“You will be ever hearing but never understanding;

you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.”

hear with their ears,

understand with their hearts

and turn, and I would heal them.’

Acts 28:26–27 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

26 Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: 27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

Acts 28:26–27 — New Living Translation (NLT)

26 ‘Go and say to this people:

When you hear what I say,

you will not understand.

When you see what I do,

you will not comprehend.

27 For the hearts of these people are hardened,

and their ears cannot hear,

and they have closed their eyes—

so their eyes cannot see,

and their ears cannot hear,

and their hearts cannot understand,

and they cannot turn to me

and let me heal them.’

Acts 28:26–27 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

26 saying,

‘Go to this people and say:

Hearing you will hear, and shall not understand;

And seeing you will see, and not perceive;

27 For the hearts of this people have grown dull.

Their ears are hard of hearing,

And their eyes they have closed,

Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears,

Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,

So that I should heal them.” ’

Acts 28:26–27 — New Century Version (NCV)

26 ‘Go to this people and say:

You will listen and listen, but you will not understand.

You will look and look, but you will not learn,

27 because these people have become stubborn.

They don’t hear with their ears,

and they have closed their eyes.

Otherwise, they might really understand

what they see with their eyes

and hear with their ears.

They might really understand in their minds

and come back to me and be healed.’

Acts 28:26–27 — American Standard Version (ASV)

26 saying,

Go thou unto this people, and say,

By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand;

And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive:

27 For this people’s heart is waxed gross,

And their ears are dull of hearing,

And their eyes they have closed;

Lest, haply they should perceive with their eyes,

And hear with their ears,

And understand with their heart,

And should turn again, And I should heal them.

Acts 28:26–27 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Acts 28:26–27 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

26 The Spirit said: ‘Go to these people and say,

“You will hear clearly but never understand.

You will see clearly but never comprehend.

27 These people have become close-minded

and hard of hearing.

They have shut their eyes

so that their eyes never see.

Their ears never hear.

Their minds never understand.

And they never turn to me for healing.” ’

Acts 28:26–27 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

26 when He said,

Go to these people and say:

You will listen and listen,

yet never understand;

and you will look and look,

yet never perceive.

27 For the hearts of these people

have grown callous,

their ears are hard of hearing,

and they have shut their eyes;

otherwise they might see with their eyes

and hear with their ears,

understand with their heart,

and be converted,

and I would heal them.

Acts 28:26–27 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

You will indeed listen, but never understand,

and you will indeed look, but never perceive.

27 For this people’s heart has grown dull,

and their ears are hard of hearing,

and they have shut their eyes;

so that they might not look with their eyes,

and listen with their ears,

and understand with their heart and turn—

and I would heal them.’

Acts 28:26–27 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

26 saying,

‘Go to this people and say,

“You will keep on hearing and will never understand,

and you will keep on seeing and will never perceive.

lest they see with their eyes,

and hear with their ears,

and understand with their heart,

and turn, and I would heal them.” ’

“You will hear but never understand.

You will see but never know what you are seeing.”

They have closed their eyes.

Otherwise they might see with their eyes.

They might hear with their ears.

They might understand with their hearts.

They might turn, and then I would heal them.’

Otherwise they might see with their eyes,

And hear with their ears,

And understand with their heart and return,

And I would heal them.” ’
