Proverbs 30:15–19 — The New International Version (NIV)

15 “The leech has two daughters.

‘Give! Give!’ they cry.

“There are three things that are never satisfied,

four that never say, ‘Enough!’:

16 the grave, the barren womb,

land, which is never satisfied with water,

and fire, which never says, ‘Enough!’

17 “The eye that mocks a father,

that scorns an aged mother,

will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley,

will be eaten by the vultures.

18 “There are three things that are too amazing for me,

four that I do not understand:

19 the way of an eagle in the sky,

the way of a snake on a rock,

the way of a ship on the high seas,

and the way of a man with a young woman.

Proverbs 30:15–19 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

15 The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give.

There are three things that are never satisfied,

Yea, four things say not, It is enough:

16 The grave; and the barren womb;

The earth that is not filled with water;

And the fire that saith not, It is enough.

17 The eye that mocketh at his father,

And despiseth to obey his mother,

The ravens of the valley shall pick it out,

And the young eagles shall eat it.

18 There be three things which are too wonderful for me,

Yea, four which I know not:

19 The way of an eagle in the air;

The way of a serpent upon a rock;

The way of a ship in the midst of the sea;

And the way of a man with a maid.

Proverbs 30:15–19 — New Living Translation (NLT)

15 The leech has two suckers

that cry out, “More, more!”

There are three things that are never satisfied—

no, four that never say, “Enough!”:

16 the grave,

the barren womb,

the thirsty desert,

the blazing fire.

17 The eye that mocks a father

and despises a mother’s instructions

will be plucked out by ravens of the valley

and eaten by vultures.

18 There are three things that amaze me—

no, four things that I don’t understand:

19 how an eagle glides through the sky,

how a snake slithers on a rock,

how a ship navigates the ocean,

how a man loves a woman.

Proverbs 30:15–19 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

15 The leech has two daughters—

Give and Give!

There are three things that are never satisfied,

Four never say, “Enough!”:

16 The grave,

The barren womb,

The earth that is not satisfied with water—

And the fire never says, “Enough!”

17 The eye that mocks his father,

And scorns obedience to his mother,

The ravens of the valley will pick it out,

And the young eagles will eat it.

18 There are three things which are too wonderful for me,

Yes, four which I do not understand:

19 The way of an eagle in the air,

The way of a serpent on a rock,

The way of a ship in the midst of the sea,

And the way of a man with a virgin.

Proverbs 30:15–19 — New Century Version (NCV)

15 “Greed has two daughters

named ‘Give’ and ‘Give.’

There are three things that are never satisfied,

really four that never say, ‘I’ve had enough!’:

16 the cemetery, the childless mother,

the land that never gets enough rain,

and fire that never says, ‘I’ve had enough!’

17 “If you make fun of your father

and refuse to obey your mother,

the birds of the valley will peck out your eyes,

and the vultures will eat them.

18 “There are three things that are too hard for me,

really four I don’t understand:

19 the way an eagle flies in the sky,

the way a snake slides over a rock,

the way a ship sails on the sea,

and the way a man and a woman fall in love.

Proverbs 30:15–19 — American Standard Version (ASV)

15 The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give.

There are three things that are never satisfied,

Yea, four that say not, Enough:

16 Sheol; and the barren womb;

The earth that is not satisfied with water;

And the fire that saith not, Enough.

17 The eye that mocketh at his father,

And despiseth to obey his mother,

The ravens of the valley shall pick it out,

And the young eagles shall eat it.

18 There are three things which are too wonderful for me,

Yea, four which I know not:

19 The way of an eagle in the air;

The way of a serpent upon a rock;

The way of a ship in the midst of the sea;

And the way of a man with a maiden.

