Amos 6:11–12

11 For the Lord has given the command,

and he will smash the great house into pieces

and the small house into bits.

12 Do horses run on the rocky crags?

Does one plow the sea with oxen?

But you have turned justice into poison

and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness—

11 For, behold, the Lord commandeth,

And he will smite the great house with breaches,

And the little house with clefts.

12 Shall horses run upon the rock?

Will one plow there with oxen?

For ye have turned judgment into gall,

And the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:

11 When the Lord gives the command,

homes both great and small will be smashed to pieces.

12 Can horses gallop over boulders?

Can oxen be used to plow them?

But that’s how foolish you are when you turn justice into poison

and the sweet fruit of righteousness into bitterness.

11 For behold, the Lord gives a command:

He will break the great house into bits,

And the little house into pieces.

12 Do horses run on rocks?

Does one plow there with oxen?

Yet you have turned justice into gall,

And the fruit of righteousness into wormwood,

11 The Lord has given the command;

the large house will be broken into pieces,

and the small house into bits.

12 Horses do not run on rocks,

and people do not plow rocks with oxen.

But you have changed fairness into poison;

you have changed what is right into a bitter taste.

11 For, behold, Jehovah commandeth, and the great house shall be smitten with breaches, and the little house with clefts.

12 Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? that ye have turned justice into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood;

11 For behold, Jehovah commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts. 12 Shall horses run upon the rock? will men plough thereon with oxen? For ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood,

11 The Lord is going to give the command 

to level big houses and flatten little houses. 

12 Do horses run on rocks? 

Does a farmer plow the sea with oxen? 

Yet, you have turned justice into something deadly 

and what is righteous into poison. 

11 For the Lord commands:

The large house will be smashed to pieces,

and the small house to rubble.

12 Do horses gallop on the cliffs;

does anyone plow there with oxen?

Yet you have turned justice into poison

and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood —

11 For the Lord commands,

and he will shatter the great house to bits

and the little house to pieces.

12 Do horses run on rocky crags?

Does one plow the sea with oxen?

But you have turned justice into poison

and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood,

11 Look, Yahweh is going to command and the great house will be destroyed to bits and the little house to pieces. 12 Do horses run on rocks, or does one plow the sea with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood!

11 The Lord has already given an order.

He will smash large houses to pieces.

He will crush small houses to bits.

12 Horses don’t run on rocky ground.

People don’t plow there with oxen.

But you have turned fair treatment into poison.

You have turned the fruit of right living into bitterness.

11 For behold, the Lord is going to command that the great house be smashed to pieces and the small house to fragments.

12 Do horses run on rocks?

Or does one plow them with oxen?

Yet you have turned justice into poison

And the fruit of righteousness into wormwood,
