Ezekiel 27:25–30

25 “ ‘The ships of Tarshish serve

as carriers for your wares.

You are filled with heavy cargo

as you sail the sea.

26 Your oarsmen take you

out to the high seas.

But the east wind will break you to pieces

far out at sea.

27 Your wealth, merchandise and wares,

your mariners, sailors and shipwrights,

your merchants and all your soldiers,

and everyone else on board

will sink into the heart of the sea

on the day of your shipwreck.

28 The shorelands will quake

when your sailors cry out.

29 All who handle the oars

will abandon their ships;

the mariners and all the sailors

will stand on the shore.

30 They will raise their voice

and cry bitterly over you;

they will sprinkle dust on their heads

and roll in ashes.

25 The ships of Tarshish did sing of thee in thy market: and thou wast replenished, and made very glorious in the midst of the seas. 26 Thy rowers have brought thee into great waters: the east wind hath broken thee in the midst of the seas. 27 Thy riches, and thy fairs, thy merchandise, thy mariners, and thy pilots, thy calkers, and the occupiers of thy merchandise, and all thy men of war, that are in thee, and in all thy company which is in the midst of thee, shall fall into the midst of the seas in the day of thy ruin. 28 The suburbs shall shake at the sound of the cry of thy pilots. 29 And all that handle the oar, the mariners, and all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships, they shall stand upon the land; 30 And shall cause their voice to be heard against thee, and shall cry bitterly, and shall cast up dust upon their heads, they shall wallow themselves in the ashes:

25 The ships of Tarshish were your ocean caravans. Your island warehouse was filled to the brim!

26 “But look! Your oarsmen

have taken you into stormy seas!

A mighty eastern gale

has wrecked you in the heart of the sea!

27 Everything is lost—

your riches and wares,

your sailors and pilots,

your ship builders, merchants, and warriors.

On the day of your ruin,

everyone on board sinks into the depths of the sea.

28 Your cities by the sea tremble

as your pilots cry out in terror.

29 All the oarsmen abandon their ships;

the sailors and pilots stand on the shore.

30 They cry aloud over you

and weep bitterly.

They throw dust on their heads

and roll in ashes.

25 “The ships of Tarshish were carriers of your merchandise.

You were filled and very glorious in the midst of the seas.

26 Your oarsmen brought you into many waters,

But the east wind broke you in the midst of the seas.

27 “Your riches, wares, and merchandise,

Your mariners and pilots,

Your caulkers and merchandisers,

All your men of war who are in you,

And the entire company which is in your midst,

Will fall into the midst of the seas on the day of your ruin.

28 The common-land will shake at the sound of the cry of your pilots.

29 “All who handle the oar,

The mariners,

All the pilots of the sea

Will come down from their ships and stand on the shore.

30 They will make their voice heard because of you;

They will cry bitterly and cast dust on their heads;

They will roll about in ashes;

25 “ ‘Trading ships

carried the things you sold.

You were like a ship full of heavy cargo

in the middle of the sea.

26 The men who rowed you

brought you out into the high seas,

but the east wind broke you to pieces

in the middle of the sea.

27 Your wealth, your trade, your goods,

your seamen, your sailors, your workers,

your traders, your warriors,

and everyone else on board

sank into the sea

on the day your ship was wrecked.

28 The people on the shore shake with fear

when your sailors cry out.

29 All the men who row

leave their ships;

the seamen and the sailors of other ships

stand on the shore.

30 They cry loudly about you;

they cry very much.

They throw dust on their heads

and roll in ashes to show they are sad.

25 The ships of Tarshish were thy caravans for thy traffic; and thou wast replenished, and highly honoured, in the heart of the seas.

26 Thy rowers have brought thee into great waters; the east wind hath broken thee in the heart of the seas. 27 Thy substance, and thy markets, thy merchandise, thy mariners, and thy pilots, they that repair thy leaks, and they that barter with thee, and all thy men of war that are in thee, along with all thine assemblage which is in the midst of thee, shall fall into the heart of the seas in the day of thy fall. 28 The open places shall shake at the sound of the cry of thy pilots. 29 And all that handle the oar, the mariners, all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships; they shall stand upon the land, 30 and shall cause their voice to be heard over thee, and shall cry bitterly; and they shall cast up dust upon their heads; they shall wallow themselves in ashes.

