Psalm 56:5–8 — The New International Version (NIV)

All day long they twist my words;

all their schemes are for my ruin.

They conspire, they lurk,

they watch my steps,

hoping to take my life.

Because of their wickedness do not let them escape;

in your anger, God, bring the nations down.

Record my misery;

list my tears on your scroll—

are they not in your record?

Psalm 56:5–8 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Every day they wrest my words:

All their thoughts are against me for evil.

They gather themselves together, they hide themselves,

They mark my steps,

When they wait for my soul.

Shall they escape by iniquity?

In thine anger cast down the people, O God.

Thou tellest my wanderings:

Put thou my tears into thy bottle:

Are they not in thy book?

Psalm 56:5–8 — New Living Translation (NLT)

They are always twisting what I say;

they spend their days plotting to harm me.

They come together to spy on me—

watching my every step, eager to kill me.

Don’t let them get away with their wickedness;

in your anger, O God, bring them down.

You keep track of all my sorrows.

You have collected all my tears in your bottle.

You have recorded each one in your book.

Psalm 56:5–8 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

All day they twist my words;

All their thoughts are against me for evil.

They gather together,

They hide, they mark my steps,

When they lie in wait for my life.

Shall they escape by iniquity?

In anger cast down the peoples, O God!

You number my wanderings;

Put my tears into Your bottle;

Are they not in Your book?

Psalm 56:5–8 — New Century Version (NCV)

All day long they twist my words;

all their evil plans are against me.

They wait. They hide.

They watch my steps,

hoping to kill me.

God, do not let them escape;

punish the foreign nations in your anger.

You have recorded my troubles.

You have kept a list of my tears.

Aren’t they in your records?

Psalm 56:5–8 — American Standard Version (ASV)

All the day long they wrest my words:

All their thoughts are against me for evil.

They gather themselves together, they hide themselves,

They mark my steps,

Even as they have waited for my soul.

Shall they escape by iniquity?

In anger cast down the peoples, O God.

Thou numberest my wanderings:

Put thou my tears into thy bottle;

Are they not in thy book?

Psalm 56:5–8 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

All the day long they wrest my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil. They gather themselves together, they hide themselves; they mark my steps, because they wait for my soul. Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, O God.

Thou countest my wanderings; put my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?

Psalm 56:5–8 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

All day long my enemies twist my words.

Their every thought is an evil plan against me.

They attack, and then they hide.

They watch my every step as they wait to take my life.

With the wrong they do, can they escape?

O God, angrily make the nations fall.

(You have kept a record of my wanderings.

Put my tears in your bottle.

They are already in your book.)

Psalm 56:5–8 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

They twist my words all day long;

all their thoughts against me are evil.

They stir up strife, they lurk;

they watch my steps

Will they escape in spite of such sin?

God, bring down the nations in wrath.

You Yourself have recorded my wanderings.

Put my tears in Your bottle.

Are they not in Your records?
