Psalm 8:1–5 — The New International Version (NIV)

Lord, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory

in the heavens.

Through the praise of children and infants

you have established a stronghold against your enemies,

to silence the foe and the avenger.

When I consider your heavens,

the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars,

which you have set in place,

what is mankind that you are mindful of them,

human beings that you care for them?

You have made them a little lower than the angels

and crowned them with glory and honor.

Psalm 8:1–5 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

O Lord our Lord,

How excellent is thy name in all the earth!

Who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength

Because of thine enemies,

That thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers,

The moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

What is man, that thou art mindful of him?

And the son of man, that thou visitest him?

For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels,

And hast crowned him with glory and honour.

Psalm 8:1–5 — New Living Translation (NLT)

O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!

Your glory is higher than the heavens.

You have taught children and infants

to tell of your strength,

silencing your enemies

and all who oppose you.

When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—

the moon and the stars you set in place—

what are mere mortals that you should think about them,

human beings that you should care for them?

Yet you made them only a little lower than God

and crowned them with glory and honor.

Psalm 8:1–5 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

O Lord, our Lord,

How excellent is Your name in all the earth,

Who have set Your glory above the heavens!

Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants

You have ordained strength,

Because of Your enemies,

That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,

The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,

What is man that You are mindful of him,

And the son of man that You visit him?

For You have made him a little lower than the angels,

And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

Psalm 8:1–5 — New Century Version (NCV)

Lord our Lord,

your name is the most wonderful name in all the earth!

It brings you praise in heaven above.

You have taught children and babies

to sing praises to you

because of your enemies.

And so you silence your enemies

and destroy those who try to get even.

I look at your heavens,

which you made with your fingers.

I see the moon and stars,

which you created.

But why are people even important to you?

Why do you take care of human beings?

You made them a little lower than the angels

and crowned them with glory and honor.

Psalm 8:1–5 — American Standard Version (ASV)

O Jehovah, our Lord,

How excellent is thy name in all the earth,

Who hast set thy glory upon the heavens!

Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou established strength,

Because of thine adversaries,

That thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers,

The moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

What is man, that thou art mindful of him?

And the son of man, that thou visitest him?

For thou hast made him but little lower than God,

And crownest him with glory and honor.

Psalm 8:1–5 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Jehovah our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy majesty above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou established praise because of thine adversaries, to still the enemy and the avenger.

When I see thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and stars, which thou hast established; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? Thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and splendour.

Psalm 8:1–5 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth!

Your glory is sung above the heavens.

From the mouths of little children and infants,

you have built a fortress against your opponents

to silence the enemy and the avenger.

When I look at your heavens,

the creation of your fingers,

the moon and the stars that you have set in place—

what is a mortal that you remember him

or the Son of Man that you take care of him?

You have made him a little lower than yourself.

You have crowned him with glory and honor.

Psalm 8:1–5 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Yahweh, our Lord,

how magnificent is Your name throughout the earth!

You have covered the heavens with Your majesty.

Because of Your adversaries,

You have established a stronghold

from the mouths of children and nursing infants

to silence the enemy and the avenger.

When I observe Your heavens,

the work of Your fingers,

the moon and the stars,

which You set in place,

what is man that You remember him,

the son of man that You look after him?

You made him little less than God

and crowned him with glory and honor.

Psalm 8:1–5 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

O Lord, our Sovereign,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens.

Out of the mouths of babes and infants

you have founded a bulwark because of your foes,

to silence the enemy and the avenger.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars that you have established;

what are human beings that you are mindful of them,

mortals that you care for them?

Yet you have made them a little lower than God,

and crowned them with glory and honor.

Psalm 8:1–5 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

Yahweh, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth,

who put your splendor above the heavens.

From the mouth of children and infants you have founded strength

on account of your enemies,

to silence the enemy and the avenger.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars which you set in place—

what is a human being that you think of him?

and a child of humankind that you care for him?

And you made him a little lower than heavenly beings,

and with glory and with majesty you crowned him.

Psalm 8:1–5 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Lord, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in the whole earth!

You have made your glory

higher than the heavens.

You have made sure that children

and infants praise you.

You have done it because of your enemies.

You have done it to put a stop to their talk.

I think about the heavens.

I think about what your fingers have created.

I think about the moon and stars

that you have set in place.

What is a human being that you think about him?

What is a son of man that you take care of him?

You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings.

You placed on him a crown of glory and honor.

Psalm 8:1–5 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

O Lord, our Lord,

How majestic is Your name in all the earth,

Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens!

From the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established strength

Because of Your adversaries,

To make the enemy and the revengeful cease.

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,

The moon and the stars, which You have ordained;

What is man that You take thought of him,

And the son of man that You care for him?

Yet You have made him a little lower than God,

And You crown him with glory and majesty!
