Psalm 49:10–12 — The New International Version (NIV)
10 For all can see that the wise die,
that the foolish and the senseless also perish,
leaving their wealth to others.
11 Their tombs will remain their houses forever,
their dwellings for endless generations,
though they had named lands after themselves.
12 People, despite their wealth, do not endure;
they are like the beasts that perish.
Psalm 49:10–12 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
10 For he seeth that wise men die, Likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, And leave their wealth to others. 11 Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, And their dwelling places to all generations; They call their lands after their own names. 12 Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: He is like the beasts that perish.
Psalm 49:10–12 — New Living Translation (NLT)
10 Those who are wise must finally die,
just like the foolish and senseless,
leaving all their wealth behind.
11 The grave is their eternal home,
where they will stay forever.
They may name their estates after themselves,
12 but their fame will not last.
They will die, just like animals.
Psalm 49:10–12 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
10 For he sees wise men die;
Likewise the fool and the senseless person perish,
And leave their wealth to others.
11 Their inner thought is that their houses will last forever,
Their dwelling places to all generations;
They call their lands after their own names.
12 Nevertheless man, though in honor, does not remain;
He is like the beasts that perish.
Psalm 49:10–12 — New Century Version (NCV)
10 See, even wise people die.
Fools and stupid people also die
and leave their wealth to others.
11 Their graves will always be their homes.
They will live there from now on,
even though they named places after themselves.
12 Even rich people do not live forever;
like the animals, people die.
Psalm 49:10–12 — American Standard Version (ASV)
10 For he shall see it.
Wise men die;
The fool and the brutish alike perish,
And leave their wealth to others.
11 Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever,
And their dwelling-places to all generations;
They call their lands after their own names.
12 But man being in honor abideth not:
He is like the beasts that perish.
Psalm 49:10–12 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
10 For he seeth that wise men die; all alike, the fool and the brutish perish, and they leave their wealth to others. 11 Their inward thought is, that their houses are for ever, their dwelling-places from generation to generation: they call the lands after their own names. 12 Nevertheless, man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
Psalm 49:10–12 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
10 Indeed, one can see that wise people die,
that foolish and stupid people meet the same end.
They leave their riches to others.
11 Although they named their lands after themselves,
their graveshave become their homes for ages to come,
their dwelling places throughout every generation.
12 But mortals will not continue here with what they treasure.
They are like animals that die.
Psalm 49:10–12 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
10 For one can see that wise men die;
foolish and stupid men also pass away.
Then they leave their wealth to others.
11 Their graves are their eternal homes,
their homes from generation to generation,
though they have named estates after themselves.
12 But despite his assets, man will not last;
he is like the animals that perish.
Psalm 49:10–12 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
10 When we look at the wise, they die;
fool and dolt perish together
and leave their wealth to others.
11 Their graves are their homes forever,
their dwelling places to all generations,
though they named lands their own.
12 Mortals cannot abide in their pomp;
they are like the animals that perish.
Psalm 49:10–12 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)
10 For he sees that the wise die,
together with the fool and brute they perish,
and leave their wealth to the next generation.
11 Within them they think their houses are forever,
their dwelling places from generation to generation.
They name their lands by their own names.
12 But man cannot continue in his pomp.
He is like the beasts that perish.
Psalm 49:10–12 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)
10 Everyone can see that even wise people die.
Foolish and dumb people also pass away.
All of them leave their wealth to others.
11 Their graves will remain their houses forever.
Their graves will be their homes for all time to come.
Naming lands after themselves won’t help either.
12 Even though people may be very rich, they don’t live on and on.
They are like the animals. They die.
Psalm 49:10–12 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

The stupid and the senseless alike perish
And leave their wealth to others.
11 Their inner thought is that their houses are forever
And their dwelling places to all generations;
They have called their lands after their own names.
12 But man in his pomp will not endure;
He is like the beasts that perish.
