Isaiah 13:6–9 — The New International Version (NIV)

Wail, for the day of the Lord is near;

it will come like destruction from the Almighty.

Because of this, all hands will go limp,

every heart will melt with fear.

Terror will seize them,

pain and anguish will grip them;

they will writhe like a woman in labor.

They will look aghast at each other,

their faces aflame.

See, the day of the Lord is coming

—a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger—

to make the land desolate

and destroy the sinners within it.

Isaiah 13:6–9 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Howl ye; for the day of the Lord is at hand;

It shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.

Therefore shall all hands be faint,

And every man’s heart shall melt:

And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them;

They shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth:

They shall be amazed one at another;

Their faces shall be as flames.

Behold, the day of the Lord cometh,

Cruel both with wrath and fierce anger,

To lay the land desolate:

And he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

Isaiah 13:6–9 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Scream in terror, for the day of the Lord has arrived—

the time for the Almighty to destroy.

Every arm is paralyzed with fear.

Every heart melts,

and people are terrified.

Pangs of anguish grip them,

like those of a woman in labor.

They look helplessly at one another,

their faces aflame with fear.

For see, the day of the Lord is coming—

the terrible day of his fury and fierce anger.

The land will be made desolate,

and all the sinners destroyed with it.

Isaiah 13:6–9 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

Wail, for the day of the Lord is at hand!

It will come as destruction from the Almighty.

Therefore all hands will be limp,

Every man’s heart will melt,

And they will be afraid.

Pangs and sorrows will take hold of them;

They will be in pain as a woman in childbirth;

They will be amazed at one another;

Their faces will be like flames.

Behold, the day of the Lord comes,

Cruel, with both wrath and fierce anger,

To lay the land desolate;

And He will destroy its sinners from it.

Isaiah 13:6–9 — New Century Version (NCV)

Cry, because the Lord’s day of judging is near;

the Almighty is sending destruction.

People will be weak with fear,

and their courage will melt away.

Everyone will be afraid.

Pain and hurt will grab them;

they will hurt like a woman giving birth to a baby.

They will look at each other in fear,

with their faces red like fire.

Look, the Lord’s day of judging is coming—

a terrible day, a day of God’s anger.

He will destroy the land

and the sinners who live in it.

Isaiah 13:6–9 — American Standard Version (ASV 1901)

Wail ye; for the day of Jehovah is at hand; as destruction from the Almighty shall it come. Therefore shall all hands be feeble, and every heart of man shall melt: and they shall be dismayed; pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman in travail: they shall look in amazement one at another; their faces shall be faces of flame. Behold, the day of Jehovah cometh, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger; to make the land a desolation, and to destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

Isaiah 13:6–9 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Howl, for the day of Jehovah is at hand; it cometh as destruction from the Almighty. Therefore shall all hands be feeble, and every heart of man shall melt, and they shall be terrified: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them, they shall writhe as a woman that travaileth; they shall be amazed one at another, their faces shall be as flames. Behold, the day of Jehovah cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the earth desolate; and he will destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

It will come like destruction from the Almighty.

That is why every hand will hang limp,

They’ll be terrified.

Pain and anguish will seize them.

They’ll writhe like a woman giving birth to a child.

They’ll look at one another in astonishment.

Their faces will be burning red.

The day of the Lord is going to come.

It will be a cruel day with fury and fierce anger.

He will make the earth desolate.

They will stare at one another,

their faces flushing.
