

When He strikes with the rod.

32 And every blow of the rod of punishment,

Which the Lord will lay on him,

Will be with the music of tambourines and lyres;

And in battles, brandishing weapons, He will fight them.

33 For Topheth has long been ready,

Indeed, it has been prepared for the king.

He has made it deep and large,

A pyre of fire with plenty of wood;

The breath of the Lord, like a torrent of brimstone, sets it afire.
