Psalm 64:2–8 — New International Version (2011) (NIV)
2 Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked,
from the plots of evildoers.
3 They sharpen their tongues like swords
and aim cruel words like deadly arrows.
4 They shoot from ambush at the innocent;
they shoot suddenly, without fear.
5 They encourage each other in evil plans,
they talk about hiding their snares;
they say, “Who will see it?”
6 They plot injustice and say,
“We have devised a perfect plan!”
Surely the human mind and heart are cunning.
7 But God will shoot them with his arrows;
they will suddenly be struck down.
8 He will turn their own tongues against them
and bring them to ruin;
all who see them will shake their heads in scorn.
Psalm 64:2–8 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
2 Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked;
From the insurrection of the workers of iniquity:
3 Who whet their tongue like a sword,
And bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words:
4 That they may shoot in secret at the perfect:
Suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.
5 They encourage themselves in an evil matter:
They commune of laying snares privily;
They say, Who shall see them?
6 They search out iniquities;
They accomplish a diligent search:
Both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep.
7 But God shall shoot at them with an arrow;
Suddenly shall they be wounded.
8 So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves:
All that see them shall flee away.
Psalm 64:2–8 — New Living Translation (NLT)
2 Hide me from the plots of this evil mob,
from this gang of wrongdoers.
3 They sharpen their tongues like swords
and aim their bitter words like arrows.
4 They shoot from ambush at the innocent,
attacking suddenly and fearlessly.
5 They encourage each other to do evil
and plan how to set their traps in secret.
“Who will ever notice?” they ask.
6 As they plot their crimes, they say,
“We have devised the perfect plan!”
Yes, the human heart and mind are cunning.
7 But God himself will shoot them with his arrows,
suddenly striking them down.
8 Their own tongues will ruin them,
and all who see them will shake their heads in scorn.
Psalm 64:2–8 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
2 Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity,
3 Who sharpen their tongue like a sword,
And bend their bows to shoot their arrows—bitter words,
4 That they may shoot in secret at the blameless;
Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear.
5 They encourage themselves in an evil matter;
They talk of laying snares secretly;
They say, “Who will see them?”
6 They devise iniquities:
“We have perfected a shrewd scheme.”
Both the inward thought and the heart of man are deep.
7 But God shall shoot at them with an arrow;
Suddenly they shall be wounded.
8 So He will make them stumble over their own tongue;
All who see them shall flee away.
Psalm 64:2–8 — New Century Version (NCV)
2 Hide me from those who plan wicked things,
from that gang who does evil.
3 They sharpen their tongues like swords
and shoot bitter words like arrows.
4 From their hiding places they shoot at innocent people;
they shoot suddenly and are not afraid.
5 They encourage each other to do wrong.
They talk about setting traps,
thinking no one will see them.
6 They plan wicked things and say,
“We have a perfect plan.”
The mind of human beings is hard to understand.
7 But God will shoot them with arrows;
they will suddenly be struck down.
8 Their own words will be used against them.
All who see them will shake their heads.
Psalm 64:2–8 — American Standard Version (ASV)
2 Hide me from the secret counsel of evil-doers,
From the tumult of the workers of iniquity;
3 Who have whet their tongue like a sword,
And have aimed their arrows, even bitter words,
4 That they may shoot in secret places at the perfect:
Suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.
5 They encourage themselves in an evil purpose;
They commune of laying snares privily;
They say, Who will see them?
6 They search out iniquities;
We have accomplished, say they, a diligent search:
And the inward thought and the heart of every one is deep.
7 But God will shoot at them;
With an arrow suddenly shall they be wounded.
8 So they shall be made to stumble, their own tongue being against them:
All that see them shall wag the head.
Psalm 64:2–8 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
2 Hide me from the secret counsel of evil-doers, from the tumultuous crowd of the workers of iniquity, 3 Who have sharpened their tongue like a sword, and have aimed their arrow, a bitter word; 4 That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not. 5 They encourage themselves in an evil matter, they concert to hide snares; they say, Who will see them? 6 They devise iniquities: We have it ready, the plan is diligently sought out. And each one’s inward thought and heart is deep.
7 But God will shoot an arrow at them: suddenly are they wounded; 8 By their own tongue they are made to fall over one another: all that see them shall flee away.
Psalm 64:2–8 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

from the mob of troublemakers.
3 They sharpen their tongues like swords.
They aim bitter words like arrows
4 to shoot at innocent people from their hiding places.
They shoot at them suddenly, without any fear.
5 They encourage one another in their evil plans.
They talk about setting traps and say,
“Who can see them?”
6 They search for the perfect crime and say,
“We have perfected a foolproof scheme!”
Human nature and the human heart are a mystery!
7 But God will shoot them with an arrow.
Suddenly, they will be struck dead.
8 They will trip over their own tongues.
Everyone who sees them will shake his head.
Psalm 64:2–8 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

their own tongues work against them.
All who see them will shake their heads.

They shoot quickly. They aren’t afraid of being caught.

He will destroy them.
All those who see them will shake their heads
and look down on them.
