Psalm 78:61–64

61 He sent the ark of his might into captivity,

his splendor into the hands of the enemy.

62 He gave his people over to the sword;

he was furious with his inheritance.

63 Fire consumed their young men,

and their young women had no wedding songs;

64 their priests were put to the sword,

and their widows could not weep.

61 And delivered his strength into captivity,

And his glory into the enemy’s hand.

62 He gave his people over also unto the sword;

And was wroth with his inheritance.

63 The fire consumed their young men;

And their maidens were not given to marriage.

64 Their priests fell by the sword;

And their widows made no lamentation.

61 He allowed the Ark of his might to be captured;

he surrendered his glory into enemy hands.

62 He gave his people over to be butchered by the sword,

because he was so angry with his own people—his special possession.

63 Their young men were killed by fire;

their young women died before singing their wedding songs.

64 Their priests were slaughtered,

and their widows could not mourn their deaths.

61 And delivered His strength into captivity,

And His glory into the enemy’s hand.

62 He also gave His people over to the sword,

And was furious with His inheritance.

63 The fire consumed their young men,

And their maidens were not given in marriage.

64 Their priests fell by the sword,

And their widows made no lamentation.

61 He let the Ark, his power, be captured;

he let the Ark, his glory, be taken by enemies.

62 He let his people be killed;

he was very angry with his children.

63 The young men died by fire,

and the young women had no one to marry.

64 Their priests fell by the sword,

but their widows were not allowed to cry.

61 And delivered his strength into captivity,

And his glory into the adversary’s hand.

62 He gave his people over also unto the sword,

And was wroth with his inheritance.

63 Fire devoured their young men;

And their virgins had no marriage-song.

64 Their priests fell by the sword;

And their widows made no lamentation.

61 And gave his strength into captivity, and his glory into the hand of the oppressor; 62 And delivered up his people unto the sword, and was very wroth with his inheritance: 63 The fire consumed their young men, and their maidens were not praised in nuptial song; 64 Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows made no lamentation.

61 He allowed his power to be taken captive 

and handed his glory over to an oppressor. 

62 He let swords kill his people. 

He was furious with those who belonged to him. 

63 Fire consumed his best young men, 

so his virgins heard no wedding songs. 

64 His priests were cut down with swords. 

The widows ⸤of his priests⸥ could not even weep ⸤for them⸥. 

61 He gave up His strength to captivity

and His splendor to the hand of a foe.

62 He surrendered His people to the sword

because He was enraged with His heritage.

63 Fire consumed His chosen young men,

and His young women had no wedding songs.

64 His priests fell by the sword,

but the widows could not lament.

61 and delivered his power to captivity,

his glory to the hand of the foe.

62 He gave his people to the sword

and vented his wrath on his heritage.

63 Fire devoured their young men,

and their young women had no marriage song.

64 Their priests fell by the sword,

and their widows made no lamentation.

61 And he gave his strength into captivity

and his young women were not praised.

64 His priests fell by the sword,

and his widows did not weep.

Into the hands of his enemies he sent the ark where his glory rested.

62 He let his people be killed with swords.

He was very angry with them.

63 Fire destroyed their young men.

Their young women had no one to get married to.

64 Their priests were killed with swords.

Their widows weren’t able to cry.

61 And gave up His strength to captivity

And His glory into the hand of the adversary.

And was filled with wrath at His inheritance.
