Psalm 123:title–4 — The New International Version (NIV)

Title A song of ascents.

I lift up my eyes to you,

to you who sit enthroned in heaven.

As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master,

as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress,

so our eyes look to the Lord our God,

till he shows us his mercy.

Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us,

for we have endured no end of contempt.

We have endured no end

of ridicule from the arrogant,

of contempt from the proud.

Psalm 123:title–4 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Title A Song of degrees.

Unto thee lift I up mine eyes,

O thou that dwellest in the heavens.

Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters,

And as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress;

So our eyes wait upon the Lord our God,

Until that he have mercy upon us.

Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us:

For we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

Our soul is exceedingly filled

With the scorning of those that are at ease,

And with the contempt of the proud.

Psalm 123:title–4 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Title A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem.

I lift my eyes to you,

O God, enthroned in heaven.

We keep looking to the Lord our God for his mercy,

just as servants keep their eyes on their master,

as a slave girl watches her mistress for the slightest signal.

Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy,

for we have had our fill of contempt.

We have had more than our fill of the scoffing of the proud

and the contempt of the arrogant.

Psalm 123:title–4 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

Title A Song of Ascents.

Unto You I lift up my eyes,

O You who dwell in the heavens.

Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters,

As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,

So our eyes look to the Lord our God,

Until He has mercy on us.

Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us!

For we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

Our soul is exceedingly filled

With the scorn of those who are at ease,

With the contempt of the proud.

Psalm 123:title–4 — New Century Version (NCV)

Title A song for going up to worship.

Lord, I look upward to you,

you who live in heaven.

Slaves depend on their masters,

and a female servant depends on her mistress.

In the same way, we depend on the Lord our God;

we wait for him to show us mercy.

Have mercy on us, Lord. Have mercy on us,

because we have been insulted.

We have suffered many insults from lazy people

and much cruelty from the proud.

Psalm 123:title–4 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Title A Song of Ascents.

Unto thee do I lift up mine eyes,

O thou that sittest in the heavens.

Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their master,

As the eyes of a maid unto the hand of her mistress;

So our eyes look unto Jehovah our God,

Until he have mercy upon us.

Have mercy upon us, O Jehovah, have mercy upon us;

For we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

Our soul is exceedingly filled

With the scoffing of those that are at ease,

And with the contempt of the proud.

Psalm 123:title–4 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Title A Song of degrees.

Unto thee do I lift up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens. Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress, so our eyes are directed to Jehovah our God, until he be gracious unto us. Be gracious unto us, O Jehovah, be gracious unto us; for we are exceedingly filled with contempt. Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, with the contempt of the proud.

Psalm 123:title–4 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

Title A song for going up to worship.

I look up to you,

to the one who sits enthroned in heaven.

As servants depend on their masters,

as a maid depends on her mistress,

so we depend on the Lord our God

until he has pity on us.

Have pity on us, O Lord

Have pity on us

because we have suffered more than our share of contempt.

We have suffered more than our share of ridicule

from those who are carefree.

We have suffered more than our share of contempt

from those who are arrogant.

Psalm 123:title–4 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Title A song of ascents.

I lift my eyes to You,

the One enthroned in heaven.

Like a servant’s eyes on his master’s hand,

like a servant girl’s eyes on her mistress’s hand,

so our eyes are on the Lord our God

until He shows us favor.

Show us favor, Lord, show us favor,

for we’ve had more than enough contempt.

We’ve had more than enough

scorn from the arrogant

and contempt from the proud.

Psalm 123:title–4 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Title A Song of Ascents.

To you I lift up my eyes,

O you who are enthroned in the heavens!

As the eyes of servants

look to the hand of their master,

as the eyes of a maid

to the hand of her mistress,

so our eyes look to the Lord our God,

until he has mercy upon us.

Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us,

for we have had more than enough of contempt.

Our soul has had more than its fill

of the scorn of those who are at ease,

of the contempt of the proud.

Psalm 123:title–4 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

Title A song of ascents.

I lift up my eyes to you,

the one enthroned in the heavens.

Behold, as the eyes of servants

look to the hand of their master,

as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,

so our eyes look to Yahweh our God,

until he is gracious to us.

Be gracious to us, O Yahweh, be gracious to us,

for long enough we have had our fill of contempt.

For long enough our soul has had its fill of

the derision of the self-confident,

the contempt of the arrogant.

Psalm 123:title–4 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Title A song for those who go up to Jerusalem to worship the Lord.

I look up and pray to you.

Your throne is in heaven.

Slaves depend on their masters.

Maids depend on the women they work for.

In the same way, we depend on the Lord our God.

We wait for him to show us his favor.

Lord, show us your favor. Show us your favor,

because people have made so much fun of us.

We have had to put up with a lot from those who are proud.

They were always laughing at us.

Psalm 123:title–4 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

Title A Song of Ascents.

To You I lift up my eyes,

O You who are enthroned in the heavens!

Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master,

As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,

So our eyes look to the Lord our God,

Until He is gracious to us.

Be gracious to us, O Lord, be gracious to us,

For we are greatly filled with contempt.

Our soul is greatly filled

With the scoffing of those who are at ease,

And with the contempt of the proud.
