Micah 1:8–11

8 Because of this I will weep and wail;

I will go about barefoot and naked.

I will howl like a jackal

and moan like an owl.

9 For Samaria’s plague is incurable;

it has spread to Judah.

It has reached the very gate of my people,

even to Jerusalem itself.

10 Tell it not in Gath;

weep not at all.

In Beth Ophrah

roll in the dust.

11 Pass by naked and in shame,

you who live in Shaphir.

Those who live in Zaanan

will not come out.

Beth Ezel is in mourning;

it no longer protects you.

8 Therefore I will wail and howl,

I will go stripped and naked:

I will make a wailing like the dragons,

And mourning as the owls.

9 For her wound is incurable;

For it is come unto Judah;

He is come unto the gate of my people, even to Jerusalem.

10 Declare ye it not at Gath, weep ye not at all:

In the house of Aphrah roll thyself in the dust.

11 Pass ye away, thou inhabitant of Saphir, having thy shame naked:

The inhabitant of Zaanan came not forth in the mourning of Beth-ezel;

He shall receive of you his standing.

8 Therefore, I will mourn and lament.

I will walk around barefoot and naked.

I will howl like a jackal

and moan like an owl.

9 For my people’s wound

is too deep to heal.

It has reached into Judah,

even to the gates of Jerusalem.

10 Don’t tell our enemies in Gath;

don’t weep at all.

You people in Beth-leaphrah,

roll in the dust to show your despair.

11 You people in Shaphir,

go as captives into exile—naked and ashamed.

The people of Zaanan

dare not come outside their walls.

The people of Beth-ezel mourn,

for their house has no support.

8 Therefore I will wail and howl,

I will go stripped and naked;

I will make a wailing like the jackals

And a mourning like the ostriches,

9 For her wounds are incurable.

For it has come to Judah;

It has come to the gate of My people—

To Jerusalem.

10 Tell it not in Gath,

Weep not at all;

In Beth Aphrah

Roll yourself in the dust.

11 Pass by in naked shame, you inhabitant of Shaphir;

The inhabitant of Zaanan does not go out.

Beth Ezel mourns;

Its place to stand is taken away from you.

8 I will moan and cry because of this evil,

going around barefoot and naked.

I will cry loudly like the wild dogs

and make sad sounds like the owls do,

9 because Samaria’s wound cannot be healed.

It will spread to Judah;

it will reach the city gate of my people,

all the way to Jerusalem.

10 Don’t tell it in Gath.

Don’t cry in Acco.

Roll in the dust

at Beth Ophrah.

11 Pass on your way, naked and ashamed,

you who live in Shaphir.

Those who live in Zaanan

won’t come out.

The people in Beth Ezel will cry,

but they will not give you any support.

8 For this will I lament and wail; I will go stripped and naked; I will make a wailing like the jackals, and a lamentation like the ostriches. 9 For her wounds are incurable; for it is come even unto Judah; it reacheth unto the gate of my people, even to Jerusalem. 10 Tell it not in Gath, weep not at all: at Beth-le-aphrah have I rolled myself in the dust. 11 Pass away, O inhabitant of Shaphir, in nakedness and shame: the inhabitant of Zaanan is not come forth; the wailing of Beth-ezel shall take from you the stay thereof.

The inhabitress of Zaanan is not come forth for the lamentation of Beth-ezel: he will take from you its shelter.

9 Samaria’s wounds are incurable. 

⸤The news about Samaria⸥ will come to Judah. 

It will reach the gates of my people in Jerusalem. 

10 Don’t report it in Gath. Don’t cry there. 

Roll in the dust of Beth Leaphrah.

11 Pass by, naked and ashamed, inhabitants of Shaphir. 

Don’t come out, inhabitants of Zaanan. 

Beth Ezel is in mourning. 

It will take its support away from you.

as far as Jerusalem.

10 Don’t announce it in Gath,

11 Depart in shameful nakedness,

you residents of Shaphir;

the residents of Zaanan will not come out.

Beth-ezel is lamenting;

its support is taken from you.

8 For this I will lament and wail;

and mourning like the ostriches.

9 For her wound is incurable.

It has come to Judah;

it has reached to the gate of my people,

to Jerusalem.

inhabitants of Shaphir,

in nakedness and shame;

the inhabitants of Zaanan

do not come forth;

Beth-ezel is wailing

and shall remove its support from you.

8 On account of this I will lament and wail.

I will go about barefoot and naked.

I will make a lamentation like the jackals,

and a mourning ceremony like the ostriches.

9 For her wounds are incurable,

because it has come to Judah.

It has reached to the gate of my people, to Jerusalem.

10 Do not tell it in Gath;

you must not weep at all.

In Beth-le-Aphrah

roll yourself in dust.

11 Pass on, you inhabitants of Shaphir,

in naked shame.

The inhabitants of Zaanan do not come forth;

the wailing of Beth-ha-Ezel will take its protection from you.

8 I will sob and cry because Samaria will be destroyed.

I’ll walk around barefoot.

I won’t have anything on but my underwear.

I’ll bark like a wild dog.

I’ll hoot like an owl.

9 Samaria’s wounds can’t be healed.

The Lord will also judge Judah.

Enemies will march up to the very gate of my people.

They will reach Jerusalem itself.

10 Don’t tell the people of Gath about it.

Don’t let them see you sob.

People in Beth Ophrah, roll in the dust.

11 You who live in the town of Shaphir,

leave in shame and without your clothes.

Those who live in Zaanan

won’t come out to help you.

The people in Beth Ezel will sob.

They won’t be able to help keep you safe.

8 Because of this I must lament and wail,

I must go barefoot and naked;

I must make a lament like the jackals

And a mourning like the ostriches.

9 For her wound is incurable,

For it has come to Judah;

It has reached the gate of my people,

Even to Jerusalem.

10 Tell it not in Gath,

Weep not at all.

At Beth-le-aphrah roll yourself in the dust.

11 Go on your way, inhabitant of Shaphir, in shameful nakedness.

The inhabitant of Zaanan does not escape.

The lamentation of Beth-ezel: “He will take from you its support.”
