Ezekiel 32:2–5

2 “Son of man, take up a lament concerning Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him:

“ ‘You are like a lion among the nations;

you are like a monster in the seas

thrashing about in your streams,

churning the water with your feet

and muddying the streams.

3 “ ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“ ‘With a great throng of people

I will cast my net over you,

and they will haul you up in my net.

4 I will throw you on the land

and hurl you on the open field.

I will let all the birds of the sky settle on you

and all the animals of the wild gorge themselves on you.

5 I will spread your flesh on the mountains

and fill the valleys with your remains.

2 Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, Thou art like a young lion of the nations, and thou art as a whale in the seas: and thou camest forth with thy rivers, and troubledst the waters with thy feet, and fouledst their rivers. 3 Thus saith the Lord God; I will therefore spread out my net over thee with a company of many people; and they shall bring thee up in my net. 4 Then will I leave thee upon the land, I will cast thee forth upon the open field, and will cause all the fowls of the heaven to remain upon thee, and I will fill the beasts of the whole earth with thee. 5 And I will lay thy flesh upon the mountains, and fill the valleys with thy height.

2 “Son of man, mourn for Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and give him this message:

“You think of yourself as a strong young lion among the nations,

but you are really just a sea monster,

heaving around in your own rivers,

stirring up mud with your feet.

3 Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

I will send many people

to catch you in my net

and haul you out of the water.

4 I will leave you stranded on the land to die.

All the birds of the heavens will land on you,

and the wild animals of the whole earth

will gorge themselves on you.

5 I will scatter your flesh on the hills

and fill the valleys with your bones.

2 “Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say to him:

‘You are like a young lion among the nations,

And you are like a monster in the seas,

Bursting forth in your rivers,

Troubling the waters with your feet,

And fouling their rivers.’

3 “Thus says the Lord God:

‘I will therefore spread My net over you with a company of many people,

And they will draw you up in My net.

4 Then I will leave you on the land;

I will cast you out on the open fields,

And cause to settle on you all the birds of the heavens.

And with you I will fill the beasts of the whole earth.

5 I will lay your flesh on the mountains,

And fill the valleys with your carcass.

2 “Human, sing a funeral song about the king of Egypt. Say to him:

‘You are like a young lion among the nations.

You are like a crocodile in the seas.

You splash around in your streams

and stir up the water with your feet,

making the rivers muddy.

3 “ ‘This is what the Lord God says:

I will spread my net over you,

and I will use a large group of people

to pull you up in my net.

4 Then I will throw you on the land

dropping you onto the ground.

I will let the birds of the sky rest on you

and all the animals of the earth eat you until they are full.

5 I will scatter your flesh on the mountains

and fill the valleys with what is left of you.

2 Son of man, take up a lamentation over Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, Thou wast likened unto a young lion of the nations: yet art thou as a monster in the seas; and thou didst break forth with thy rivers, and troubledst the waters with thy feet, and fouledst their rivers. 3 Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I will spread out my net upon thee with a company of many peoples; and they shall bring thee up in my net. 4 And I will leave thee upon the land, I will cast thee forth upon the open field, and will cause all the birds of the heavens to settle upon thee, and I will satisfy the beasts of the whole earth with thee. 5 And I will lay thy flesh upon the mountains, and fill the valleys with thy height.

2 Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, Thou wast like a young lion among the nations, and thou wast as a monster in the seas; and thou didst break forth in thy rivers, and troubledst the waters with thy feet, and fouledst their rivers. 3 Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I will also spread out my net over thee with an assemblage of many peoples; and they shall bring thee up in my net. 4 And I will leave thee upon the land, I will cast thee forth upon the open field, and will cause all the fowl of the heavens to settle upon thee, and I will fill the beasts of the whole earth with thee. 5 And I will lay thy flesh upon the mountains, and fill the valleys with the heap of thy members;

2 “Son of man, sing a funeral song for Pharaoh, king of Egypt. Tell him, 

‘You think you are like a lion among the nations. 

Instead, you are like a crocodile in the water. 

You splash around in the water. 

You stir up the water with your feet. 

You make the streams muddy. 

3 “ ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says: When many nations gather together, I will spread my net over you, and they will haul you up in a net. 4 I will throw you on the ground and toss you into an open field. I will make birds perch on you, and wild animals from all over the earth will feed on you. 5 I will scatter your flesh on the hills and fill the valleys with your rotting corpse.

2 “Son of man, lament for Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him:

You compare yourself to a lion of the nations,

but you are like a monster in the seas.

You thrash about in your rivers,

churn up the waters with your feet,

and muddy the rivers.”

3 This is what the Lord God says:

I will spread My net over you

with an assembly of many peoples,

and they will haul you up in My net.

4 I will abandon you on the land

and hurl you on the open field.

I will cause all the birds of the sky

to settle on you

and let the beasts of the entire earth

eat their fill of you.

5 I will put your flesh on the mountains

and fill the valleys with your carcass.

2 Mortal, raise a lamentation over Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him:

You consider yourself a lion among the nations,

but you are like a dragon in the seas;

you thrash about in your streams,

trouble the water with your feet,

and foul your streams.

3 Thus says the Lord God:

In an assembly of many peoples

I will throw my net over you,

and I will haul you up in my dragnet.

4 I will throw you on the ground;

on the open field I will fling you

and will cause all the birds of the air to settle on you,

and I will let the wild animals of the whole earth gorge themselves on you.

5 I will strew your flesh on the mountains

and fill the valleys with your carcass.

2 “Son of man, raise a lament over Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and you must say to him,

‘With a fierce, strong lion among nations you compared yourself,

and you are like the sea monster in the seas,

and you thrash about in your rivers,

and you make water turbid with your feet,

and you make your rivers muddy.

3 Thus says the Lord Yahweh:

Now I will spread my net over you

in the assembly of many peoples,

and I will bring you up in my dragnet.

4 And I will throw you on the ground;

on the surface of the open field I will hurl you,

and I will cause every bird of the heaven to dwell on you,

and I will satisfy the animals of all of the world from you.

5 And I will put your flesh on the mountains,

and I will fill the valleys with your carcass.

2 “Son of man, sing a song of sadness about Pharaoh Hophra, the king of Egypt. Tell him,

“ ‘You are like a lion among the nations.

You are like a monster in the sea.

You move around wildly in your rivers.

You churn the water with your feet.

You make the streams muddy.’ ”

3 The Lord and King says,

“I will use a large crowd of people

to throw my net over you.

They will pull you up in it.

4 Then I will throw you on the land.

I will toss you into an open field.

I will let all of the birds of the air settle on you.

I will let all of the wild animals eat you up.

5 I will scatter the parts of your body all over the mountains.

I will fill the valleys with your remains.

2 “Son of man, take up a lamentation over Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him,

‘You compared yourself to a young lion of the nations,

Yet you are like the monster in the seas;

And you burst forth in your rivers

And muddied the waters with your feet

And fouled their rivers.’ ”

3 Thus says the Lord God,

“Now I will spread My net over you

With a company of many peoples,

And they shall lift you up in My net.

4 “I will leave you on the land;

I will cast you on the open field.

And I will cause all the birds of the heavens to dwell on you,

And I will satisfy the beasts of the whole earth with you.

5 “I will lay your flesh on the mountains

And fill the valleys with your refuse.
