For I envied the arrogant

they are not plagued by human ills.

Therefore pride is their necklace;

they clothe themselves with violence.

Psalm 73:3–6 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

For I was envious at the foolish,

When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

For there are no bands in their death:

But their strength is firm.

They are not in trouble as other men;

Neither are they plagued like other men.

Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain;

Violence covereth them as a garment.

Psalm 73:3–6 — New Living Translation (NLT)

For I envied the proud

when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness.

They seem to live such painless lives;

their bodies are so healthy and strong.

They don’t have troubles like other people;

they’re not plagued with problems like everyone else.

They wear pride like a jeweled necklace

and clothe themselves with cruelty.

Psalm 73:3–6 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

For I was envious of the boastful,

When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

For there are no pangs in their death,

But their strength is firm.

They are not in trouble as other men,

Nor are they plagued like other men.

Therefore pride serves as their necklace;

Violence covers them like a garment.

Psalm 73:3–6 — New Century Version (NCV)

because I was jealous of proud people.

I saw wicked people doing well.

They are not suffering;

they are healthy and strong.

They don’t have troubles like the rest of us;

they don’t have problems like other people.

They wear pride like a necklace

and put on violence as their clothing.

Psalm 73:3–6 — American Standard Version (ASV)

For I was envious at the arrogant,

When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

For there are no pangs in their death;

But their strength is firm.

They are not in trouble as other men;

Neither are they plagued like other men.

Therefore pride is as a chain about their neck;

Violence covereth them as a garment.

Psalm 73:3–6 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

For I was envious at the arrogant, seeing the prosperity of the wicked. For they have no pangs in their death, and their body is well nourished; They have not the hardships of mankind, neither are they plagued like other men: Therefore pride encompasseth them as a neck-chain, violence covereth them as a garment;

Psalm 73:3–6 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

because I was envious of arrogant people

when I saw the prosperity that wicked people enjoy.

They suffer no pain.

Their bodies are healthy.

They have no drudgery in their lives like ordinary people.

They are not plagued ⸤with problems⸥ like others.

That is why they wear arrogance like a necklace

and acts of violence like clothing.

Psalm 73:3–6 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

For I envied the arrogant;

I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

They have an easy time until they die,

and their bodies are well fed.

They are not in trouble like others;

they are not afflicted like most people.

Therefore, pride is their necklace,

and violence covers them like a garment.

Psalm 73:3–6 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

For I was envious of the arrogant;

I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

For they have no pain;

their bodies are sound and sleek.

They are not in trouble as others are;

they are not plagued like other people.

Therefore pride is their necklace;

violence covers them like a garment.

Psalm 73:3–6 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

because I envied the boastful

when I saw the well-being of the wicked.

For there are no pains up to their death,

and their bodies are healthy.

They do not have ordinary trouble,

and they are not plagued as other people.

Therefore pride is their necklace;

an outfit of violence covers them.

Psalm 73:3–6 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

I saw that proud and sinful people were doing well.

And I began to long for what they had.

They don’t have any troubles.

Their bodies are healthy and strong.

They don’t have the problems others have.

They don’t suffer as other people do.

Their pride is like a necklace.

They put on meanness as if it were their clothes.

Psalm 73:3–6 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

For I was envious of the arrogant

As I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

For there are no pains in their death,

And their body is fat.

They are not in trouble as other men,

Nor are they plagued like mankind.

Therefore pride is their necklace;

The garment of violence covers them.
