Isaiah 24:2–4

2 it will be the same

for priest as for people,

for the master as for his servant,

for the mistress as for her servant,

for seller as for buyer,

for borrower as for lender,

for debtor as for creditor.

3 The earth will be completely laid waste

and totally plundered.

The Lord has spoken this word.

4 The earth dries up and withers,

the world languishes and withers,

the heavens languish with the earth.

2 And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest;

As with the servant, so with his master;

As with the maid, so with her mistress;

As with the buyer, so with the seller;

As with the lender, so with the borrower;

As with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him.

3 The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled:

For the Lord hath spoken this word.

4 The earth mourneth and fadeth away,

The world languisheth and fadeth away,

The haughty people of the earth do languish.

2 Priests and laypeople,

servants and masters,

maids and mistresses,

buyers and sellers,

lenders and borrowers,

bankers and debtors—none will be spared.

3 The earth will be completely emptied and looted.

The Lord has spoken!

4 The earth mourns and dries up,

and the land wastes away and withers.

Even the greatest people on earth waste away.

2 And it shall be:

As with the people, so with the priest;

As with the servant, so with his master;

As with the maid, so with her mistress;

As with the buyer, so with the seller;

As with the lender, so with the borrower;

As with the creditor, so with the debtor.

3 The land shall be entirely emptied and utterly plundered,

For the Lord has spoken this word.

4 The earth mourns and fades away,

The world languishes and fades away;

The haughty people of the earth languish.

2 At that time the same thing will happen to everyone:

to common people and priests,

to slaves and masters,

to women slaves and their women masters,

to buyers and sellers,

to those who borrow and those who lend,

to bankers and those who owe the bank.

3 The earth will be completely empty.

The wealth will all be taken,

because the Lord has commanded it.

4 The earth will dry up and die;

the world will grow weak and die;

the great leaders in this land will become weak.

2 And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the creditor, so with the debtor; as with the taker of interest, so with the giver of interest to him. 3 The earth shall be utterly emptied, and utterly laid waste; for Jehovah hath spoken this word. 4 The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the lofty people of the earth do languish.

2 And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with him from whom usury is taken. 3 The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled; for Jehovah hath spoken this word. 4 The land mourneth, it fadeth away; the world languisheth, it fadeth away: the haughty people of the land do languish.

2 The same will happen to people and priests, 

male slaves and masters, 

female slaves and masters, 

buyers and sellers, 

lenders and borrowers, 

debtors and creditors. 

3 The earth will be completely laid waste and stripped 

because the Lord has spoken. 

4 The earth dries up and withers. 

The world wastes away and withers. 

The great leaders of the earth waste away. 

2 people and priest alike,

servant and master,

female servant and mistress,

buyer and seller,

lender and borrower,

creditor and debtor.

3 The earth will be stripped completely bare

and will be totally plundered,

for the Lord has spoken this message.

4 The earth mourns and withers;

the world wastes away and withers;

the exalted people of the earth waste away.

2 And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest;

as with the male slave, so with his master;

as with the female slave, so with her mistress;

as with the buyer, so with the seller;

as with the lender, so with the borrower;

as with the creditor, so with the debtor.

3 The earth shall be utterly laid waste and utterly despoiled,

for the Lord has spoken this word.

4 The earth dries up and withers;

the world languishes and withers;

the heavens languish together with the earth.

2 And it shall be as with the people, so with the priest;

as with the slave, so with his master;

as with the female slave, so with her mistress;

as with the buyer, so with the seller;

as with the lender, so with the borrower;

as with the creditor, so with the one to whom he lends.

3 The earth shall be utterly laid waste,

and it shall be utterly plundered,

for Yahweh has spoken this word.

4 The earth dries up, it withers;

the world languishes, it withers.

The elevated of the people of the earth languish,

2 Priests and people alike will suffer.

So will masters and their servants.

And so will women and their female servants.

Sellers and buyers alike will suffer.

So will those who borrow and those who lend.

And so will those who owe money and those who lend it.

3 The earth will be completely destroyed.

Everything of value will be taken out of it.

That’s what the Lord has said.

4 The earth will dry up completely.

The world will dry up and waste away.

The most important people on earth will fade away.

2 And the people will be like the priest, the servant like his master, the maid like her mistress, the buyer like the seller, the lender like the borrower, the creditor like the debtor.

3 The earth will be completely laid waste and completely despoiled, for the Lord has spoken this word.

4 The earth mourns and withers, the world fades and withers, the exalted of the people of the earth fade away.
