Job 31:1–4 — The New International Version (NIV)

“I made a covenant with my eyes

not to look lustfully at a young woman.

For what is our lot from God above,

our heritage from the Almighty on high?

Is it not ruin for the wicked,

disaster for those who do wrong?

Does he not see my ways

and count my every step?

Job 31:1–4 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

I made a covenant with mine eyes;

Why then should I think upon a maid?

For what portion of God is there from above?

And what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

Is not destruction to the wicked?

And a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

Doth not he see my ways,

And count all my steps?

Job 31:1–4 — New Living Translation (NLT)

“I made a covenant with my eyes

not to look with lust at a young woman.

For what has God above chosen for us?

What is our inheritance from the Almighty on high?

Isn’t it calamity for the wicked

and misfortune for those who do evil?

Doesn’t he see everything I do

and every step I take?

Job 31:1–4 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

“I have made a covenant with my eyes;

Why then should I look upon a young woman?

For what is the allotment of God from above,

And the inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

Is it not destruction for the wicked,

And disaster for the workers of iniquity?

Does He not see my ways,

And count all my steps?

Job 31:1–4 — New Century Version (NCV)

“But I made an agreement with my eyes

not to look with desire at a girl.

What has God above promised for people?

What has the Almighty planned from on high?

It is ruin for evil people

and disaster for those who do wrong.

God sees my ways

and counts every step I take.

Job 31:1–4 — American Standard Version (ASV)

I made a covenant with mine eyes;

How then should I look upon a virgin?

For what is the portion from God above,

And the heritage from the Almighty on high?

Is it not calamity to the unrighteous,

And disaster to the workers of iniquity?

Doth not he see my ways,

And number all my steps?

Job 31:1–4 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

I made a covenant with mine eyes; and how should I fix my regard upon a maid? For what would have been my portion of †God from above, and what the heritage of the Almighty from on high? Is not calamity for the unrighteous? and misfortune for the workers of iniquity? Doth not he see my ways, and number all my steps?

Job 31:1–4 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

“I have made an agreement with my eyes.

Then how can I look with lust at a virgin?

What would God above do ⸤to me⸥?

What would be my inheritance from the Almighty on high?

Aren’t there catastrophes for wicked people

and disasters for those who do wrong?

Doesn’t he see my ways

and count all my steps?

Job 31:1–4 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

I have made a covenant with my eyes.

How then could I look at a young woman?

For what portion would I have from God above,

Doesn’t disaster come to the unjust

and misfortune to evildoers?

Does He not see my ways

and number all my steps?

Job 31:1–4 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

“I have made a covenant with my eyes;

how then could I look upon a virgin?

What would be my portion from God above,

and my heritage from the Almighty on high?

Does not calamity befall the unrighteous,

and disaster the workers of iniquity?

Does he not see my ways,

and number all my steps?

Job 31:1–4 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

“I made a covenant with my eyes,

so how could I look closely upon a virgin?

And what is the portion of God from above

Is not disaster for the evil one

and ruin for the workers of mischief?

Does he not see my ways

and count all my steps?

Job 31:1–4 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

“I made an agreement with my eyes.

I promised not to look at another woman with sexual longing.

What do human beings receive from God above?

What do they get from the Mighty One in heaven?

Sinful people are destroyed.

Trouble comes to those who do what is wrong.

Doesn’t God see how I live?

Doesn’t he count every step I take?

Job 31:1–4 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

How then could I gaze at a virgin?

“Is it not calamity to the unjust

And disaster to those who work iniquity?

“Does He not see my ways

And number all my steps?
