17  eAll this has come upon us,

though we have not forgotten you,

and we have not been false to your covenant.

18  Our heart has not turned back,

nor have our fsteps gdeparted from your way;

19  yet you have hbroken us in the place of ijackals

and covered us with jthe shadow of death.

20  If we had forgotten the name of our God

or kspread out our hands to la foreign god,

21  mwould not God discover this?

Psalm 44:17–22 — The New International Version (NIV)

17 All this came upon us,

though we had not forgotten you;

we had not been false to your covenant.

18 Our hearts had not turned back;

our feet had not strayed from your path.

19 But you crushed us and made us a haunt for jackals;

you covered us over with deep darkness.

20 If we had forgotten the name of our God

or spread out our hands to a foreign god,

21 would not God have discovered it,

since he knows the secrets of the heart?

22 Yet for your sake we face death all day long;

we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.

Psalm 44:17–22 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

17 All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee,

Neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.

18 Our heart is not turned back,

Neither have our steps declined from thy way;

19 Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons,

And covered us with the shadow of death.

20 If we have forgotten the name of our God,

Or stretched out our hands to a strange god;

21 Shall not God search this out?

For he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

22 Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long;

We are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

Psalm 44:17–22 — New Living Translation (NLT)

17 All this has happened though we have not forgotten you.

We have not violated your covenant.

18 Our hearts have not deserted you.

We have not strayed from your path.

19 Yet you have crushed us in the jackal’s desert home.

You have covered us with darkness and death.

20 If we had forgotten the name of our God

or spread our hands in prayer to foreign gods,

21 God would surely have known it,

for he knows the secrets of every heart.

22 But for your sake we are killed every day;

we are being slaughtered like sheep.

Psalm 44:17–22 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

17 All this has come upon us;

But we have not forgotten You,

Nor have we dealt falsely with Your covenant.

18 Our heart has not turned back,

Nor have our steps departed from Your way;

19 But You have severely broken us in the place of jackals,

And covered us with the shadow of death.

20 If we had forgotten the name of our God,

Or stretched out our hands to a foreign god,

21 Would not God search this out?

For He knows the secrets of the heart.

22 Yet for Your sake we are killed all day long;

We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Psalm 44:17–22 — New Century Version (NCV)

17 All these things have happened to us,

but we have not forgotten you

or failed to keep our agreement with you.

18 Our hearts haven’t turned away from you,

and we haven’t stopped following you.

19 But you crushed us in this place where wild dogs live,

and you covered us with deep darkness.

20 If we had forgotten our God

or lifted our hands in prayer to foreign gods,

21 God would have known,

because he knows what is in our hearts.

22 But for you we are in danger of death all the time.

People think we are worth no more than sheep to be killed.

Psalm 44:17–22 — American Standard Version (ASV)

17 All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee,

Neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.

18 Our heart is not turned back,

Neither have our steps declined from thy way,

19 That thou hast sore broken us in the place of jackals,

And covered us with the shadow of death.

20 If we have forgotten the name of our God,

Or spread forth our hands to a strange god;

21 Will not God search this out?

For he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

22 Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long;

We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Psalm 44:17–22 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

17 All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely against thy covenant: 18 Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy path; 19 Though thou hast crushed us in the place of jackals, and covered us with the shadow of death. 20 If we had forgotten the name of our God, and stretched out our hands to a strange •god, 21 Would not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart. 22 But for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are reckoned as sheep for slaughter.

Psalm 44:17–22 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

17 Although all of this happened to us,

we never forgot you.

We never ignored your promise.

18 Our hearts never turned away.

Our feet never left your path.

19 Yet, you crushed us in a place for jackals

and covered us with the shadow of death.

20 If we forgot the name of our God

or stretched out our hands to pray to another god,

21 wouldn’t God find out,

since he knows the secrets in our hearts?

22 Indeed, we are being killed all day long because of you.

We are thought of as sheep to be slaughtered.

Psalm 44:17–22 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

17 All this has happened to us,

but we have not forgotten You

or betrayed Your covenant.

18 Our hearts have not turned back;

our steps have not strayed from Your path.

19 But You have crushed us in a haunt of jackals

and have covered us with deepest darkness.

20 If we had forgotten the name of our God

and spread out our hands to a foreign god,

21 wouldn’t God have found this out,

since He knows the secrets of the heart?

22 Because of You we are slain all day long;

we are counted as sheep to be slaughtered.

Psalm 44:17–22 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

17 All this has come upon us,

yet we have not forgotten you,

or been false to your covenant.

18 Our heart has not turned back,

nor have our steps departed from your way,

19 yet you have broken us in the haunt of jackals,

and covered us with deep darkness.

20 If we had forgotten the name of our God,

or spread out our hands to a strange god,

21 would not God discover this?

For he knows the secrets of the heart.

22 Because of you we are being killed all day long,

and accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Psalm 44:17–22 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

17 All this has befallen us, though we have not forgotten you,

and we have not been false to your covenant.

18 Our heart has not turned back,

and our steps have not turned aside from your way.

19 But you have crushed us in a place of jackals,

and have covered us with deep shadow.

20 If we had forgotten the name of our God,

or had spread out our hands in prayer to a foreign god,

21 would not God discover this,

for he knows the secrets of the heart?

22 Rather, on account of you we are killed all day long;

we are accounted as sheep for slaughter.

Psalm 44:17–22 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

17 All of this happened to us,

even though we had not forgotten you.

We had been true to the covenant you made with us.

18 Our hearts had not turned away from you.

Our feet had not wandered from your path.

19 But you crushed us and left us to the wild dogs.

You covered us over with deep darkness.

20 We didn’t forget our God.

We didn’t spread out our hands in prayer to a strange god.

21 If we had, God would have discovered it.

He knows the secrets of our hearts.

22 But because of you, we face death all day long.

We are considered as sheep to be killed.

Psalm 44:17–22 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

17 All this has come upon us, but we have not forgotten You,

And we have not dealt falsely with Your covenant.

18 Our heart has not turned back,

And our steps have not deviated from Your way,

19 Yet You have crushed us in a place of jackals

And covered us with the shadow of death.

20 If we had forgotten the name of our God

Or extended our hands to a strange god,

21 Would not God find this out?

For He knows the secrets of the heart.

22 But for Your sake we are killed all day long;

We are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.
