Job 20:17–20 — The New International Version (NIV)

17 He will not enjoy the streams,

the rivers flowing with honey and cream.

18 What he toiled for he must give back uneaten;

he will not enjoy the profit from his trading.

19 For he has oppressed the poor and left them destitute;

he has seized houses he did not build.

20 “Surely he will have no respite from his craving;

he cannot save himself by his treasure.

Job 20:17–20 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

17 He shall not see the rivers,

The floods, the brooks of honey and butter.

18 That which he laboured for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down:

According to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice therein.

19 Because he hath oppressed and hath forsaken the poor;

Because he hath violently taken away an house which he builded not;

20 Surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly,

He shall not save of that which he desired.

Job 20:17–20 — New Living Translation (NLT)

17 They will never again enjoy streams of olive oil

or rivers of milk and honey.

18 They will give back everything they worked for.

Their wealth will bring them no joy.

19 For they oppressed the poor and left them destitute.

They foreclosed on their homes.

20 They were always greedy and never satisfied.

Nothing remains of all the things they dreamed about.

Job 20:17–20 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

17 He will not see the streams,

The rivers flowing with honey and cream.

18 He will restore that for which he labored,

And will not swallow it down;

From the proceeds of business

He will get no enjoyment.

19 For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor,

He has violently seized a house which he did not build.

20 “Because he knows no quietness in his heart,

He will not save anything he desires.

Job 20:17–20 — New Century Version (NCV)

17 They will not admire the sparkling streams

or the rivers flowing with honey and cream.

18 They must give back what they worked for without eating it;

they will not enjoy the money they made from their trading,

19 because they troubled the poor and left them with nothing.

They have taken houses they did not build.

20 “Evil people never lack an appetite,

and nothing escapes their selfishness.

Job 20:17–20 — American Standard Version (ASV)

17 He shall not look upon the rivers,

The flowing streams of honey and butter.

18 That which he labored for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down;

According to the substance that he hath gotten, he shall not rejoice.

19 For he hath oppressed and forsaken the poor;

He hath violently taken away a house, and he shall not build it up.

20 Because he knew no quietness within him,

He shall not save aught of that wherein he delighteth.

Job 20:17–20 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

17 He shall not see streams, rivers, brooks of honey and butter. 18 That which he laboured for shall he restore, and not swallow down; its restitution shall be according to the value, and he shall not rejoice therein. 19 For he hath oppressed, hath forsaken the poor; he hath violently taken away a house that he did not build. 20 Because he knew no rest in his craving, he shall save nought of what he most desired.

Job 20:17–20 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

17 He won’t be able to drink from the streams

or from the rivers of honey and buttermilk.

18 He will give back what he earned without enjoying it.

He will get no joy from the profits of his business

19 because he crushed and abandoned the poor.

He has taken by force a house that he didn’t build.

20 He will never know peace in his heart.

He will never allow anything he desires to escape ⸤his grasp⸥.

Job 20:17–20 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

17 He will not enjoy the streams,

the rivers flowing with honey and cream.

18 He must return the fruit of his labor without consuming it;

he doesn’t enjoy the profits from his trading.

19 For he oppressed and abandoned the poor;

he seized a house he did not build.

20 Because his appetite is never satisfied,

he does not let anything he desires escape.

Job 20:17–20 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

17 They will not look on the rivers,

the streams flowing with honey and curds.

18 They will give back the fruit of their toil,

and will not swallow it down;

from the profit of their trading

they will get no enjoyment.

19 For they have crushed and abandoned the poor,

they have seized a house that they did not build.

20 “They knew no quiet in their bellies;

in their greed they let nothing escape.

Job 20:17–20 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

17 He will not enjoy the streams,

the torrents of honey and curds.

18 Returning the products of his toil, he will not swallow;

according to the profit of his trade, he will not enjoy,

19 for he has oppressed; he has abandoned the poor;

he has seized a house but did not build it.

20 Because he has not known satisfaction in his stomach,

he lets nothing escape that he desires.

Job 20:17–20 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

17 They won’t enjoy streams that flow with honey.

They won’t enjoy rivers that flow with cream.

18 What they worked for they must give back

before they can eat it.

They won’t enjoy what they have earned.

19 They’ve crushed poor people and left them with nothing.

They’ve taken over houses they didn’t even build.

20 “No matter how much they have,

they always long for more.

But their treasure can’t save them.

Job 20:17–20 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

The rivers flowing with honey and curds.

And cannot swallow it;

As to the riches of his trading,

He cannot even enjoy them.

19 “For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor;

He has seized a house which he has not built.

20 Because he knew no quiet within him,

He does not retain anything he desires.
