Jeremiah 50:24–28

24 I set a trap for you, Babylon,

and you were caught before you knew it;

you were found and captured

because you opposed the Lord.

25 The Lord has opened his arsenal

and brought out the weapons of his wrath,

for the Sovereign Lord Almighty has work to do

in the land of the Babylonians.

26 Come against her from afar.

Break open her granaries;

pile her up like heaps of grain.

Completely destroy her

and leave her no remnant.

27 Kill all her young bulls;

let them go down to the slaughter!

Woe to them! For their day has come,

the time for them to be punished.

28 Listen to the fugitives and refugees from Babylon

declaring in Zion

how the Lord our God has taken vengeance,

vengeance for his temple.

24 I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon,

And thou wast not aware:

Thou art found, and also caught,

Because thou hast striven against the Lord.

25 The Lord hath opened his armoury,

And hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation:

For this is the work of the Lord God of hosts

In the land of the Chaldeans.

26 Come against her from the utmost border,

Open her storehouses:

Cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly:

Let nothing of her be left.

27 Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter:

Woe unto them! for their day is come,

The time of their visitation.

28 The voice of them that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon,

To declare in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God,

The vengeance of his temple.

24 Listen, Babylon, for I have set a trap for you.

You are caught, for you have fought against the Lord.

25 The Lord has opened his armory

and brought out weapons to vent his fury.

The terror that falls upon the Babylonians

will be the work of the Sovereign Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

26 Yes, come against her from distant lands.

Break open her granaries.

Crush her walls and houses into heaps of rubble.

Destroy her completely, and leave nothing!

27 Destroy even her young bulls—

it will be terrible for them, too!

Slaughter them all!

For Babylon’s day of reckoning has come.

28 Listen to the people who have escaped from Babylon,

as they tell in Jerusalem

how the Lord our God has taken vengeance

against those who destroyed his Temple.

24 You have indeed been trapped, O Babylon,

And you were not aware;

You have been found and also caught,

Because you have contended against the Lord.

25 The Lord has opened His armory,

And has brought out the weapons of His indignation;

For this is the work of the Lord God of hosts

In the land of the Chaldeans.

26 Come against her from the farthest border;

Open her storehouses;

Cast her up as heaps of ruins,

And destroy her utterly;

Let nothing of her be left.

27 Slay all her bulls,

Let them go down to the slaughter.

Woe to them!

For their day has come, the time of their punishment.

28 The voice of those who flee and escape from the land of Babylon

Declares in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God,

The vengeance of His temple.

24 Babylon, I set a trap for you,

and you were caught before you knew it.

You fought against the Lord,

so you were found and taken prisoner.

25 The Lord has opened up his storeroom

and brought out the weapons of his anger,

because the Lord God All-Powerful has work to do

in the land of the Babylonians.

26 Come against Babylon from far away.

Break open her storehouses of grain.

Pile up her dead bodies like heaps of grain.

Completely destroy Babylon

and do not leave anyone alive.

27 Kill all the young men in Babylon;

let them be killed like animals.

How terrible it will be for them, because the time has come for their defeat;

it is time for them to be punished.

28 Listen to the people running to escape the country of Babylon!

They are telling Jerusalem

how the Lord our God is punishing Babylon as it deserves

for destroying his Temple.

24 I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast striven against Jehovah. 25 Jehovah hath opened his armory, and hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation; for the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, hath a work to do in the land of the Chaldeans. 26 Come against her from the utmost border; open her store-houses; cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly; let nothing of her be left. 27 Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe unto them! for their day is come, the time of their visitation. 28 The voice of them that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of Jehovah our God, the vengeance of his temple.

24 I have laid a snare for thee, and thou, Babylon, art also taken, and thou wast not aware; thou art found, and also caught, for thou hast contended with Jehovah. 25 Jehovah hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation; for this is a work for the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, in the land of the Chaldeans. 26 Come ye against her from every quarter, open her storehouses; pile her up like sheaves, and destroy her utterly: let nothing of her be left. 27 Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe unto them! for their day is come, the time of their visitation. 28 The voice of them that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of Jehovah our God, the vengeance of his temple.