Proverbs 30:15–19 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

15 The leech hath two daughters: Give, give. There are three things never satisfied; four which say not, It is enough: 16 —Sheol, and the barren womb; the earth which is not filled with water, and the fire which saith not, It is enough. 17 The eye that mocketh at a father, and despiseth to obey a mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

18 There are three things too wonderful for me, and four that I know not: 19 The way of an eagle in the heavens, the way of a serpent upon a rock, the way of a ship in the midst of the sea, and the way of a man with a maid.

Proverbs 30:15–19 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

15 The bloodsucking leech has two daughters—“Give!” and “Give!”

Three things are never satisfied.

Four never say, “Enough!”:

16 the grave,

a barren womb,

a land that never gets enough water,

a fire that does not say, “Enough!”

17 The eye that makes fun of a father and hates to obey a mother

will be plucked out by ravens in the valley and eaten by young vultures.

18 Three things are too amazing to me,

even four that I cannot understand:

19 an eagle making its way through the sky,

a snake making its way over a rock,

a ship making its way through high seas,

a man making his way with a virgin.

Proverbs 30:15–19 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

15 The leech has two daughters: “Give, Give!”

Three things are never satisfied;

four never say, “Enough!”:

16 Sheol; a childless womb;

earth, which is never satisfied with water;

and fire, which never says, “Enough!”

17 As for the eye that ridicules a father

and despises obedience to a mother,

may ravens of the valley pluck it out

and young vultures eat it.

18 Three things are beyond me;

four I can’t understand:

19 the way of an eagle in the sky,

the way of a snake on a rock,

the way of a ship at sea,

and the way of a man with a young woman.

Proverbs 30:15–19 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

15 The leech has two daughters;

“Give, give,” they cry.

Three things are never satisfied;

four never say, “Enough”:

16 Sheol, the barren womb,

the earth ever thirsty for water,

and the fire that never says, “Enough.”

17 The eye that mocks a father

and scorns to obey a mother

will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley

and eaten by the vultures.

18 Three things are too wonderful for me;

four I do not understand:

19 the way of an eagle in the sky,

the way of a snake on a rock,

the way of a ship on the high seas,

and the way of a man with a girl.

Proverbs 30:15–19 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

15 For the leech, there are two daughters;

“Give, give!” they cry.

As for three of these, they are not satisfied;

as for four, they do not say enough.

16 Sheol and barrenness of womb,

the land is not satisfied with water,

and fire does not say “enough!”

17 The eye that mocks a father

and scorns the obedience of a mother—

the ravens of the valley will peck it out,

and the offspring of vultures will eat it.

18 Three of these are too wonderful for me,

and four, I do not understand them:

19 the way of the eagle in the sky,

the way of a snake on a rock,

the way of a ship in the heart of the sea,

and the way of a man with a young woman.

Proverbs 30:15–19 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

15 “A bloodsucking worm has two daughters.

They cry out, ‘Give! Give!’

“Three things are never satisfied.

Four things never say, ‘Enough!’

16 The first is the grave.

The second is a woman who can’t have a baby.

The third is land. It never gets enough water.

And the fourth is fire. It never says, ‘Enough!’

17 “Some make fun of their fathers.

Others laugh about obeying their mothers.

The ravens of the valley will peck their eyes out.

Then the vultures will eat them.

18 “Three things are too amazing for me.

There are four things I don’t understand.

19 The first is the way of an eagle in the sky.

The second is the way of a snake on a rock.

The third is the way of a ship on the ocean.

And the fourth is the way of a man with a young woman.

Proverbs 30:15–19 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

15 The leech has two daughters,

Give,” “Give.”

There are three things that will not be satisfied,

Four that will not say, “Enough”:

16 Sheol, and the barren womb,

Earth that is never satisfied with water,

And fire that never says, “Enough.”

17 The eye that mocks a father

And scorns a mother,

The ravens of the valley will pick it out,

And the young eagles will eat it.

18 There are three things which are too wonderful for me,

Four which I do not understand:

19 The way of an eagle in the sky,

The way of a serpent on a rock,

The way of a ship in the middle of the sea,

And the way of a man with a maid.