25 “ ‘Ships from Tarshish carried your goods. 

You were like a ship filled with heavy cargo in the sea. 

26 Your rowers took you out to the high seas, 

and an east wind wrecked you in the sea. 

27 Your wealth, your merchandise, and the goods you sell, 

your mariners and your sailors, 

your caulkers and your merchants, 

your soldiers and everyone else on board 

sank into the sea when your ship was wrecked. 

28 “ ‘When your sailors cried out, people on the shore trembled. 

29 All the rowers, the sailors, 

and all the mariners came down from their ships 

and stood on the shore. 

30 They cried loudly and bitterly over you. 

They put dust on their heads and covered themselves with ashes. 

25 Ships of Tarshish were the carriers for your goods.

So you became full and heavily loaded

in the heart of the sea.

26 Your rowers have brought you

onto the high seas,

but the east wind has shattered you

in the heart of the sea.

27 Your wealth, merchandise, and goods,

your sailors and captains,

those who repair your leaks,

those who barter for your goods,

and all the warriors within you,

with all the other people on board,

sink into the heart of the sea

on the day of your downfall.

28 The countryside shakes

at the sound of your sailors’ cries.

29 All those who handle an oar

disembark from their ships.

The sailors and all the captains of the sea

stand on the shore.

30 They raise their voices over you

and cry out bitterly.

They throw dust on their heads;

they roll in ashes.

25 The ships of Tarshish traveled for you in your trade.

So you were filled and heavily laden

in the heart of the seas.

26 Your rowers have brought you

into the high seas.

The east wind has wrecked you

in the heart of the seas.

27 Your riches, your wares, your merchandise,

your sailors and your pilots,

your caulkers, your dealers in merchandise,

and all your warriors within you,

with all the company

that is with you,

sink into the heart of the seas

on the day of your ruin.

28 At the sound of the cry of your pilots

the pasturelands shake,

29 and down from their ships

come all who handle the oar.

The sailors and all the pilots of the sea

stand on the shore

30 and wail aloud over you

and cry bitterly.

They throw dust on their heads

and wallow in ashes;

25 The ships of Tarshish were carrying for you your wares, and you were filled, and you became very heavy in the heart of the seas.

26 “ ‘Into many waters

the rowers brought you;

but the east wind wrecked you

in the heart of the seas.

27 Your wealth and your merchandise, your wares,

your mariners, and your seamen,

your shipwrights and the barterers of your wares

and all of your soldiers who are in you,

along with all of your crew who are in the midst of you,

they will fall in the heart of the seas on the day of your downfall.

28 At the sound of the shout of your seamen,

the pasturelands will shake.

29 And they will go down from their ships,

all of those holding an oar,

mariners, all of the seamen of the sea

will stand on the land,

30 and they will lament over you with their voice,

and they will cry out bitterly,

and they will throw dust on their heads,

and they will roll in the dust.

25 “ ‘ “The ships of Tarshish

carry your products.

You are like a ship filled with a heavy load

in the middle of the sea.

26 The sailors who man your oars take you

out to the high seas.

But the east wind will break you in pieces

in the middle of the sea.

27 You will be wrecked on that day.

Your wealth, goods and products

will sink deep into the sea.

So will your sailors, officers, carpenters,

traders and all of your soldiers.

Anyone else on board will sink too.

28 The lands along the coast will shake

when your officers cry out.

29 All those who man the oars

will desert their ships.

The sailors and all of the officers

will stand on the shore.

30 They will raise their voices.

They will cry bitterly over you.

They will sprinkle dust on their heads.

They will roll in ashes.

25 “The ships of Tarshish were the carriers for your merchandise.

And you were filled and were very glorious

In the heart of the seas.

26 “Your rowers have brought you

Into great waters;

The east wind has broken you

In the heart of the seas.

27 “Your wealth, your wares, your merchandise,

Your sailors and your pilots,

Your repairers of seams, your dealers in merchandise

And all your men of war who are in you,

With all your company that is in your midst,

Will fall into the heart of the seas

On the day of your overthrow.

28 “At the sound of the cry of your pilots

The pasture lands will shake.

29 “All who handle the oar,

The sailors and all the pilots of the sea

Will come down from their ships;

They will stand on the land,

30 And they will make their voice heard over you

And will cry bitterly.

They will cast dust on their heads,

They will wallow in ashes.