24 I will set traps for you, Babylon. 

You will be caught, but you won’t know it. 

You will be found and captured 

because you have opposed the Lord. 

25 The Lord will open his armory 

and bring out the weapons of his fury, 

because the Almighty Lord of Armies 

has a job to do in the land of the Babylonians. 

26 Attack them from a distance, 

open their storehouses, 

pile up their corpses like piles of grain, 

claim them for me by destroying them, 

and don’t leave anyone behind. 

27 Kill all their young bulls. 

Let them go to be slaughtered. 

How horrible it will be for them when their time has come, 

the time for them to be punished. 

28 Listen! Fugitives and refugees from Babylon 

are coming to Zion to tell about 

the vengeance of the Lord our God, the vengeance for his temple. 

24 Babylon, I laid a trap for you, and you were caught,

but you did not even know it.

You were found and captured

because you fought against the Lord.

25 The Lord opened His armory

and brought out His weapons of wrath,

because it is a task of the Lord God of Hosts

in the land of the Chaldeans.

26 Come against her from the most distant places.

Open her granaries;

pile her up like mounds of grain

and completely destroy her.

Leave her no survivors.

27 Put all her young bulls to the sword;

let them go down to the slaughter.

Woe to them, because their day has come,

the time of their punishment.

28 “There is a voice of fugitives and those who escape

from the land of Babylon

announcing in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God,

the vengeance for His temple.

you were discovered and seized

because you challenged the Lord.

25 The Lord has opened his armory

and brought out the weapons of his wrath,

for the Lord God of hosts has a task

in the land of the Chaldeans.

26 Come against her from every quarter;

open her granaries;

pile her up like heaps of grain, and destroy her utterly;

let nothing be left of her.

27 Kill all her bulls;

let them go down to the slaughter.

Alas for them, their day has come,

the time of their punishment!

28 Listen! Fugitives and refugees from the land of Babylon are coming to declare in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God, vengeance for his temple.

24 I laid a bird snare for you, and you were caught, O Babylon.

But you yourself did not know.

You were discovered and seized,

because with Yahweh you measured yourself.

25 Yahweh has opened his armory,

and he has brought out the weapons of his wrath,

for it is a work for my Lord Yahweh of hosts

in the land of the Chaldeans.

26 Come against her from the end,

open her granaries.

Pile her up like heaps and destroy her.

Let there be no remnant for her.

27 Massacre all her bulls,

let them go down to the slaughtering.

Woe to them, for their day has come,

the time of their punishment.

28 There is the sound of fugitives and survivors

from the land of Babylon,

to declare in Zion the vengeance of Yahweh our God,

the vengeance for his temple.

24 Babylonia, I set a trap for you.

And you were caught before you knew it.

You were found and captured.

That is because you opposed me.

25 I have opened up my storeroom.

I have brought out the weapons I use when I am angry.

I am the Lord and King who rules over all.

I have work to do in the land of the Babylonians.

26 So come against it from far away.

Open up its storerooms.

Stack everything up like piles of grain.

Completely destroy that country.

Do not leave anyone alive there.

27 Kill all of its people.

Let them die in battle.

How terrible it will be for them!

Their time to be judged has come.

Now they will be punished.

28 Listen to those who have escaped.

Listen to those who have returned from Babylonia.

They are announcing in Zion

how I have paid Babylonia back.

I have paid it back for destroying my temple.

While you yourself were not aware;

You have been found and also seized

Because you have engaged in conflict with the Lord.”

25 The Lord has opened His armory

And has brought forth the weapons of His indignation,

For it is a work of the Lord God of hosts

In the land of the Chaldeans.

26 Come to her from the farthest border;

Open up her barns,

Pile her up like heaps

And utterly destroy her,

Let nothing be left to her.

27 Put all her young bulls to the sword;

Let them go down to the slaughter!

Woe be upon them, for their day has come,

The time of their punishment.

28 There is a sound of fugitives and refugees from the land of Babylon,

To declare in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God,

Vengeance for His temple.
