17 For I am about to fall,

and my pain is ever with me.

18 I confess my iniquity;

I am troubled by my sin.

19 Many have become my enemies without cause;

those who hate me without reason are numerous.

20 Those who repay my good with evil

lodge accusations against me,

though I seek only to do what is good.

Psalm 38:17–20 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

17 For I am ready to halt,

And my sorrow is continually before me.

18 For I will declare mine iniquity;

I will be sorry for my sin.

19 But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong:

And they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

20 They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries;

Because I follow the thing that good is.

Psalm 38:17–20 — New Living Translation (NLT)

17 I am on the verge of collapse,

facing constant pain.

18 But I confess my sins;

I am deeply sorry for what I have done.

they hate me without reason.

20 They repay me evil for good

and oppose me for pursuing good.

Psalm 38:17–20 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

17 For I am ready to fall,

And my sorrow is continually before me.

18 For I will declare my iniquity;

I will be in anguish over my sin.

And those who hate me wrongfully have multiplied.

20 Those also who render evil for good,

They are my adversaries, because I follow what is good.

Psalm 38:17–20 — New Century Version (NCV)

17 I am about to die,

and I cannot forget my pain.

18 I confess my guilt;

I am troubled by my sin.

and many hate me for no reason.

20 They repay me with evil for the good I did.

They lie about me because I try to do good.

Psalm 38:17–20 — American Standard Version (ASV)

17 For I am ready to fall,

And my sorrow is continually before me.

18 For I will declare mine iniquity;

I will be sorry for my sin.

And they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

20 They also that render evil for good

Are adversaries unto me, because I follow the thing that is good.

Psalm 38:17–20 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

17 For I am ready to halt, and my pain is continually before me. 18 For I will declare mine iniquity, I am grieved for my sin. 19 But mine enemies are lively, they are strong; and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied: 20 And they that render evil for good are adversaries unto me; because I pursue what is good.

Psalm 38:17–20 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

17 I am ready to fall.

I am continually aware of my pain.

18 I confess my guilt.

Many hate me for no reason.

20 They pay me back with evil instead of good,

and they accuse me because I try to do what is good.
