Proverbs 25:1–3 — The New International Version (NIV)

These are more proverbs of Solomon, compiled by the men of Hezekiah king of Judah:

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter;

to search out a matter is the glory of kings.

As the heavens are high and the earth is deep,

so the hearts of kings are unsearchable.

Proverbs 25:1–3 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing:

But the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

The heaven for height, and the earth for depth,

And the heart of kings is unsearchable.

Proverbs 25:1–3 — New Living Translation (NLT)

These are more proverbs of Solomon, collected by the advisers of King Hezekiah of Judah.

It is God’s privilege to conceal things

and the king’s privilege to discover them.

No one can comprehend the height of heaven, the depth of the earth,

or all that goes on in the king’s mind!

Proverbs 25:1–3 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

These also are proverbs of Solomon which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied:

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter,

But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.

As the heavens for height and the earth for depth,

So the heart of kings is unsearchable.

Proverbs 25:1–3 — New Century Version (NCV)

These are more wise sayings of Solomon, copied by the men of Hezekiah king of Judah.

God is honored for what he keeps secret.

Kings are honored for what they can discover.

No one can measure the height of the skies or the depth of the earth.

So also no one can understand the mind of a king.

Proverbs 25:1–3 — American Standard Version (ASV)

These also are proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing;

But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.

As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth,

So the heart of kings is unsearchable.

Proverbs 25:1–3 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah transcribed.

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing; but the glory of kings is to search out a thing. The heavens for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.

Proverbs 25:1–3 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

These also are Solomon’s proverbs that were copied

by the men of King Hezekiah of Judah.

It is the glory of God to hide things

but the glory of kings to investigate them.

⸤Like⸥ the high heavens and the deep earth,

so the mind of kings is unsearchable.

Proverbs 25:1–3 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

These too are proverbs of Solomon,

which the men of Hezekiah, king of Judah, copied.

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter

and the glory of kings to investigate a matter.

As the heaven is high and the earth is deep,

so the hearts of kings cannot be investigated.

Proverbs 25:1–3 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

These are other proverbs of Solomon that the officials of King Hezekiah of Judah copied.

It is the glory of God to conceal things,

but the glory of kings is to search things out.

Like the heavens for height, like the earth for depth,

so the mind of kings is unsearchable.

Proverbs 25:1–3 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

These are also proverbs of Solomon which officials of Hezekiah king of Judah copied:

The glory of God conceals things,

but the glory of kings searches out things.

As heaven is to height and the earth is to depth,

so is the heart of kings—there is no searching.

Proverbs 25:1–3 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

These are more proverbs of Solomon. They were copied down by the men of Hezekiah, the king of Judah.

When God hides a matter, he gets glory.

When kings figure out a matter, they get glory.

The heavens are high and the earth is deep.

In the same way, the minds of kings are hard to figure out.

Proverbs 25:1–3 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

These also are proverbs of Solomon which the men of Hezekiah, king of Judah, transcribed.

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter,

As the heavens for height and the earth for depth,

So the heart of kings is unsearchable.
