Amos 6:1–3 — The New International Version (NIV)

Woe to you who are complacent in Zion,

and to you who feel secure on Mount Samaria,

you notable men of the foremost nation,

to whom the people of Israel come!

Go to Kalneh and look at it;

go from there to great Hamath,

and then go down to Gath in Philistia.

Are they better off than your two kingdoms?

Is their land larger than yours?

You put off the day of disaster

and bring near a reign of terror.

Amos 6:1–3 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Woe to them that are at ease in Zion,

And trust in the mountain of Samaria,

Which are named chief of the nations,

To whom the house of Israel came!

Pass ye unto Calneh, and see;

And from thence go ye to Hamath the great:

Then go down to Gath of the Philistines:

Be they better than these kingdoms?

Or their border greater than your border?

Ye that put far away the evil day,

And cause the seat of violence to come near;

Amos 6:1–3 — New Living Translation (NLT)

What sorrow awaits you who lounge in luxury in Jerusalem,

and you who feel secure in Samaria!

You are famous and popular in Israel,

and people go to you for help.

But go over to Calneh

and see what happened there.

Then go to the great city of Hamath

and down to the Philistine city of Gath.

You are no better than they were,

and look at how they were destroyed.

You push away every thought of coming disaster,

but your actions only bring the day of judgment closer.

Amos 6:1–3 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

Woe to you who are at ease in Zion,

And trust in Mount Samaria,

Notable persons in the chief nation,

To whom the house of Israel comes!

Go over to Calneh and see;

And from there go to Hamath the great;

Then go down to Gath of the Philistines.

Are you better than these kingdoms?

Or is their territory greater than your territory?

Woe to you who put far off the day of doom,

Who cause the seat of violence to come near;

Amos 6:1–3 — New Century Version (NCV)

How terrible it will be for those who have an easy life in Jerusalem,

for those who feel safe living on Mount Samaria.

You think you are the important people of the best nation in the world;

the Israelites come to you for help.

Go look at the city of Calneh,

and from there go to the great city Hamath;

then go down to Gath of the Philistines.

You are no better than these kingdoms.

Your land is no larger than theirs.

You put off the day of punishment,

but you bring near the day when you can do evil to others.

Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and to them that are secure in the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come! Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great; then go down to Gath of the Philistines: are they better than these kingdoms? or is their border greater than your border? —ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;

Amos 6:1–3 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

How horrible it will be for those who are at ease in Zion,

for those who feel secure on the mountain of Samaria,

and for the heads of the leading nations,

to whom the nation of Israel comes.

Go to Calneh and look.

Go from there to the great city of Hamath.

Then go to Gath, the city of the Philistines.

Are you better than these kingdoms?

Is their territory larger than yours?

How horrible it will be for those who think that a day of disaster is far away.

They bring the reign of violence closer.

then go down to Gath of the Philistines.

You dismiss any thought of the evil day

and bring in a reign of violence.

Amos 6:1–3 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Alas for those who are at ease in Zion,

and for those who feel secure on Mount Samaria,

the notables of the first of the nations,

to whom the house of Israel resorts!

Cross over to Calneh, and see;

from there go to Hamath the great;

then go down to Gath of the Philistines.

Are you better than these kingdoms?

Or is your territory greater than their territory,

O you that put far away the evil day,

and bring near a reign of violence?

Amos 6:1–3 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

Alas for those being at ease in Zion, and those who feel secure on Mount Samaria, the notables of the best of the nations! The house of Israel resorts to them. Cross over to Calneh and see, and go from there to Hamath Rabbah and go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are you better than these kingdoms, or is their territory greater than your territory? You that put off the day of disaster and bring near a reign of violence!

Amos 6:1–3 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

How terrible it will be for you men

who are so contented on Mount Zion!

How terrible for you who feel secure

on the hill of Samaria!

You are famous men from the greatest nation.

The people of Israel come to you

for help and advice.

Go to the city of Calneh. Look at it.

Go from there to the great city of Hamath.

Then go down to Gath in Philistia.

Are those places better off than your two kingdoms?

Is their land larger than yours?

You are trying to avoid the time

when trouble will come.

But you are only bringing closer

the Assyrian rule of terror.

Amos 6:1–3 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

Woe to those who are at ease in Zion

And to those who feel secure in the mountain of Samaria,

The distinguished men of the foremost of nations,

To whom the house of Israel comes.

Go over to Calneh and look,

And go from there to Hamath the great,

Then go down to Gath of the Philistines.

Are they better than these kingdoms,

Or is their territory greater than yours?

Do you put off the day of calamity,

And would you bring near the seat of violence?
