Job 30:8–10

8 A base and nameless brood,

they were driven out of the land.

9 “And now those young men mock me in song;

I have become a byword among them.

10 They detest me and keep their distance;

they do not hesitate to spit in my face.

8 They were children of fools, yea, children of base men:

They were viler than the earth.

9 And now am I their song,

Yea, I am their byword.

10 They abhor me, they flee far from me,

And spare not to spit in my face.

8 They are nameless fools,

outcasts from society.

9 “And now they mock me with vulgar songs!

They taunt me!

10 They despise me and won’t come near me,

except to spit in my face.

8 They were sons of fools,

Yes, sons of vile men;

They were scourged from the land.

9 “And now I am their taunting song;

Yes, I am their byword.

10 They abhor me, they keep far from me;

They do not hesitate to spit in my face.

8 They are worthless people without names

and were forced to leave the land.

9 “Now they make fun of me with songs;

my name is a joke among them.

10 They hate me and stay far away from me,

but they do not mind spitting in my face.

8 They are children of fools, yea, children of base men;

They were scouraged out of the land.

9 And now I am become their song,

Yea, I am a byword unto them.

10 They abhor me, they stand aloof from me,

And spare not to spit in my face.

8 Sons of fools, and sons of nameless sires, they are driven out of the land. 9 And now I am their song, yea, I am their byword. 10 They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, yea, they spare not to spit in my face.

8 Godless fools and worthless people 

are forced out of the land with whips. 

9 “And now they make fun of me with songs. 

I have become a joke to them. 

10 Since they consider me disgusting, they keep their distance from me 

and don’t hesitate to spit in my face. 

8 Foolish men, without even a name.

They were forced to leave the land.

9 Now I am mocked by their songs;

I have become an object of scorn to them.

10 They despise me and keep their distance from me;

they do not hesitate to spit in my face.

8 A senseless, disreputable brood,

they have been whipped out of the land.

9 “And now they mock me in song;

I am a byword to them.

10 They abhor me; they keep aloof from me;

they do not hesitate to spit at the sight of me.

8 A senseless crowd, yes, a disreputable brood,

they were cast out from the land.

9 “But now I am their mocking song,

and I have become a byword for them.

10 They abhor me; they keep aloof from me,

and they do not withhold spit from my face

8 They were so foolish that no one respected them.

They were driven out of the land.

9 “Now their children laugh at me.

They make fun of me with their songs.

10 They hate me. They stay away from me.

They even dare to spit in my face.

8 “Fools, even those without a name,

They were scourged from the land.

9 “And now I have become their taunt,

I have even become a byword to them.

10 “They abhor me and stand aloof from me,

And they do not refrain from spitting at my face.
