Job 33:8–13 — The New International Version (NIV)

“But you have said in my hearing—

I heard the very words—

‘I am pure, I have done no wrong;

I am clean and free from sin.

10 Yet God has found fault with me;

he considers me his enemy.

11 He fastens my feet in shackles;

he keeps close watch on all my paths.’

12 “But I tell you, in this you are not right,

for God is greater than any mortal.

13 Why do you complain to him

that he responds to no one’s words?

Job 33:8–13 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing,

And I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,

I am clean without transgression,

I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.

10 Behold, he findeth occasions against me,

He counteth me for his enemy,

11 He putteth my feet in the stocks,

He marketh all my paths.

12 Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee,

That God is greater than man.

13 Why dost thou strive against him?

For he giveth not account of any of his matters.

Job 33:8–13 — New Living Translation (NLT)

“You have spoken in my hearing,

and I have heard your very words.

You said, ‘I am pure; I am without sin;

I am innocent; I have no guilt.

10 God is picking a quarrel with me,

and he considers me his enemy.

11 He puts my feet in the stocks

and watches my every move.’

12 “But you are wrong, and I will show you why.

For God is greater than any human being.

13 So why are you bringing a charge against him?

Why say he does not respond to people’s complaints?

Job 33:8–13 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

“Surely you have spoken in my hearing,

And I have heard the sound of your words, saying,

‘I am pure, without transgression;

I am innocent, and there is no iniquity in me.

10 Yet He finds occasions against me,

He counts me as His enemy;

11 He puts my feet in the stocks,

He watches all my paths.’

12 “Look, in this you are not righteous.

I will answer you,

For God is greater than man.

13 Why do you contend with Him?

For He does not give an accounting of any of His words.

Job 33:8–13 — New Century Version (NCV)

“But I heard what you have said;

I heard every word.

You said, ‘I am pure and without sin;

I am innocent and free from guilt.

10 But God has found fault with me;

he considers me his enemy.

11 He locks my feet in chains

and closely watches everywhere I go.’

12 “But I tell you, you are not right in saying this,

because God is greater than we are.

13 Why do you accuse God

of not answering anyone?

Job 33:8–13 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Surely thou hast spoken in my hearing,

And I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,

I am clean, without transgression;

I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me:

10 Behold, he findeth occasions against me,

He counteth me for his enemy:

11 He putteth my feet in the stocks,

He marketh all my paths.

12 Behold, I will answer thee, in this thou art not just;

For God is greater than man.

13 Why dost thou strive against him,

For that he giveth not account of any of his matters?

Job 33:8–13 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Surely thou hast spoken in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words: — I am clean without transgression; I am pure, and there is no iniquity in me; 10 Lo, he findeth occasions of hostility against me, he counteth me for his enemy; 11 He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths. 12 Behold, I will answer thee in this, thou art not right; for †God is greater than man. 13 Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.

Job 33:8–13 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

“But you spoke directly to me,

and I listened to your words.

⸤You said,⸥ ‘I’m pure—without any rebellious acts ⸤against God⸥.

I’m clean; I have no sin.

10 God is only looking for an excuse to attack me.

He considers me his enemy.

11 He puts my feet in the stocks and watches all my paths.’

12 You aren’t right about this!

I’ve got an answer for you:

God is greater than any mortal.

13 Why do you quarrel with him

since he doesn’t answer any questions?

Job 33:8–13 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Surely you have spoken in my hearing,

and I have heard these very words:

“I am pure, without transgression;

I am clean and have no guilt.

10 But He finds reasons to oppose me;

He regards me as His enemy.

11 He puts my feet in the stocks;

He stands watch over all my paths.”

12 But I tell you that you are wrong in this matter,

since God is greater than man.

13 Why do you take Him to court

for not answering anything a person asks?

Job 33:8–13 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

“Surely, you have spoken in my hearing,

and I have heard the sound of your words.

You say, ‘I am clean, without transgression;

I am pure, and there is no iniquity in me.

10 Look, he finds occasions against me,

he counts me as his enemy;

11 he puts my feet in the stocks,

and watches all my paths.’

12 “But in this you are not right. I will answer you:

God is greater than any mortal.

13 Why do you contend against him,

saying, ‘He will answer none of my words’?

Job 33:8–13 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

“Surely you have spoken in my ears,

and I have heard the sound of your words:

‘I am clean, without transgression;

I am pure, and there is no guilt in me.

10 Look, he finds fault against me;

he reckons me as his enemy;

11 he puts my feet in the block;

he watches all my paths.’

12 “Look, in this you are not right—I will answer you:

Indeed, God is greater than a human being.

13 Why do you contend against him,

that he will not answer all a person’s words?

Job 33:8–13 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

“But I heard what you said.

And here are the exact words I heard.

You said, ‘I’m pure. I haven’t sinned in the ways you have charged.

I’m clean. I’m not guilty of doing anything wrong.

10 But God has found fault with me.

He thinks I’m his enemy.

11 He puts my feet in chains.

He watches every step I take.’

12 “But I’m telling you that you aren’t right when you talk like that.

After all, God is greater than a mere man.

13 Why do you claim that God

never answers any of our questions?

Job 33:8–13 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

Surely you have spoken in my hearing,

And I have heard the sound of your words:

‘I am pure, without transgression;

I am innocent and there is no guilt in me.

10 Behold, He invents pretexts against me;

He counts me as His enemy.

11 ‘He puts my feet in the stocks;

He watches all my paths.’

12 Behold, let me tell you, you are not right in this,

For God is greater than man.

13 Why do you complain against Him

That He does not give an account of all His doings?
