Nahum 1:11–14

11 From you, Nineveh, has one come forth

who plots evil against the Lord

and devises wicked plans.

12 This is what the Lord says:

“Although they have allies and are numerous,

they will be destroyed and pass away.

Although I have afflicted you, Judah,

I will afflict you no more.

13 Now I will break their yoke from your neck

and tear your shackles away.”

14 The Lord has given a command concerning you, Nineveh:

“You will have no descendants to bear your name.

I will destroy the images and idols

that are in the temple of your gods.

I will prepare your grave,

for you are vile.”

11 There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the Lord,

A wicked counseller.

12 Thus saith the Lord;

Though they be quiet, and likewise many,

Yet thus shall they be cut down, when he shall pass through.

Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.

13 For now will I break his yoke from off thee,

And will burst thy bonds in sunder.

14 And the Lord hath given a commandment concerning thee,

That no more of thy name be sown:

Out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image:

I will make thy grave; for thou art vile.

11 Who is this wicked counselor of yours

who plots evil against the Lord?

12 This is what the Lord says:

“Though the Assyrians have many allies,

they will be destroyed and disappear.

O my people, I have punished you before,

but I will not punish you again.

13 Now I will break the yoke of bondage from your neck

and tear off the chains of Assyrian oppression.”

14 And this is what the Lord says concerning the Assyrians in Nineveh:

“You will have no more children to carry on your name.

I will destroy all the idols in the temples of your gods.

I am preparing a grave for you

because you are despicable!”

11 From you comes forth one

Who plots evil against the Lord,

A wicked counselor.

12 Thus says the Lord:

“Though they are safe, and likewise many,

Yet in this manner they will be cut down

When he passes through.

Though I have afflicted you,

I will afflict you no more;

13 For now I will break off his yoke from you,

And burst your bonds apart.”

14 The Lord has given a command concerning you:

“Your name shall be perpetuated no longer.

Out of the house of your gods

I will cut off the carved image and the molded image.

I will dig your grave,

For you are vile.”

11 Someone has come from Nineveh

who makes evil plans against the Lord

and gives wicked advice.

12 This is what the Lord says:

“Although Assyria is strong and has many people,

it will be defeated and brought to an end.

Although I have made you suffer, Judah,

I will make you suffer no more.

13 Now I will free you from their control

and tear away your chains.”

14 The Lord has given you this command, Nineveh:

“You will not have descendants to carry on your name.

I will destroy the idols and metal images

that are in the temple of your gods.

I will make a grave for you,

because you are wicked.”

11 There is one gone forth out of thee, that deviseth evil against Jehovah, that counselleth wickedness. 12 Thus saith Jehovah: Though they be in full strength, and likewise many, even so shall they be cut down, and he shall pass away. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more. 13 And now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.

14 And Jehovah hath given commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image; I will make thy grave; for thou art vile.

11 Out of thee is gone forth one that imagineth evil against Jehovah, a wicked counsellor. 12 Thus saith Jehovah: Though they be complete in number, and many as they be, even so shall they be cut down, and he shall pass away; and though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more. 13 And now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds asunder. 14 And Jehovah hath given commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy god will I cut off the graven image, and the molten image: I will prepare thy grave; for thou art vile.

11 From you, Nineveh, a person who plans evil against the Lord sets out. 

His advice is wicked. 

12 This is what the Lord says: 

Though the people of Nineveh are physically fit and many in number, 

they will be cut down and die. 

Though I have humbled you, Judah, 

I will not humble you again. 

13 But now I will break Nineveh’s yokeoff of you 

and tear its chains from you. 

14 The Lord has given this command about you, Nineveh: 

You will no longer have descendants to carry on your name. 

I will remove the wooden and metal idols from the temple of your gods. 

I will prepare your grave because you are worthless.

11 One has gone out from you,

who plots evil against Yahweh,

and is a wicked counselor.

12 This is what the Lord says:

Though they are strong and numerous,

they will still be mowed down,

and he will pass away.

Though I have afflicted you,

I will afflict you no longer.

13 For I will now break off his yoke from you

and tear off your shackles.

14 The Lord has issued an order concerning you:

There will be no offspring

to carry on your name.

I will eliminate the carved idol and cast image

from the house of your gods;

I will prepare your grave,

for you are contemptible.

11 From you one has gone out

one who counsels wickedness.

12 Thus says the Lord:

Though they are at full strength and many,

they will be cut off and pass away.

Though I have afflicted you,

I will afflict you no more.

13 And now I will break off his yoke from you

and snap the bonds that bind you.

14 The Lord has commanded concerning you:

Your name shall be perpetuated no longer;

from the house of your gods I will cut off

the carved image and the cast image.

I will prepare your grave, for you are worthless.

11 From you goes out one who plots evil against Yahweh,

one who plans wickedness.

12 Yahweh says this:

“Even though they are powerful and likewise many,

even so they will be cut off and pass away.

Though I have afflicted you,

I will afflict you no longer.

13 And now, I will break his yoke from upon you;

I will snap your bonds.”

14 Yahweh has commanded concerning you:

“Your name will no longer be sown.

I will cut off the idols and images from the temple of your gods;

I will send you to the grave because you are worthless.”

11 Nineveh, a king has marched out from you.

He makes evil plans against the Lord.

He gives harmful advice.

12 The Lord says,

“His army has many soldiers.

Other nations are helping them.

But they will be cut off and pass away.

Judah, I punished you.

But I will not do it anymore.

13 Now I will break Assyria’s yoke off your neck.

I will tear off the ropes that hold you.”

14 Nineveh, the Lord has given an order concerning you.

He has said, “You will not have any children

to carry on your name.

I will destroy the wooden and metal statues

that are in the temple of your gods.

I will get your grave ready for you.

You are worthless.”

A wicked counselor.

12 Thus says the Lord,

“Though they are at full strength and likewise many,

Even so, they will be cut off and pass away.

Though I have afflicted you,

I will afflict you no longer.

13 “So now, I will break his yoke bar from upon you,

And I will tear off your shackles.”

14 The Lord has issued a command concerning you:

“Your name will no longer be perpetuated.

I will cut off idol and image

From the house of your gods.

I will prepare your grave,

For you are contemptible.”
