Nahum 1:5–10 — New International Version (2011) (NIV)
5 The mountains quake before him
and the hills melt away.
The earth trembles at his presence,
the world and all who live in it.
6 Who can withstand his indignation?
Who can endure his fierce anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire;
the rocks are shattered before him.
7 The Lord is good,
a refuge in times of trouble.
He cares for those who trust in him,
8 but with an overwhelming flood
he will make an end of Nineveh;
he will pursue his foes into the realm of darkness.
9 Whatever they plot against the Lord
he will bring to an end;
trouble will not come a second time.
10 They will be entangled among thorns
and drunk from their wine;
they will be consumed like dry stubble.
Nahum 1:5–10 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
5 The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt,
And the earth is burned at his presence,
Yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.
6 Who can stand before his indignation?
And who can abide in the fierceness of his anger?
His fury is poured out like fire,
And the rocks are thrown down by him.
7 The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble;
And he knoweth them that trust in him.
8 But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof,
And darkness shall pursue his enemies.
9 What do ye imagine against the Lord?
He will make an utter end:
Affliction shall not rise up the second time.
10 For while they be folden together as thorns,
And while they are drunken as drunkards,
They shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.
Nahum 1:5–10 — New Living Translation (NLT)
5 In his presence the mountains quake,
and the hills melt away;
the earth trembles,
and its people are destroyed.
6 Who can stand before his fierce anger?
Who can survive his burning fury?
His rage blazes forth like fire,
and the mountains crumble to dust in his presence.
7 The Lord is good,
a strong refuge when trouble comes.
He is close to those who trust in him.
8 But he will sweep away his enemies
in an overwhelming flood.
He will pursue his foes
into the darkness of night.
9 Why are you scheming against the Lord?
He will destroy you with one blow;
he won’t need to strike twice!
10 His enemies, tangled like thornbushes
and staggering like drunks,
will be burned up like dry stubble in a field.
Nahum 1:5–10 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
5 The mountains quake before Him,
The hills melt,
And the earth heaves at His presence,
Yes, the world and all who dwell in it.
6 Who can stand before His indignation?
And who can endure the fierceness of His anger?
His fury is poured out like fire,
And the rocks are thrown down by Him.
7 The Lord is good,
A stronghold in the day of trouble;
And He knows those who trust in Him.
8 But with an overflowing flood
He will make an utter end of its place,
And darkness will pursue His enemies.
9 What do you conspire against the Lord?
He will make an utter end of it.
Affliction will not rise up a second time.
10 For while tangled like thorns,
And while drunken like drunkards,
They shall be devoured like stubble fully dried.
Nahum 1:5–10 — New Century Version (NCV)
5 The mountains shake in front of him,
and the hills melt.
The earth trembles when he comes;
the world and all who live in it shake with fear.
6 No one can stay alive when he is angry;
no one can survive his strong anger.
His anger is poured out like fire;
the rocks are smashed by him.
7 The Lord is good,
giving protection in times of trouble.
He knows who trusts in him.
8 But like a rushing flood,
he will completely destroy Nineveh;
he will chase his enemies until he kills them.
9 The Lord will completely destroy
anyone making plans against him.
Trouble will not come a second time.
10 Those people will be like tangled thorns
or like people drunk from their wine;
they will be burned up quickly like dry weeds.
Nahum 1:5–10 — American Standard Version (ASV)
5 The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt; and the earth is upheaved at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein. 6 Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken asunder by him. 7 Jehovah is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that take refuge in him. 8 But with an over-running flood he will make a full end of her place, and will pursue his enemies into darkness.
9 What do ye devise against Jehovah? he will make a full end; affliction shall not rise up the second time. 10 For entangled like thorns, and drunken as with their drink, they are consumed utterly as dry stubble.
Nahum 1:5–10 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
5 The mountains quake before him, and the hills melt, and the earth is upheaved at his presence, and the world, and all that dwell therein. 6 Who shall stand before his indignation? and who shall abide in the fierceness of his anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken asunder by him. 7 Jehovah is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him. 8 But with an overrunning flood he will make a full end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
9 What do ye imagine against Jehovah? He will make a full end: trouble shall not rise up the second time. 10 Though they be tangled together as thorns, and be as drenched from their drink, they shall be devoured as dry stubble, completely.
Nahum 1:5–10 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
5 The mountains quake because of him.
The hills melt.
The earth draws back in his presence.
The world and all who live in it draw back as well.
6 Who can stand in the presence of his rage?
Who can oppose his burning anger?
He pours out his rage like fire
and smashes the rocky cliffs.
7 The Lord is good.
⸤He is⸥ a fortress in the day of trouble.
He knows those who seek shelter in him.
8 He will put an end to Nineveh
with a devastating flood.
He will pursue his enemies with darkness.
9 What do you think about the Lord?
He is the one who will bring Nineveh to an end.
This trouble will never happen again.
10 ⸤The people of Nineveh will be⸥ like tangled thorns
and like people drunk on their own drink.
They will be completely burned up like very dry straw.
Nahum 1:5–10 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

the earth trembles at His presence—
the world and all who live in it.

Who can endure His burning anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire,
even rocks are shattered before Him.
7 The Lord is good,
a stronghold in a day of distress;
He cares for those who take refuge in Him.
8 But He will completely destroy Nineveh
with an overwhelming flood,
and He will chase His enemies into darkness.
9 Whatever you plot against the Lord,
He will bring it to complete destruction;
oppression will not rise up a second time.
10 For they will be consumed
like entangled thorns,
like the drink of a drunkard
and like straw that is fully dry.

His wrath is poured out like fire;
rocks are shattered before him.

Nahum 1:5–10 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)
5 He causes the mountains to shake.
The hills melt away.
The earth trembles because he is there.
So do the world and all those who live in it.

Who can live when he is angry?
His anger blazes out like fire.
He smashes the rocks to pieces.
7 The Lord is good.
When people are in trouble,
they can go to him for safety.
He takes good care of those
who trust in him.

with a powerful flood.
He will chase his enemies
into the darkness of punishment.
9 The Lord will put an end
to anything they plan against him.
He won’t allow Assyria to win the battle
over his people a second time.

Their wine will make them drunk.
They’ll be burned up like dry straw.
Nahum 1:5–10 — New American Standard Bible (1995) (NASB95)

And the hills dissolve;

The world and all the inhabitants in it.

Who can endure the burning of His anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire
And the rocks are broken up by Him.
7 The Lord is good,
A stronghold in the day of trouble,
And He knows those who take refuge in Him.
8 But with an overflowing flood
He will make a complete end of its site,
And will pursue His enemies into darkness.
9 Whatever you devise against the Lord,
He will make a complete end of it.
Distress will not rise up twice.
10 Like tangled thorns,
And like those who are drunken with their drink,
They are consumed
As stubble completely withered.
